Textbook away performance, Brand Britain

3353

I was a bit annoyed at BT’s halftime analysis which suggested Celtic were more than fortunate to be level at that stage.  Salzburg had just enjoyed their best 15 minute period of the game, but, from beginning to end, Celtic’s performance was a textbook lesson on how to play away from home in Europe.  We took our chances and drew our defensive line well in front of our box.  This is how it’s done.

Were you as comfortable as I was during the final minutes last night?

Having watched the performance against Aberdeen on Saturday, when we bossed the game but were penned back when, with two debutants and a returning Scott Brown in the team, the legs faded in the last 30 minutes, I expected the same to happen last night.

Instead, Scott’s goal arrived on 60 minutes, which infused Celtic legs with adrenalin.  This was the crucial moment of the game.  We conceded that fabulous goal from Soriano during the final 30 minutes, but this was also our best period of the game.  Wakaso (who is a player, b.t.w.) ran himself into the ground – literally.  Brown, Johansen, Izaguirre and Ambrose all covered enormous areas of the pitch.

Instead of going through turmoil in the closing stages, we saw Salzburg drop deep, acknowledging the clear danger they could concede for a third time.

The one obvious question is, how did we pick Craig Gordon up for free?

Brand Britain

Brand Britain is damaged. Last night’s vote was a high water mark for independence, so far, but the demographic breakdown suggests support for change is strongest among the young. If the three major UK parties have any intention of maintaining the status quo they need to indulge in considerable Nation Building.

The football business in Britain is in the hands of two closed-shop cartels, one in England and Wales [controlled by the affluent], and one in Scotland [controlled by the unambitious]. This arrangement has disenfranchised Scottish football and drains our economy of tens of millions of pounds per year. It is a clear manifestation of second class status for Scotland and our economy, which is unacceptable for anyone who considers the UK to be one nation.

Politicians with an interest in pushing the buttons of the people, should use this time to call this arrangement out for what it is.

I don’t see any difference between what Ronny Delia said and what The Great Desmondo said.

I think it’s time we stop kidding ourselves about this. The Club want some kind of hun mob around.

  2. AR I think your decision to move to oz was vindicated a long time ago (as was my brothers). The scenes in Geoerge square were disgusting. I am still horrified by the saltire being taken off the young girl by the hun thugs. It’s reminiscient of a facist state in every sense of the words and actions. Scotland needs to firstly admit it’s problem and then tackle it. It needs to stop hiding behind the ones as bad as the other tag line. But those in power and our institutions are inherently sectarian.

A few days ago I posted some figures I got from police scotland showing that catholics are underrepresented in the police force. It got a bit caught up in the referendum stuff but if you add this with the OB act where the police decide what’s sectarian then you can see we have a major problem.

Unfortunately I fear has been ” briefed” . Imagine those that run our club had an agenda that takes a different path from the majority of those who pay their wages.

“A permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace.” (Ian Archer). The disgrace box got well and truly ticked in and aroung George Sq.

  5. As for ronny well I guess he doesn’t know any better. But it should by now be clear to all of you that celtic want it all back. It’s good for business and that’s that. The club got an easy run with the accounts because of the referendum but again they are hiding the true financial position.

As regards the All-Ireland final, I just can’t see the Kingdom matching the size, intensity and discipline of Tir Chonnaill’s finest and I fully expect Jimmy McGuinness to become Celtic’s first trophy winner this season.

Across in the north of Britain, I hope to see a dominant Hoops performance with Guidetti scoring. Alternatively, I want to some evidence of Ronny having the ability to make decent substitutions- I really wonder what JC’s roll is when we, the untrained and unwashed, can all see the folly of RD’s choices in recent games.

Barcelona play away tonight to Levante with Madrid’s 8 goal demolition of La Coruna the result of the weekend thus far. However, Mrs Dexter is looking forward to Downton Abbey’s return tonight… SkyPlus is a Godsend.

Good luck to Jimmy and the boys….

Good luck to Ronny and the Bhoys…

Good luck to Lionel and La Blaugrana…

I made the same points about sectarianism as yourself earlier this morning. It’s simply ingrained in far too many people in Scotland. Catholics/Irish like Neil Lennon bring it on themselves, to their mind.

Scotland has to face in to this mindset before we can begin to hope for a real future for all its people.

My hope is that Celtic Park today and in the future sees a proliferation of the Saltire waved with pride.

I voted with my feet the best part of 15 years ago. Many reasons —-this was one of them .

North Kelvinside . Around 7am on a Saturday morning . Woken by the sound of a drum and people shouting in the street . Get out of bed and check it out . OO band and @ 30 twats( beer tins to hand ) in full regalia .4 polis . Put some clothes on , go down the stairs and ask the polis whats going on and why ? Answer was that a guy who lived in the street had been elevated in his ludge and this was his tribute. Complaining about the absurdity of the situation led a polis to tell me to shut it or be arrested.Wake people up at 7am-no problem , play loud music at 7am -no problem . Drunk and disorderly at 7am -no problem . Complain about that and face arrest –BIg Problem .

Scotland missed a big chance when the OO marched through Edinburgh before Referendum Day . . A mass turnout on the streets of the route to literally and metaphorically turn their backs on that filth would have been a very strong statement .

  16. Parkheadcumsalford 9.05,

The COS were very much to blame for sectarianism in Scotland.

But to be fair to them, they publicly apologised for doing so over 10 years ago at the General Assembly.

They’re back whether the club want them or not, whether the fans want them or not, the SFA, The SPFL including us rubber-stamped their return and that’s that as they say and no amount of biiiiaaaatching on here is going to change that.

Unfortunately for them though they will probably go bust again before the Pie Monster gets a chance to finish his apprenticeship in the top division.
