The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  1. Maybe if The Great Desmondo lived in Glasgow he’d have a better understanding of things.

Doc – obviously not a guy with a track record in the CL, but maybe a good record in a decent european league and some success in the Europa League?

We have guys at the club who managed to spot players in Vic and VVD. Do we not monitor up and coming managers/coaches too?

Totally agree with your views on RK.

The number on here who are salivating at getting a manager who’s Irish, get bums on seats and will deal with the SMSM is, in my opinion, not the way forward for our club.

Surely a club of our stature should be selecting a candidate from a footballing perspective which you mentioned in your post.

btw, I posted last night that Neil walked as he was told that RK was to be his number 2. Considering the speed of his departure something like that may have happened.

  4. Did carl froch not used to have a corner man who came out in the hoops?

    Nearly sure he did

    Good one!

    Brilliant!

    Where do you live Ernie?

    Surely not Glasgow?

  9. Celtic need a marquee manager to take them out of the Scottish backwater we are currently operating in.

Roy Keane is a very sensible appointment in terms of footballing kudos and planet fitba’s perception of how serious we are as a big team.

    Dermot Desmond is nobody’s fool.

Roy Keane will be appointed as part of a far bigger plan for the Grand Old Team.

Celtic are gearing up for their final push to get out of SPFL.

Can’t believe there are people who can’t see this.

  10. Doc

Do you think the msm will be salivating at the thought of sales going up on the back of RK being manager ? .

P.s god bless the people killed and injured at a rally today in the borders ….

I hear yer bro can post utter pish.

And I’m not happy about it.

  12. T4, fair point. As I said, I wanted that sort of appointment, but if it’s RK, he will get support.

Nakasammi, do you have a source for the rumour of RK coming in as No.2?

    Sounds extremely unlikely.

  13. On Roy Keane, a lot has been posted, some of it constructive with the odd derogatory post about him personally.

I am unsure what he will bring to Celtic, will he win us the League, yes. Will he take the Club forward especially in Europe, I have my doubts. However, I will get behind him and Celtic. One thing is for sure it will be interesting to see how he gets on with the Board and especially the MSM and the Establishment.

As Cowiebhoy has posted, his No. 2 will be a crucial element during his tenure.

Roy Keane will be the next Manager of Celtic, please get used to this before it is announced. Feel free to question whether he will be a success or the man for the job. Please do not berate the man as a person, it is not the Celtic way, we should not feed the Trolls.

Roy Keane will be the next Celtic Manager, watch this space. Get behind him and the Team.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  14. Margaret McGill, I can.

It is known Celtic have been looking for alternatives.

Perhaps the negotiations are going well.

The Irish raj don’t understand that Celtic are a Scottish team and not an Irish one living vicariously amongst hunnery

  16. Maybe Neil Lennon didn’t leave because he was told Hoopy The Huddle Hound was going to be replaced by Dipsy from the Teletubbies.

Maybe it was because he was told we were moving to England.

    No doubt about it.

  21. Bada Bing –

Following on from last night – Oz time – I really don’t have a beef with you. I generally enjoy your contributions to CQN and know you are a Celtic supporter of the highest calibre.

The reason I didn’t follow up on last week’s exchange was because I genuinely didn’t think there was anything more to say. I challenged you for your assertion that Neil Lennon had left over budget issues. You responded with a qualification of your view. I read your response and gave it some thought. That, to me, was an end to it. It wasn’t simply a case of my refusing to engage in a debate. We both had different opinions and we voiced them. There wasn’t really much more to say.

Having said that, I apologise for the tone of my responses earlier today. Would you please accept a cyber handshake?

  24. Just finished watching the Ireland Italy match, really good game for a 0-0. Ok on with my thoughts well I was very unhappy at the departure of Neil when I first heard about it on here and I am glad I kept my own council as I would have simply spouted emotional garbage about how he was the man to take us to ten in a row, I still feel he could have done that if he really wanted to be here for the long haul, he didn’t, and if he was to leave sooner rather than later I think he and Celtic have chosen the perfect time for a change of manager, if Neil had waited on the Darnell returning and then chosen to go it would have given the Zombies an enormous lift and a dull feeling to the Celtic support and no doubt Lennon himself, no this was the time and thanks for everything Mr Lennon I wish you every success in life you where a good solid Celtic manager and you left us in great shape for the future.

Who do I think should be Celtic manager hmmmm,

I love Henrik, he could do the job. but I also would love Roy Keane to be the boss I feel like he could build a Celtic team in his own image and I would like to see that happen.

Everyone is right his CV is not that great, but the clubs he has managed have meant nothing to him emotionally, Celtic is different it’s not about the money it’s not about being busy it’s about winning every game it’s about glory every time you cross the white line with the Hoops on and I think that reminds me of someone.

    Hail Hail

  25. Captain Beefheart killed Marxist dreams... Keane ate my courage... Formerly JO'N... Just say no to the clique. on

Why do people persist with the notion that Celtic are trying to take away the club’s Irish heritage? It is just piffle. O’Neill, Lennon, Keane, Desmond, GAA links, music at CP, merchandise etc.

I don’t say this lightly.but I think RK would be a dreadful appointment. Foremost I think he’s a crap manager which, that alone, should rule him out of contention.

Additionally I suspect that media attention surrounding Celtic would be more about his successes and failures rather than those of the Celtic players. I think what I’m trying to say is that Celtic would be about RK and not about CFC.

I think he is the wrong man for the job and I would also say that about Henke but in a different way.

    Have a good evening all.

Glad to see you posting on here again. Haven’t caught one of your posts in a wee while. I hope you and your kids are doing well. I posted the other day as to why I thought Celtic would not appoint Roy Keane as manager. To me, there is a bigger downside than upside. I’m beginning go think though that thay will appoint the bould Irish Bhoy as our next manager. If they do, I’ll eat humble pie and give him my 100% support. If Roy does the business, I think the stadium will be full and we’ll lionise him like a, like a ……. well like a Lisbon Lion. (That of course applies to whoever gets the job!) I just hope to hell it’s not Owen Coyle.
