The Juninho EBT

1126

I see several “fans’ groups” are engaged on the subject of our old friend, Juninho, who played around 13 games for Celtic eight years ago and benefited from an Employee Benefit Trust before and during his time at the club.

Can you believe this is where their focus is?

As Sir David Murray and a gaggle of his former directors will tell you, there is nothing illegal in EBTs, it’s the undeclared second contracts the football authorities have a problem with. Juninho’s EBT was not subject to any contract or side letter whatsoever. Moreover, our then chairman, Brian Quinn, regarded EBTs with suspicion and instructed the club to declare Juninho’s to the Revenue. Celtic even paid tax on money paid to the EBT.

The SFA and SPL, and every journalist in Scotland interested in getting a story right, are fully aware of the facts.

I suppose running with this beats looking at links between Green and Whyte. Keep up the good work, guys!

And for the record, stripping titles is not the ultimate sanction, not by the length of Argyle St.

re EBT & Dual Contracts, what are the chances of:

    1. Celtic FC or

    2. well to do shareholders or

    3. all 26,000 of us who bought in way back in the Fergus days

taking the SFA to court on the basis of up to 5 years of CL monies did not benefit the club at a time when qualifying was not a pre-requisite?

    We want our titles back?

    We want our money back?

Time to apply a big size 11 on the throat of the whole damned lot of the cheats that stopped our club flourishing when we were in the fast lane…….

Sir David Murray expected to make statement on Rangers EBTs later today.

  4. I take a completely contrary view to those advocating the Club should comment on Juninho’s EBT.

If the SFA and/or SPL have any query with the issue they should ask Celtic and Celtic should answer them.

Pandering to crackpot’s and cranks on the likes of Follow Follow and even less credible sites (I understand they do exist) by responding to their made up dung is the road to madness in my view.

They have sold 35,000 season tickets but they can’t be used for the East Fife game.

Pay as you go £35.00 X 35000 (at least) = £1,225,000 cash at the turnstyle.

    Result.

While I think in principle we’re due it, I think we’d be hard pressed to get it.

It’s UEFA we’d need to get it from anyway, as they’re the ones that paid it out.

So we approach UEFA where the payments came from, they contact SFA for allowing Rangers to field ineligable players, they try to get it back from Rangers.

It’s a mess that would be blocked and counter blocked at every turn, and would probably end up costing us mroe in lawyers fees than we’d gain.

Why would Celtic want to comment on hun inspired innuendo and rumour? They would never stop commenting if they had to respond every time they come up with a new one. Let them stew in it, give them enough rope…

Not surprised, considering the number of meetings they have had at hotels in Edinburgh.

  17. Can see Fergus calling an inquiry for when he was in charge with regards dual contracts. The bunnet to return with a bang?

So far, since last thursday, we’ve had:

Smith interview (can’t understand it, death of football, punished enough yadda yadda)

Three supporters associations of some old club making a joint statement today

Alex McLeish interview ref EBTs today

    David Murray statement expected today.

Let’s keep a running list that might throw light on the orchestrator if there is one.

Be interesting to see the topic, tone and rhetoric from the MSM bampots this week. look out for common phrases and we might get an idea of who is ‘on song’

  20. How funny is it going to be when Sevco disappear after the share issue and leave rangers with a mammoth wage bill it cannot pay…

Francisco Sandaza could seal a contract with Rangers after being offered a deal worth £1m.

Rangers have tabled a four year deal for the ex-St Johnstone forward worth £250,000 a year, after tax.

Sandaza has been a free agent since leaving Perth in the summer and has had a number of offers across the continent, including a contract with a Belgian club which he turned down last week.

The Spanish striker is now bound for Glasgow to finalise the £5000-a-week contract with Rangers.

Don’t forget Billy Dodds at the weekend with his ” I was owed money by rangers when I left rangers, my advisors agreed to take the sum after tax in an EBT” defence.

  23. The circling of the EBT wagon is interesting, youd think as individuals they have taken legal advice either from their respective PFA reps or their respective lawyers, if they havent well maybe they should consider it before they make comments that may, just may come back in the not too distant future to haunt them.

Do they pay VAT on ST installments? If so, presumably they wouldn’t want to be inflating the figures they give to the Revenue.
