This is a dead football club

899

We are five days away from the end of the season, Duff and Phelps have spent 10 weeks trying to solicit an offer for the assets of the company and the only one they were in a position to consider has now been withdrawn.

The stadium remains in Craig Whyte’s hands.

The SPL has not offered a place in the league.

The players can choose to become free agents on Sunday.

Duff and Phelps have no money to pay anyone or anything after 31 May.

Are you getting the picture?

Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later, or ‘Rangers to benefit from Miller withdrawal’ you read about tomorrow, not one piece of positive news has gone Rangers way in weeks.

This is a dead football club. If there was an accountancy term beyond liquidation, perhaps uber-liquidation, they would be uber-liquidated (there’s not, but if this gets any worse the English language will need some re-work).

Yesterday’s delay was the most complete confirmation possible, for anyone still harbouring doubt, today’s message from Miller should be no surprise to Celtic Quick News readers.

Miller’s parting shot:

“After hearing the message from Rangers supporters and fans loud and clear (“Yank go home!”), I notified the administrators today that I have withdrawn my bid for Rangers”.

…has the makings of a topic for a business doctorate, if anyone is looking for one.  I’d elaborate but reckon we’re all a little carried away at the moment for serious debate.

The histrionics since yesterday and, if you don’t mind me saying, lack of appreciation of these historic times, would dishonour teenage girls (no offense teenage girls).

Please stop with all the silliness, indignation and faux trauma.  Some football supporters have real issues to worry about.

SunSport understands the businessmen are now front-runners to land Rangers — after US tow-truck tycoon Bill Miller pulled out.

We can reveal majority shareholder Whyte, 41, WILL deal with the consortium, made up of a number of people with experience from clubs in the Premiership.

Sources say they DON’T want to liquidate the club and plan to exit administration through a CVA.

An insider said: “The consortium is being led by football people with experience at the highest level in the game. They’ve serious money and most importantly it looks as though they have the blessing of Whyte.

“Talks took place all yesterday afternoon and things have been moving quite quickly.

“It is understood an agreement with Whyte is 90% in place.

“The people involved know about Rangers and their history and liquidation is not what they want. They want to exit administration through a CVA.

“The most important thing is that is seems Craig Whyte is keen to work with them.”

The surprise bid does NOT involve Brian Kennedy or the Blue Knights.

Kennedy — in New York on business — was last night stunned by Miller’s withdrawal.

The Sale Sharks chief told SunSport: “I’m speechless. I need to take time to reflect on things.”

Duff and Phelps revealed two other foreign bids have been lodged as they chase a buyer for the club.

Miller’s exit has left them under serious pressure to deliver.

Tennessee-based Miller yesterday insisted a supporters’ backlash was a major factor behind his decision to walk away.

And his advisor Jon Pritchett last night told SunSport: “The negativity wasn’t the only reason but it was a contributing factor.

“I know it’s a minority, but a group of people have used email and other social media to make it clear that they don’t want Bill involved.

“I’m talking about things like: ‘Yank go home.’ With the expletives that were included, I think that surprised Bill.

“I liken it to a situation where your house is burning down, the fire truck arrives and you yell at the fireman to get off your lawn as it’s your property.” Club9 Sports chief Pritchett slammed claims Miller had no intention of following through with his bid.

He said: “I just don’t know how anyone in their right mind could say he wasn’t serious.

“He hired quite a few advisors and spent quite a bit of time.

“He’s just bought a brand new yacht, but put off a trip to the Caribbean so he could work on this.

“I don’t understand anyone who would criticise a man who decided to spend six-eight weeks working day and night to determine whether or not he wanted to sink a lot of money into the club and turn it around. Doing it in Scotland wouldn’t have been any more valuable than doing here in the States.

“Bill is big on not wasting time on ceremony, speeches and appearances. He’s a direct guy. He’s about doing the work.

“His view was that until he was satisfied, there was no reason to go over for the pomp and circumstance of an appearance.”

Miller’s withdrawal left Gers skipper Steven Davis stunned — and fearing there could be even MORE problems at Ibrox.

Davis said: “Maybe he’s seen something the rest of us don’t know. Time will tell.”

“Hopefully we can get some kind of conclusion before we break up for the summer on Sunday.”

SPL chief Neil Doncaster also pleaded for clarity — but said the SPL were powerless.

He said: “Control is in the hands of the bidders and Duff & Phelps. The 11 clubs and the SPL would clearly prefer clarity.”

    I just read CST note.

Doncasters strategy is to salami slice Rangers midemeanours in order to make them fit normal rules for dealing with insolvency/liqudation.

He can then justify a newco route basrc on normal pre edent or at least he can try

Supporters have to insist that no vote be taken by the SPL until the full extent of Rangers crimes football and civil are known and then and only then can a suitable judgement be reached.

They can sit with a bloody gap in the fixture list if Rangers are liqidated and postpone any Newco decision until a judgement can be passed that reflects the damage done to Scottish football in general and Celtic in particular.

The situation with regard to club licensing is that ‘Newco cannot be given one by the SFA without making an ecception. If uefa rules apply as the SFA rules state then uefa need to get involed.

I’ve covered this in an article for the pdf version of this weeks ntv and hope CU will upload it.

The plan depends on keeping UEFA out the loop (and I suspect they go along with it) but they risk a serious questions if they do. A question that the article brings out.

The SPL, the SFA and Uefa are in cahoots, it would be ironic if there was no Newco with players ready to oblige them.

I’ve got a wonderful feeling everything’s going my way

Just in from being away for a few days so not been able to surf the CQN site. I got a call from Mrs Northbhoy to tell me the news that the Bill has flown.

Then watched Newsnight Scotland and poor Gordon Mathieson getting taunted by the newsnight Scotland guy who ribbed him about the review of the parades this summer, and poor Gordon was wearing the green and white, his face was a picture. Will this ribaldry never end.

The Newsnight interview with Jon Pritchett, of Club 9Sports, was enormously revealing and awfully grown up. Pritchett was the guy who led Bill Miller to pursue his interest as the preferred victim.

The piece was a clear warning to anyone with any interest in the ‘turnaround business’ that this business is not worth ‘spending the children’s inheritance’on. I really think that the only saviour is some mad reckless maverick who wants to misspend money to make some mark in history. They do of course exist vis-a-vis Mileson of Gretna and all that, and the outcome was liquidation and a supporters trust establishing Gretna 2008.

The consequences of Millers flight iare reeling round my head at the moment and mostly with a great big smile attached to them.

The SFA cannot issue a licence without contravening the conditions for doing so.

They say that UEFA licensing applies to SPL clubs and that standard requires them to go to uefa to make an exception to grant newco a license, but they might argue they can make an exception themselves if they say National Club licensing also applies and they do not need uefa approval but would still need to be able to justify an exception. As both rules stand Newco cannot get a licence.

However this and not involving Uefa in a case of such wide public interest where tax evasion on a massive scale is involved calls into question what is the point of licensing if it can be ignored when it suits? It has a poltical dimension that A T is well aware of and whilst UEFA might be happy to stay out of it there are risks to them and ffp of doing so.

In time of stress, their unstinted support, unbroken devotion to our club and calmness in adversity eased the task of making Rangers FC the premier club in this country.

“To be a Ranger is to sense the sacred trust of upholding all that such a name means in this shrine of football. They must be true in their conception of what the Ibrox tradition seeks from them. No true Ranger has ever failed in the tradition set him.

“Our very success, gained you will agree by skill, will draw more people than ever to see it. And that will benefit many more clubs than Rangers. Let the others come after us. We welcome the chase. It is healthy for us. We will never hide from it. Never fear, inevitably we shall have our years of failure, and when they arrive, we must reveal tolerance and sanity.
