Teenage Matthews excels on Celtic right

1021

The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager.  You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night.  All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.

Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection.  At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence.  It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

    What did he do ,you got a link.I thought skoosh played a blinder by not taking the bait last night under great provocation

    Always happy to correspond with you.

    January is notoriously a poor time for transfer dealings. Very few quality players

    move in that window. Simply down to personal/family reasons I guess.

    We don’t need to spend big nor should we. Still think the current

    squad is well capable of bringing the league home.

    Probably been mentioned but what is the difference between Healy’s yellow last night and James Forrest’s red card v Hamilton in a January, a decision by, oh yes, Mr Willie Collum.

    Collum showed weakness right from the start by not delaying the kick off to clear up all the Xmas wrapping paper.

    His decision to blow for half time when he did was a total joke.

    Spineless.

    _______________________

    That says it all as far as Collum is concerned. Another example of Dallas’s poisoned legacy.

    Collum’s golden rule is ‘No game-changing decisions against rfc’. That keeps most of the public and all of the press on-side.

    Mind you, you can still be off-side even when you’re on-side. Ask Gary Hooper.

  4. Cant seem to undestand why celtic fans keep on these phone ins to the likes of keevins and darl king……are you unable to follow and understand the rules of the sport…or maybe kinda loansome like…why not ask the the guy next to you his views after all most folk take an interest from 5 yrs onwards…or maybe take on another sport instead of coming on here ,talking all this p… about these 2 ars ………..s …….. i personally dont think theres anything to learn from these 2 twats…..so give us all a break

  5. Fritzsong- As EN said earlier, Healy’s challenge was far worse than Jamsie’s red v Hamilton in January, but as you correctly say, Willie Collum knows what he has to do to ensure a quiet life and career advancement.

    Re the Hooper offside, very poor indeed by the lino, another bottler.

    I didn’t see it at the game but when I arrived home I watched the recording of the game and I saw it straight away as did my son. They’re unbelievable – beyond the Pale. A true reflection of how their manager wants them to play.

    Good to hear from you, hope alls well.

    Im saying this but will still be here January 31st hoping for a bit of magic being pulled out a bag, its tradition now…

  8. Collum’s blowing of the hal;f time whistle exactly on 45 minutes and just as Georgeos was breaking free for a one-on-one, was unbelievable.

    That was one of my old man’s favourite sayings. Not specifically about Fifers just in general and more often or not about me as a teenager.

    Players who are defying my previous assessments:

    Brown and Fraser F

    Brown could become a legend captain if he keeps up performances like last nights.

    Fraser is twice the keeper since the Hearts penalty save.

    They are not alone in turning round their form… Well done Bhoys!

  11. Oh and the huns excelled themselves with their ,”Celtic boys Club” chant.

    If that’s not as filthily offensive as you can get, then I’m a Dutchman.

  12. Goldstar10

    When BFDJ left Clyde, I thought they would struggle to find someone who could match him for being an inarticulate, buffoon, and pandering to the Rankers fans.

    I have to take my hat off to them in achieving what I believed to be impossible.

  13. Goldstar. Watched it all live. Was told today I was quite a floorshow. Holidaymakers don’t know the huddle apparently, although I managed to get it going in our bar. Good Luck with the punt on Joe. Have the semi final tickets been issued yet? Get the gazebo team together, pre, during & post match!

    Sorry, no link but if u have taped the game just watch the first few minutes before the teams emerge.

    Also on the same clip you see Mccoist standing at the door of the away changing room shaking each player by the hand as they emerge.To me this is typical of Mccoist, trying to be everyone’s mate.He may be an intimidating figure behind close doors (although i doubt it),but his cheeky chappy Question of Sport style just doesn’t fit with my idea of how a respected football manager should behave.

    I hope he lasts the season.With him in charge, we have nothing to fear.

  15. Well in there, Seanbhoy- It’s going to be a big ask to get Hugh to admit that the “national treasure” that is Ally McCoist now has a worse record than Paul le Guen.

  16. Amazing strike from ex Celt Graham Carey in Paisley last night.

    Just shows the depth of talent that has been produced by Celtic youth development over the last ten years even if many of them have eventually moved on.

    Still feel Carey will get a big move at some point.

    Yes but not as long as it took him to acknowledge that Ragers have the worst performance record in Europe whilst harping on about ours.

    Admire your strength in trying to get a balanced view.

    Now their goal has been clarified as definite and Hooper’s offside never happened along with their thuggish assaults.

    Glad I live in USA and don’t have to deal with the ingrained bigotry of most of the Scottish population that leads to rampant dishonesty.

  22. fan-a-tic,

    I doesn’t bother me at all if the MSM and the Huns manufacture a consensus that they were somehow “robbed” last night.

    In fact, I welcome any delusion they create that prevents them from seeing the abyss that faces RFC on and off the park in 2012.

  23. Seen the photos of the damaged to the toilet roof at CP from last night. We should have installed bars on the ceilings in those bogs years ago, as we know fine well these folk need handgrips to stay upright. The sheer weight of them going to unload their underwear at the same time must have pulled it down – not their fault.

    Get it sorted Celtic.

  24. Just watched the second half. Good feed. A few points:

    a) We were strongly the better side ;

    b) Charlie dived;

    c) Healy should have been red carded;

    d) Jelavic is not a particularly good player;

    e) McGreggor ” ” ” ” `keeper;

    f) Our players work just as hard for our “cause” as theirs do for theirs;

    g) Utilise the quality of our squad. No one else in the SPL emulate us in that area;

    h) GB inspired crowd, fantastic

    i) 3 points against Dunfermline, hopefully, then a bumper crowd against DU for the next Home game bringing back the thunder.

  28. The one minus from last night was not putting the ball in the net more.

    We are a young team so still a little cautious.

    Feel our centre miss need to gamble a little and get into opponents box more.

    If we had done that last night the score would have been a fairer reflection.

  29. Enrico Dandolo nicked my Crusade on

    Fantastic to see we’re at the top of the table. Well done Celtic and Lenny.

    Got to keep the momentum going.

    Just read on Phil Mac’s site that STV have linked up commercially with rangers. VERY DODGY.

    Every time their news covers a negative story about Celtic, the Celtic lawyers should be down on them like a tonne of bricks.

    Conflict of interest. The press complaints commission will be well use to dealing with complaints by Celtic fans, but it’s going to go into hyper drive from here on in. :)

    Their colours are well and truly nailed to the mast now.
