That. Was. Incredible.

1667

Just a short blog today.  I found the notes for my speech this morning.  A lot of positive things should have been said about Tony (one of the nicest CQN’ers I’ve met, and I’ve lots of great CQN’ers), Jim (more committed to the welfare of others than he would be comfortable you knowing), and David (combines the cynicism you can only get by spending 30 years in the publishing business with an often incomprehensive enthusiasm and positivity).  Three people who make things happen.

The CQN Golf Committee have organised nine incredibly taxing CQN Charity Opens, which seems to require an addition to stress, as they clearly thrive on it.

I got my timing all wrong when I set the whisky auction to end at noon yesterday as I was otherwise engaged until late afternoon, when things were getting a bit hectic, but with minutes to go, E (abbreviated) stepped in with what was an opening and winning bid of £550.  The money is already with Mary’s Meals.  My thanks to E and to A Ceiler Gonof Rust, who donated the prize.

None of us had any experience at organising this kind of event.  You think all you need is a mic. and a few speakers!  I asked Phil Agnew if he would do the raffle and auction for us.  He ended up supplying what would have been thousands of pounds worth of consultancy, which saw us over the line, wouldn’t take a penny for his trouble and provided a print signed by Henrik Larsson from his daughter.  They are a family with a long-established link to Mary’s Meals.

The quality and sheer volume of donations for auction and raffle overwhelmed us. We made a call that it was probably wise to limit the number of items we put up last night, and hold some for a later date – all will go towards Mary’s Meals. Thanks to everyone who came forward.

These are just the thanks I didn’t get to last night, more to come.

I’ve no idea how much money you raised yet but I am sure the cash is in to build the second and third school kitchens.  Within weeks your buildings will be feeding circa 2700 of the poorest children on the planet.  That.  Is.  Incredible!  Well played CQN.

I’m not going to pester you to read the Magazine or buy the Seville book today, but the MyDonate like to Marys’ Meals……

  5. CRC, Jobo and CQN friends. It seems that I missed a special night last night? But it could not have been anything else? Because – this is very special and unique online community, where great friendships have been formed and bonded and so many good deeds have been done by many many good people.

I am proud to be a part of it (albeit a quiet lurker by the Red Sea :) ), proud to have been a Bucketteer and proud when I see so many people doing so much good.

CRC – as it was based on the CQN ten years, I can’t believe big Sutty was in the team ahead of Hooper. Big man was a legend in the period before the CQteN, but the wee man’s scoring stats were tremendous.

Also had THG ahead of FF, both great shot stoppers, but Fraser had kicking issues and still has a problem commanding his area.

I was of the understanding that the XI had to be chosen based on their contributions to Celtic during the 10 years of CQN.

Thanks to paul67 and his able team for what was a memorable night who’d habe thought that 10 years ago? Truely remarkable as MON would say. Had great craic at docs table and I just wanted to say what a great example as a celtic captain Tom Boyd is, nothing was too much trouble for him in terms of autographs, pictures etc and he was great company. Nice to see that the Celtic Captain who stopped TIAR has such a connect and rapport with the fans.

Interesting decision on the dream team,as democratically decided.

Those who made the line-up richly deserve to be there, based upon their contribution to Celtic during their stay with us. Legends one and all-with the possible exception of Virgil, who has been chosen,IMO,on potential as he has only been with us a few months.

Those who chose to adhere to the rules of the competition were outvoted by those who didn’t. Contribution to Celtic post-2004 was minimal from some, but that’s by-the-by.

The team chosen,I would fancy to beat most teams they could come up against. We have been blessed.

Well done to all who voted, and to yourself and DOC for the time you took putting it all together.

Then I come home to see that Ireland win the 6 nations, Villa beat the london scum, and the bookie is offering me a very decent cash out, but I reckon I will hold the nerve, after all it will only be a euro loss, or a potential 2k gain, sometimes these pre season bets do come in, and I have another as well that is bothering mr bookie, problem is for me, is that I need Barca to win La Liga, and they are no looking too good presently.

Said he was a Celtic fan? Professional or not,a Celtic fan would have marginally misjudged each shot.
