Nadir Ciftci was the manager’s primary striking target, and although he arrived early in the window, his start has been hampered by a six game domestic ban, while the Champions League qualifiers arrived too early for him. A lot of store is being placed on his and Leigh Griffiths’ shoulders.
Will they be stronger than the Griffiths, Scepovic, Guidetti offering of last season? Will they be good enough for the challenge ahead? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen (and opposed to send me inappropriately emotional messages).
I read lots of comment about Steven Fletcher or and Michu potentially coming to Celtic over the last few days. They were players who Celtic enquired about earlier in the window but neither was interested in coming to Scotland. They are in the league they want to play in, we were not remotely on their radar.
Oh, and the van Dijk deal was for £13m, not the £11.5m reported earlier. Think we might have some Fraser/Victor reflected value in this deal.

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce that it has signed Jozo Simunovic, aged 21, from Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb on a five-year contract.
Jozo is a highly rated young player and is currently part of the Croatian U21 national team and he joins hot on the heels of Ryan Christie who agreed a move from Inverness Caledonian Thistle earlier this evening.

The EL is an inconvenience, it’s damage limitation, and a few bob for Celtic, we cannot spend £ for £ on incoming, and you only need to look round CP to see why.

The quality of striker we require for Europe isn’t available, that’s why we took
a punt on Ciftci, early doors, and yes it’s much more complex ,than labelling or drama queening.
Simunovic is our biggest buy for years, and sadly Paul67 is, spot on.

I watch the U20s more than the 1st team so I’ve seen Scepovic often. Couldn’t see him making it here. Not to say he wont succeed elsewhere just not here. Great to admit that and put him back in his comfort zone on loan. If he succeeds, we sell and look elsewhere. That does not say he’s a dud or we failed. its where we are. We have to gamble with guys off the radar. I hope he succeeds and stays there.
Also need to give credit to Steve Frail who has done a great job with the U20s and is now leaving. Sense there is a backstory there somehow but the main thing is to recognise his motivational and tactical skills and his fantastic contribution to the Club. Thanks Steve. You nurtured and developed some great talent and deserved more recognition. I will never understand why so few fans follow the U20s.

Janko – Pedigree says a no-brainer signing; high hopes for this lad.
Boyata – Shaky? Dynamic? Bombscare? Goal-getting centre -half? All of these. fingers crossed he settles to the positive 2.
Allan – Born a Hun, saved form the Dark Side by Obi wan Kenobi, delivered to Ronny Deila by Han Solo on the Millenium Falcon to the seething angst of Jabba. by his good feet and silky touch, looks to have the Force – whether it’s strong in him, know by his performances this season we will…

Your article makes no mention of either fact that we have not actually spent a dime in this window (again) nor that we let Scepovic go without another striker coming in.
We are now a small european club. A feeder club for mid table English teams. The simple fact I am concerned about the loss of Scepovic says it all about where we are at.

I think when PL talked to RD about a striker, RD wasn’t too pleased at the thought of a player who would picket the team so said no thanks. At least that’s how PL translated ‘striker’ into Norwegian. Cunning trickster that he is!
I think it really is time for a total change at CP.
