The standard we now dare aspire to

374

Consider this: with Celtic certainties to win the league, they have now been given three consecutive home Scottish Cup games, against Brechin, Partick and Morton, on the road to perhaps becoming the first club to retain the treble in Scottish football history. For so many years home cup draws were as elusive as the outcome to SFA review results into Rangers Uefa licence in 2011, but here we are.

The big picture from the weekend: Despite things still being far from flowing on the park, I’m delighted with the win over Partick Thistle. Of the two cup games this week, the Thistle game was the most important. An aggregate win over Zenit would flood more euros into the Celtic Park coffers, but progress of (perhaps only) one more round in the Europa League will be forgotten long before the outcome of this season’s Scottish Cup.

In his first five seasons in charge, Jock Stein won five league titles and five League Cups, losing three Scottish Cup games during that period. This is the standard we now dare aspire to.

As you state, there is an element of doubt over Doncaster’s culpability in the RFC/Sevco sage.

However, as you also say, his zealous promotion of same club narrative does pose a question on the level of involvement.

The pragmatic approach to SFA reform is to gather as SPFL allies as possible, which, for me, means working with their CEO.

In his favour, he did back the call for a review of the licence issue, therefore I think that offeers him a window of redemption.

  4. One of my dogs I bought with my dole money. Not long married and I was going through Smithfield in Belfast and I saw this Lakeland pup. Two weeks dole. I have only been out of work 3/4 times in my life.

, and money was scarce. Only married a couple of months. I just melted and bought him. I came back home and put him in bed with the missus. A big lick later and we had our first doggie hug. He was called Trampas after Doug McClure in the Virginian.

Had him two years only. Fabulous smart wee dog.

He was killed attacking an Army jeep, and he was buried in a small tricolour

  7. I’vehadtochangemy name. I am still around. Taking time to recover from that bug. Actually missed three home games because of it. However I did manage to travel to Paris on 2 Feb for a long weekend. Took in the France v Ireland rugby match in the company of 22 of my cousins. They were Dublin, Galway, Cork and Donegal. Actually they were from the first three counties mentioned but our grandparents were from Donegal. We also had others from Connecticut, New Jersey, Dubai, Luxembourg and Paris. Not a bad mix as was the variety of wines. Good time was had by all. In recovery at present.

Since the dog stories are on the go I thought I’d throw mine in for a read or a scroll past…I’ll keep it brief.

2005 and me working away a lot my wife decides a dog would be good for for the (young at the time) kids. Much against my will, (because having had dogs as a child I knew how much, extra, work they are – and who would end up with the bulk of this work), the test was passed from the wifey who runs the dog home in the Black Isle and we were accepted as a potential home.

I was away when the dog was chosen. The final word was from my 7 year old daughter.

“I want the doggie with the melting eyes!”

This poor thing with the soul-searching l, communicating eyes, not much older than a pup – almost fully grown. White chest, light tan with dark patches scattered all over, long haired tail with a white tip, small floppy ears and long side burns complimenting here collie face. Collie, lurcher, spaniel and a bit of terrier the vet reckoned. A reject from the travelling folks’ breeding programme, (an interesting subject I’ve read about since), they’d abandoned her tied to a fence near Munlochy in the Black Isle.

She must’ve been bred as a rabbit catcher because the months after she arrived, the garden was covered in dead rabbits. Once summer evening my wife turned round from the sink to meet her coming in the patio door with a fully grown rabbit in her mouth. Cue a scream, followed by a shocked wee dog opening her mouth – for the rabbit to take the fotrtunate opportunity to shoot back out the door.

Anyway, the wee bitch will be 14 this spring – and apart from being a wee bit darker and doesn’t run upright in a corn field as she used to…..she stll acts like the melting-eyed refugee of 13 years ago.

And me…….well, you ever seen me write this much before?

    Almore,

It’s obvious what you’re talking about…..the lack of activity on this site.

My own work circumstances are what dictate what I contribute.

CQN in its glory years (?)….I was working 4 on 4 off (weeks).

This meant I could contribute easily when I was away working – a great comfort this site was then – and had plenty time when at home to contribute as well.

I am currently in between jobs….which is why I’m here tonight!

After next week I’ll dry up again. Unless there is anything in Stavanger, Norway I should check out?

  11. Had a bad tempered wire fox terrier who didnae like other breeds years ago.So as we were heading out of country for Christmas i used to take him to a boarding kennel in Mew Paltz NY that only boarded his breed.

Had a Jeep cherokee at the time.

My kids 9 and 7 wanted to go with me i said ok if they promised not to play with dog as he is prone to car sickness .It was a 30 mile journey and we set off in a snowstorm.

The dog was in the back section and kids in the back seat.I hear them playing with dog and yell at them to stop playing with him to no avail.

Suddenly the dog throws up and it hits my son who is sitting behind me in the shoulder and arm.

He of course freaks out and yells thats stinking and disgusting then proceeds to vomit through the head rest on back of my seat and down my neck.My daughter decides to join the party and throws up also.

I pull over and have a car stinking and full of vomit.

I have no cleaning cloth’s in car so only option was take off tops and clean car as best i could discarding our shirts at side of freeway.

By this time the snow is picking up and the car was stinking and since we were leaving next day had no option but continue driving with all three of us topless and windows open to alleviate the smell.

The outlet shops at Woodbury common were a few miles ahead so arrived there freezing and shirtless and went into Calvin Klein outlet to buy 3 t-shirts.They checked my credit card and even called the credit card company who i spoke to to verify it was me and not some topless lunatic who had stolen my card.

The rest of the journey was uneventful thankfully.

Though whenever my family come to the USA they want to visit Woodbury common and i’m still convinced the Calvin Klein staff recognize me.

In my view Jozo is still our best CH, yes a nightmare on Saturday, but he is only 23, and not really huge amount of experience He will benefit from a Compper next to him

*I recall having the same conversation with my da about the Fife Beckenbauer who it seems had alleged psychological problems, his response was” he’s nae good sitting in the hoose”. George might have thrived alongside Pat Stanton, we;ll never know as he was gone by then.

Jozo is about the same age as George when he won the POY award after which he walked out on the national squad. A trait they both seem to share.

Something not right with Jozo and not just with us, but both national sides tae. You have to wonder with all the talent he undoubtedly has how we got him so easy and also at an undisclosed fee and also what was the real reason Torino walked away.

IMHO he’ll be gone before the start of next season.

@Auldheid is the good cop trying to weed out corruption against the SFA.

Are the other bloggers like @CQN @videocelts @ETimsNet @paullarkin74 @LaytonBhoy @Pmacgiollabhain going to call them out or remain tight lipped like the corrupt cops?

    In addition to the above.

    Combined with the:

    Working at home situation;

    Using a stupid mobile to read CQN as opposed to a proper computer;

    Missing the departed maniacs / intellectuals;

Not having much to shout about RCFC wise.

All led to my gradual fade off.

Still clock in and read most days though as my go to place for news.

  18. Both Mrs TT and I were scared of dugs, me because I was bitten by one when I was a wee bhoy. It was lying sleeping on the road one sunny day, no too much traffic back then, and I ran over tae pat it, snap.

So here we were about 40 or so years later and decide tae buy a pup at the insistence of a young TT. It was a Golden, we went through all the early growing up problems, he was also very active. One night I’m out walking him when I slipped on black ice, up in the air I went, banged my heid and dropped the leash. Oh eff me I thought he’ll run away, nae chance he’s over licking my face.

We had him for 15 1/2 years, he was great with the grandweans, it was brutal putting him down. We vowed never to go through that again so nae merr dug. Then I retired and after sitting around for about a year decided tae get another one, we justified this by saying he would probably outlive us, that was 4 year ago. He’s a Golden tae and a great companion tae both of us and as you would imagine great with another generation of grandweans.

We used tae say they would be hopeless guard dogs, if anyone broke in they would probably lick them tae death. Not so, if a stranger as much as walks up the driveway t they bark.

  21. How To Photograph A Puppy (before digital cameras)

Remove film from box and load camera.

Remove film box from puppy’s mouth and throw in trash.

Remove puppy from trash and brush coffee grounds from muzzle.

Choose a suitable background for photo.

Mount camera on tripod and focus.

Find puppy and take dirty sock from mouth.

Place puppy in pre-focused spot and return to camera.

Forget about spot and crawl after puppy on knees.

Focus with one hand and fend off puppy with other hand.

Get tissue and clean nose print from lens.

Put cat outside and put peroxide on the scratch on puppy’s nose.

Put magazines back on coffee table.

Try to get puppy’s attention by squeaking toy over your head… Replace your glasses and check camera for damage.

Jump up in time to grab puppy and say, “Potty, outside!”

Call spouse to clean up the mess.

    Fix a drink.

Sit back in Lazy Boy with drink, and resolve to teach puppy “sit” and “stay” the first thing in the morning.

  22. Just mentioned a NI tv show I watched on Saturday, there was another one a couple of weeks back on CBC, it was a 4 part series called “The Secret” about a respected dentist who has an affair with a fellow church member and then decides tae murder his spouse and hers because God told him to do it to end their pain of betrayal.

That bit was bizarre enough but they were all baptists and used tae chant all the baptists hymns, it was like the southern states over here. Baptists in the black north though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
