The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

My daughter is a boxing fan! Told her to google (The Fabulous Four) it’s a must for any boxing fans….Hearns, Hagler, Duran and Sugar Ray…. The best off between them.

I am hearing that all of the major players in the RIFC hierarchy now agree that Murray Park has to go. No Sale & Lease back, but sold.

You’d have thought they might have tried to sell naming rights. Oh, hang on……..

Oh, and give this Gerry McNee loves Celtic stuff a rest

remember when you listen to Kevjungle on Gerry that he has he will always back his family over anyone else

Did he not say that he would pick Gerry over Caesar not so long ago, blood is thicker than water don’t you know

  4. Kitalba, ok you know the obvious ones, so we won’t go there.

But domination isn’t something I would want, just equality of opportunity.

Our society ain’t perfect, too many obvious examples to prove otherwise, but it’s not the disparaty of 50 years ago either.

    Hola from Santa Ponsa

Still can’t believe that Keane is a serious contender. No doubt the staunch brigade will approve but the guy has got nothing as a tactician and his signing record (posted on the blog earlier today) is frankly terrifying.

A golden age for the sport….for the record marvellous Marvin

did it for me,south paw, orthodox, tear-up.he was up for it.

  9. Half Time ROI / Italy Nil All. Good competitive game, draw at this stage about fair.

  10. After a 3 and a 1/2 hour struggle Andy Murray’s game is stopped for light, well darkness actually. Pair are tied 7-7 in the 5th.

Andy’s form swung from the sublime to the ridiculous and he sunk from a winning position in the fourth set.

Sunday shift for the pair of them

  11. Evening all

Won’t be watching fight. Am interested but I refuse to pay more money to watch my own telly- and as I have work at 8 tomorrow ( driving thereto) a trip to the pub not advisable. I liked Marvin Hagler but the best fight I can recall ( outside the Ali classics) was the first Duran v Leonard fight when the Panamanian won.

  12. What about keano with Martin number 2 for us and Martin with Keano number 2 for Ireland. Everyone happy bar kojo.

  13. I know it’s all about opinions but Roy Keanes managerial record is on a par if not slightly better than sainted Scotsman Malky McKay, who frankly was cack at Watford and patchy at Cardiff (getting money from Tan he wouldn’t get at us). He was also responsible for a frankly bizarre signing that will go down in the history books as one of the worst (cornelius)…

Contributed to their relegation this season.

Might be a star here but certainly not any better statistically than Keane it seems.

    Neither have euro experience.

The manager will be a risk. Keane comes as a risk (if it’s him) and whilst personally I’d like us to go continental it feels like some wiffy anti-irish sentiment seems to raise its head in the debate…

    In my opinion of course

Plese ghod let it be Keano, if only for peace from one half of the ‘trickle down brigade’.

The blog is a better place without the green hun.

I’d be happy with Michael Laudrup or Dan Petrescu. I believe they are both good coaches and football thinkers who could develop our first team squad and also get the best out of Lennoxtown. They’d also have us playing football the Glasgow Celtic way – not out of any prior connection with Celtic but out of an innate sense of how the game is meant to be played regardless of who they are in charge of.

All that’s needed now is the other half of the ‘Team America’ duo to make the same pledge…
