Teenage Matthews excels on Celtic right

1021

The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager.  You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night.  All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.

Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection.  At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence.  It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

I’m sure that could be arranged.

Anyway did you know that he is Zbyszek to us because that is easier for us over here to pronounce than his own name is?

if you’re there you had me nearly pee peeing myself, referring to the leader of a well known scottish institution as Mr. Vague Shite

I thought Heally tackle was among worst I have seen in a professional game. Takes some doing to catch an opponent ABOVE the knee….

It wasn’t even disguised in the slightest it was just an assault.

  4. St Stivs, glad the ticket went to a good home, the original is lost in the post..Thanks to Big Paddy from Derry no1 Csc who went to the ticket office and used his charm to get another printed off..Only the second time this season its been used.

  5. Now for the back 4

    My first choice would be

    Matthews Rogne Mulgrew Izzy

but we could also go with

    Ludwig K.Wilson Mastorovic M.Wilson

    or even

    Cha Fraser Loovens Blackman

    Have I missed anybody?

  6. Mr Z

Interesting comments from him, l understand what you are saying about him but Jelovic will score goals,he is going through a dip but he will come out of it.

Our dear friend Pablophanque taught me the pronunciation.

I think it has stayed with me but Zbyszek might not agree:o)

  8. For a fraction of the cost of signing jellyfish, transfer fee and wages, boydychenko would have scored just as many goals.

Like boyd many of jellyfish’s goals come from the penalty spot.

I still think McCulloch’s assault was more likely to cause serious injury, as Beram was almost stationary, whereas James F was really motoring and so was able to absorb some of the impact. I thought McCulloch’s was undisputably a red card and Healy’s a probable red. They are both a bad piece of work.

  10. We should not sign to many.

There are plenty of of the under19’s deserving a chance

Wee should offload Loovens,Kî,Ragmuesson and send back El Khadourriin this window.

Thought the boy Black an would have some playing time but if it’s not a match fitness issue then the signs are not good for him.

    Hope we keep Commons

BTW, at the final whistle last night big Roughie in the press box giving it the big thumbs up and air-punching to the departing crowd!

    Fair comment.

We have a lot of good young midfielders. And others like Matthews and Izzy who might play there in the future.

Just feel if we can give Ki playing time his value would really rise. Also think he is beginning to ‘get’ playing in SPL.

Overall financially I think we have a strategy of buying young potential then selling them on. There will be a ceiling price of roughly £10m because of the league we play in. Right now we’d be lucky to get £4m for Ki but in a couple of years maybe we could get 10. So that’s a reason I’d like to see him stay, apart from I think he’s a great player.

Having said the above the one player I really hope we can keep for a good few years, and who could smash my ‘ceiling’ price is Wanyama.

  16. I actually think it would be best if Jelavic stays with them. He looks fed up, and his form has dipped immensely. Take away penalties and what has he done in the last few months?

£7million for him (as per Phil’s tweet) is ridiculous – he arrived from Austria a 4.4million pound player. He has done reasonably well in the SPL (but terribly when faced with CL or EL adversaries).

What exactly has made his value shoot up 50%?

What RFC needs is a replacement for Naismith and a poacher. In Novo and Boyd they could get both for only a little outlay. I’d prefer them to be stuck with the grumpy Croat…

  17. Top Corner – Thanks my friend!

Hadn’t heard of the loan but think I’d prefer the dosh from WBA if it’s true.

What is going on? Exclusive news on Russian website.

Пять минут до окончания основного времени матча. Что сказать? Если “Рейнджерс” сравняет счёт, то это будет чудо. “Селтик”, всё-таки, играет получше.

    Zbyszek,

You are almost right. My Russian Ukrainian government (AKA my wife) says it is this:

“It’s 5 minutes before the end of normal time. What can I say? If “Rangers” draw, then this score will be a miracle. “Celtic”, after all, are better”.

  19. Our current squad is probably worth about £40m combined, but in 5 years I’d say it would be well over £100m. How many are with us then is a different story!

  20. The healy tackle was becoming of a pub player.

A complete embarrassment to the club and his team mates. If it were a Celtic player (and it never would ) I would be shouting for him to be publicly fined

  21. SwanseaBhoy and others.

Back during the Miners strike I had a Polish mate called Zbyszek Wojic. Unfortunately I can’t remember how to pronounce his name ‘cos we called him Bish.

    it was much appreciated thanks.

i was up at Celtic Park lunchtime yesterday, nephews football training at Toryglen got cancelled due to adverse weather, absolutely chucking it down with hail hail stones. , so i says to him “mon we will go over to Parkhead and see if we can see anyone”, he looked at me as if i was daft.

over at the park the superstore and the main door were packed out with Irish supporters, i am guessing busses that were over on early ferries. last night i got talking to some bhoys from the ballymena shamrock outside the 5 ways pub as well (while trying to link up with VMHAN , but thats another story), and then at halftime some guys from Felons Brother Walfrid club, you bhoys do us proud the efforts to get to the games, in all weathers, with middle of the night starts, its a benchmark of what supporting means.

    Swanseabhoy,

was following your posts yesterday on the same subject, but sure your every bit as supportive, thats a long drive yesterday, and on top of the m74 must have been a wee bit challenging on the road up, bet it was magic, magic going back home last night with our new celtic dragon taking the honours.

Your wife is right. That is perfect translation, word to word.

I did not expect somebody was going to check my translation :-)

My intention was to give sense of the Russian report with “miracle” word.

Now I must put my head in shame. Who would believe now that Russian is my first foreign language :-)

  25. Healy is a has-been. That tackle was the only thing left in his armoury to ingratiate himself to the filth support. Collum has consistently been refereeing them leniently and should be embarrassed that they ended with 11 players. I say should be. He won’t be. He is a coward of the highest order and has proven himself so over a string of games now.

The MIB factor will be in evidence more in the remaining 5 months of this season than it has ever been before, and that my fellow hoops fans is the biggest problem we will have in securing the title. The MIB influence has appeared less evident until now. Have they suddenly become more honest and fair? Have they hell. Our laxity that allowed a 15 point gap to develop accounts for the fact there has been less controversy in the initial part of this season, they thought it was over, but make no mistake, the cheating will be back BIG time, and will restart now.

We need to be 10-12pts better than them in most seasons to secure even a narrow title win. With half a season still to go, we will need to be at least that amount better in the second half, or it will be on a knife edge.

Incidentally, Neil Lennon was pure class last night. Before, during and after the game, he personified dignity and class in his behaviour and comments. Remarkable for a man who, more than any other man, had reason to celebrate a crucial result, and had reason to fire verbal volleys at his detractors.

This feels like a really special piece of Celtic history is being written. Winning the title in ’88 and ’98 were more crucial for the club, but this one would give me most joy and satisfaction, considering what Neil has been put through.

I’m off to listen to Clyde – I never do but I can’t wait to hear them hurting.
