That’s all folks!

The defence has seen most additions. Jozo Simunovic, Saidy Janko and Dedryck Boyata arrived, with Tyler Blackett on loan from Manchester United. Belgian, Logan Bailly, came in as our backup keeper after a decent career in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.

Two attacking midfielders were signed: Scott Allan, who has made a couple of cameo appearances, and Ryan Christie, who will further gestate in Inverness until the end of the season.

Nadir Ciftci was the manager’s primary striking target, and although he arrived early in the window, his start has been hampered by a six game domestic ban, while the Champions League qualifiers arrived too early for him. A lot of store is being placed on his and Leigh Griffiths’ shoulders.

Will they be stronger than the Griffiths, Scepovic, Guidetti offering of last season? Will they be good enough for the challenge ahead? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen (and opposed to send me inappropriately emotional messages).

I read lots of comment about Steven Fletcher or and Michu potentially coming to Celtic over the last few days. They were players who Celtic enquired about earlier in the window but neither was interested in coming to Scotland. They are in the league they want to play in, we were not remotely on their radar.

Oh, and the van Dijk deal was for £13m, not the £11.5m reported earlier. Think we might have some Fraser/Victor reflected value in this deal.

That’s all folks!

    67Haven,

I got a text tonight saying there was total panic at Ibrox today. Not sure how close to the info this lad was, and I’m by no means a company law expert myself, but if Our Hero has recorded every conversation he had with Big Hands, and the SFA, and the SPL, and – who knows? – Minty himself… then I’m not sure there’s enough jelly and ice cream in the world…

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I would suggest the panic is as a result of the fact that they have been paying £240k per month rental to the owner of the deeds ……and if that is green or Whyte, then the deeds go to BDO ….. this is now becoming very interesting …..HAIL HAIL and keep us informed, me Bhoy….

Meanwhile we are placing our entire striking burden on the shoulders of Griffiths. He need his load lightened not increased…..

  5. From Official Site

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce that it has signed Jozo Simunovic, aged 21, from Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb on a five-year contract.

Jozo is a highly rated young player and is currently part of the Croatian U21 national team and he joins hot on the heels of Ryan Christie who agreed a move from Inverness Caledonian Thistle earlier this evening.

Jozo said: “I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic. I know what a huge club I am joining, one of the biggest in Europe, and I know about its history and its great supporters.

“I can’t wait to get started and join up with my new team and begin my career at Celtic.

“I am looking forward to this move very much, I am desperate to get to Scotland and play at the famous Celtic Park.

“I know we have a lot to play for this season and there are many exciting times ahead, this is my reason for joining Celtic.

“I want to win things in my career and I think I can do this at Celtic. All I can promise the supporters is that I will be giving everything I have in every game to win and bring some good moments to our fans.”

Celtic Manager Ronny Deila added: “We are so pleased that Jozo is joining us at Celtic and I am sure he will be a great addition to our squad.

“He is a very talented young player and good on the ball, but he will also give us strength and stability in defence. I am sure he will be a success for us.

“I believe what we have done in the summer has given us a squad with real depth for the season ahead.

“We already had a strong squad going into the summer period and we have now signed eight quality players in this transfer window.

“Again we will once again look to strengthen in the January transfer window.

“We have the resources available to do this and this is something we always aim to do, ensuring that we are as well equipped as possible to bring our supporters as much success as we possibly can.”

5 year deal – take it he’s not going to do a VVD and leave after 2 then

  6. Hamiltontim

I hope the internet hasn’t influenced you, remember the worst offending negativists on CQN aren’t Celtic supporters in any true meaningful sense.

The EL is an inconvenience, it’s damage limitation, and a few bob for Celtic, we cannot spend £ for £ on incoming, and you only need to look round CP to see why.

We are already joint outsiders with Molde for the group? Any points we get will be bonus points.

European football for Celtic, is a stolen dream, stolen many years ago.

The quality of striker we require for Europe isn’t available, that’s why we took

a punt on Ciftci, early doors, and yes it’s much more complex ,than labelling or drama queening.

Simunovic is our biggest buy for years, and sadly Paul67 is, spot on.

Our forthcoming trip to Pitoddrie is more important.

    Hail Hail

  7. I watch the U20s more than the 1st team so I’ve seen Scepovic often. Couldn’t see him making it here. Not to say he wont succeed elsewhere just not here. Great to admit that and put him back in his comfort zone on loan. If he succeeds, we sell and look elsewhere. That does not say he’s a dud or we failed. its where we are. We have to gamble with guys off the radar. I hope he succeeds and stays there.

Also need to give credit to Steve Frail who has done a great job with the U20s and is now leaving. Sense there is a backstory there somehow but the main thing is to recognise his motivational and tactical skills and his fantastic contribution to the Club. Thanks Steve. You nurtured and developed some great talent and deserved more recognition. I will never understand why so few fans follow the U20s.

  8. Not posted in ages,

A few observations, coming out every window stronger, i think not.

Now trumping Ciftci as the number one target………..geezo……..what can you add to that?

£8 mil spent…..on more projects/gambles……wheres the experience Ronny was bleating about?

We used to dream of getting out the group of the champions league, now we dream of just qualifying!

A very hard round of fixtures approaching after the international break, these bhoys need to gel quickly, especially at the back!

same old same old……wonder how Peter’s remuneration will be spun this year?

  9. Oh and another thing, the Club wanted shot of Stokes, he didn’t go, something to do with not getting another Striker….bet your Boots it is.

Just watch the amount of Games he starts!

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  10. “Looking forward to you justifying the £8M nett spend”

    Chairbhoy,

    Where did p67 say this?

  11. We are all a wee bit premature about judging the quality of our signings.

Will we win the SPFL and go into the CL Qualifiers next year?

If anyone thinks otherwise it’s time to take up knitting or follow amateur football.

Yes we may face Aberdeen with an unfamiliar centre back pairing. BTW I pointed this out last week.

    Prescient or what?

As we saw recently against Dundee United we can afford to rest a number of first team players and still collect 3 points.

So calm down and support the newcomers before excoriating them.

There will be time enough for that.

    Take care pal.

  13. embramike says "the Huns are Deid" on

Any out of contract player signed after 11pm tonight will not be registered in time to play in Europe.

  14. No striker.

Best player sold for £13M replaced by projects of one form or another. The Celtic team is now one big project incl Lawwells puppet Ronny.

There is only one winner in this summers transfer window….Lawwell. He is smiling all the way to the bank knowing he has secured his next bonus with the minimum of fuss. The first few thousand season tickets need to be set aside for Lawwells annual compensation.

Lawwells repeated downsizing will see Celtic toil this season. The teams in the EL will expose the damage Lawwell has days with the risk of a ripple thru to the domestic dross.

Why was the VIrgil money not invested in advance of CL qualifiers and the £30M prize secured.

Lawwell had no intention of spending it. He played the fans like fools. To rub salt in the wounds CFC Level 7 —- spins it as a great transfer window with an £8M spend. Nurse !!!

  15. scepovic looked far more a player in our champions last game last season than cifti has so far.

its all a crock of shit

  16. West End of East End on

Would be interesting to go back and read the blog from the last couple of years when we signed Virgil (unknown) and Deneyer (Man Ceteh reserve) I think you’ll find that people were shouting for us to sign that Turkish guy from Dundee Utd (who’s now shite before playing a league game) or ex dundee Utd player Jonny Russell.

Scepovic has been slated as a donkey on here many times and the board were slated for signing him, now he is unsellable. Oh and we’re all idiots who go to watch Celtic these days, whilst the smart arses watch on their Android boxes telling us we’re all mugs, racists and bigots who can’t wait for the hun to come back…

  17. Fred quimby maybe we will get kris Boyd in eh? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah

And did Ronny really say this

“I believe what we have done in the summer has given us a squad with real depth for the season ahead.”

OH DEAR OH DEAR OH DEAR.

  18. Lol …

All through my somewhat eventful day I’ve been logging on and off waiting for the punchline moment. I never expected it to be in the headline!

Oh the joys. The respect in which we’re all held, summed up in a mere three words, and I can even hear the Loony Tunes music as our accompaniment.

And that line about Ronny’s first choice signing target being Ciftci … hahaha! Pure comedy gold. Or at least I hope that it is, because otherwise the manager is a dangerous fantasist I don’t want near Celtic Park.

With that line – if it’s true, of course, and not a piece of savage, undisguised mockery like the headline – I’m all turned around on Deila.

Get yer coat, son, and beat it because that reeks like the worst lager and curry fart ever cut and allowed to fill a room of drunken party-goers.

And to follow it up with how we hazed Southampton … oh my sides are splitting here, they really are. Net spend: zero. Quality added to the side: debateable.

Now where do people sign up for that £66 three game package?

Eight signings this window guys! Count ’em; eight!

    What a hoot.

    Another year in Paradise, eah?

  20. Lennybhoy,

I heard something very similar from a mate who gets a few bits and bobs from a first team member.

Can the new kid speak English?

And how will he cope with the ‘salt n sass’ dialect favoured by Le Griff and Broonie.

And all joking aside. I’m not joking.

And finally. Loved (no I didn’t !) post on earlier blog that sought to attribute the blame for malmo’s 95th goal to boyatta. You’re wasted (perhaps!) dude, you should be writing the script for Miss Marple!

    Any thoughts?

  26. Yay, we’re the headling breaking news on Sky Sports news. Jozo signs.

Roon yeez, assorted lurking Huns. It’s all about the Celtic…

    So what we got?:

Simunovic – no idea, but it’s interesting we chose to blow a wedge on a big defender rather than on a project striker…

Ciftci – May approach some kind of sparkle when he takes off his diving boots… Otherwise he’ll be up for the ‘Tony Cascarino Play-alike’ award. Another name on Stefan Scepovic’s ‘Why the F### Couldn’t I Get A Game Ahead Of These Guys’ list.

Christie – Kid looked lively last season, but can he step it up and make an impact for Celtic when he arrives?

Baily – no idea, but always useful to have a solid keeper in reserve.

Janko – Pedigree says a no-brainer signing; high hopes for this lad.

Boyata – Shaky? Dynamic? Bombscare? Goal-getting centre -half? All of these. fingers crossed he settles to the positive 2.

Allan – Born a Hun, saved form the Dark Side by Obi wan Kenobi, delivered to Ronny Deila by Han Solo on the Millenium Falcon to the seething angst of Jabba. by his good feet and silky touch, looks to have the Force – whether it’s strong in him, know by his performances this season we will…

Blackett – Another pedigree youth, another no-brainer loan for us.

My gripe – playing with a lone striker has got us… Nowhere. And Scepovic bundled off to La Liga. Looks like another season of reliance on the runaround forever tactic. Remember the night we reverted to 4-4-2 last season.? Pumped 4 past Killie (Or Motherwell? I forget) in 20 minutes from 1 down. Enshrine that golden 20 minutes; we may never see its like again…

Paul- are you serious mate? Is Ciftci better than Guidetti??

Your article makes no mention of either fact that we have not actually spent a dime in this window (again) nor that we let Scepovic go without another striker coming in.

We are now a small european club. A feeder club for mid table English teams. The simple fact I am concerned about the loss of Scepovic says it all about where we are at.

I think when PL talked to RD about a striker, RD wasn’t too pleased at the thought of a player who would picket the team so said no thanks. At least that’s how PL translated ‘striker’ into Norwegian. Cunning trickster that he is!

  29. I think it really is time for a total change at CP.

Sadly, there will be a lot of Celtic supporters scunnered tonight.

The PLC are treating the supporters with contempt…Do not be surprised if the supporters start to let PL know exactly what they think of him.
