The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  2. Mullet and Co, maybe your right but I have a feeling in my gut that the real Roy Keane would show up for Glasgow Celtic, not the going through the motions with some wee diddy clubs version that his CV would suggest.

They are starting work themselves up now.

Fair play to them if they do win the thing though, at least they are there a suppose.

Has Celtic ever appointed a manager who ‘ticked all the boxes’?

If Keane gets the gig it means that the other candidates were either substandard or laughed at the wages, and that DD sees the Keane name as putting bums on seats and selling season tickets. Just my opinion for what it is worth. RK should be good enough to win the league with the present squad but I doubt he’ll make much impact in Europe. Time will tell.

    16 roads,

There is more chance of me getting the Celtic gig than there is of England winning the World Cup..not a hope pal.

  13. If and when Roy Keane is appointed then we should be all thankful that a club like Celtic can still attract top professionals like RK. His heart is in it, he understands what we we are, what we have suffered at the hands of the every scottish organisation, national, football, media or otherwise. We should be glad that an ultimate professional like RK would consider the Celtic managers job with all it’s constraints. He does not need Celtic financially, so taking the manager’s job is an honour for him and is close to his heart. That my friends is good enough for me. Someone who wanted to terminate their career in the illustrious hoops should have us all be a little more respectful of someone most of us have never met.

Here’s a wee story for you. My nephew told me several years ago, when he was with the accounting firm which audited the Rangers FC accounts, that Dick Advocaat added £2 million to the cost of Murray Park that all the rooms were round so that cliques couldn’t develop. This was around the time that the Ibrox Stadium was magically revalued to circa £120millions to become one of the most expensive real estate properties in the country.

Rye catcher, Keane ticks none of the boxes for Celtic manager.

Successful track record? Took Sunderland up spending 10 s of millions in the process. Then things turned sour and he walked. Ipswich was a complete and utter disaster. He had them at 19 in the championship.

    European record. None

Good track record with bringing in low value players and making huge profits? No evidence of this in fact he wasted pots of cash.

Good with press? Debatable. Ok in England but wait till he starts on this village.

Good track record with managing players? None. The Sinderland players celebrated when he left.

I imagine he will have direct line to Dermot. He will not suffer any crap and will demand more money to spend. The evidence is there he will not spend it wisely. I do hope Dermot is indemnifying the potential loses.

    …………………………………

I agree with everything you say there.

Roy Keane should be thanking his lucky stars he is getting the opportunity to manage our club. This is his final chance at club management.

If he makes a pig’s ear of it he is finished as a manager.

I wish him all the best..

Disappointed that you could even think that.

  24. Mullet and co…..

Cant remember Keano spending megamillions to galvanise Sunderland from 24th place in the Championship to winning it 7 months later.

It went sour in the EPL for a multitude of reasons. Most of them were outside of his control.

Give him control at a really big club like Celtic and we will see.

Personally cant stand most things ManUre related, particularly Adolf Ferguson and his classless comments about former players and opposition players, but will always make an exception for Keano…………Lord…..I would have loved to have seen him in a LFC shirt.
