This is a dead football club

899

We are five days away from the end of the season, Duff and Phelps have spent 10 weeks trying to solicit an offer for the assets of the company and the only one they were in a position to consider has now been withdrawn.

The stadium remains in Craig Whyte’s hands.

The SPL has not offered a place in the league.

The players can choose to become free agents on Sunday.

Duff and Phelps have no money to pay anyone or anything after 31 May.

Are you getting the picture?

Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later, or ‘Rangers to benefit from Miller withdrawal’ you read about tomorrow, not one piece of positive news has gone Rangers way in weeks.

This is a dead football club. If there was an accountancy term beyond liquidation, perhaps uber-liquidation, they would be uber-liquidated (there’s not, but if this gets any worse the English language will need some re-work).

Yesterday’s delay was the most complete confirmation possible, for anyone still harbouring doubt, today’s message from Miller should be no surprise to Celtic Quick News readers.

Miller’s parting shot:

“After hearing the message from Rangers supporters and fans loud and clear (“Yank go home!”), I notified the administrators today that I have withdrawn my bid for Rangers”.

…has the makings of a topic for a business doctorate, if anyone is looking for one.  I’d elaborate but reckon we’re all a little carried away at the moment for serious debate.

The histrionics since yesterday and, if you don’t mind me saying, lack of appreciation of these historic times, would dishonour teenage girls (no offense teenage girls).

Please stop with all the silliness, indignation and faux trauma.  Some football supporters have real issues to worry about.

I know what you mean. It’s human nature. I’m curious as well, but we’ve already seen what the Hun bampots are capable of.

  4. James Forrest:

I don’t know why all the doom and gloom. Nothing has happened yet regards the present theatre but hey! in our history previous to these days all we ever had of note was the Flag Issue and Farrygate. I think the past twelve months have achieved substantially more than the past seven decades combined.

I remember writing Auldheid and others an e-mail at the time of the euphoria over Dougie does Dallas saying that their was bigger obstacles to equality than they and naming Mr. Ogilvie as heid hunstigator. With him still in office there will always be issues. However, the SFA have been forced to rewrite their own charter and rules, either/or or both, and they are making a tit of the job.

I’ll be disheartened if in five years time we have not a level playing field and bigots with responsibility still take their bigotry to the office with them.

My father, along with countless others loved ones, died without ever feeling the winds of change. All they talked of was the day the flag stayed up. They lived their lives under an orange cloud. That generation knew the worst of it and they endured and never gave up. Times are so much better now. Education and a shared ideal are the common denominators that when galvanised to will, will be all we need to one day see the bubble in the middle of the glass. To chuck the fight now is whimpish, disrespectful to those who have passed on and cowardly if passed to our children to resolve in our name, and sure as hell is hot our children will know better than us like they always do in their own minds.

It is our time, we only get the one time, there is no second chances; soon we will all be dead. We will have left our mark, or no mark, on the day. Future generations will look back on these days and as print is their bible they will extoll the ones who fought the good fight. They’ll never know that those who stood apart even existed. They’ll have a football club to gather to or they will be scattered.

Times are changing, they are. Bells near and far, big and small, grand and humble, bells are tolling. Make them ring the knells of hell calling home the supremacists.

  5. I picked up Ian Rankin’s “The Impossible Dead” from the local library at the weekend, and have been reading it over the last couple of days.

I read a handful of the Rebus books and for the most part, enjoyed them. I was interested in discovering what Rankin’s post-Rebus offerings were like. I have been left completely disappointed and feeling like I have wasted several hours of my life on such flat, colourless and contrived rubbish.

It’s the same tired old formula as the Rebus novels, which at least had some life in them, most of the time. The characters – mostly bent coppers, hence my use of the words “tired old formula” – are so utterly uninteresting and devoid of any depth.

I got to page 75 before chucking it, and believe me I had to work hard to get that far.

I know Ian Rankin is much better than that. I wish he would use his undoubted talents by writing about something other than street crime, wee neds and nasty policemen. I know how publishers tend to insist on authors sticking to the road that pays big bucks, but surely Rankin is wealthy enough to take a different road, if he really does have it in him.

Whilst I understand, and sympathise with posters who feel frustated by all the ongoing shenanigans surrounding the demise of rangers,I simply can’t get my head around the idea of ceasing to watch Celtic play.If our board were to vote to allow newco into SPL,that would perhaps change my mindset, but,so far,Celtic have given no indication that this would be their course of action,as long as our custodians remain faithful to the idea of accepting nothing less than full and punitive punishment for whatever entity replaces rangers,I see no reason to give up watching our team play

  8. Some posts have been looking to the overseas overseers of our game.

However I feel that we need to look no further than Mount Florida to root out the blight infecting our game.

When the club representatives and appointed employees of the SFA, SFL and SFA openly speak of ignoring cheating at every level in our game and refuse to act decisively within the published rules, no amount of appeals to Switzerland will remedy the corporate corruption that has turned a blind eye to historically favour Rangers.

Only Celtic can force changes to uphold integrity and forever force the game to be played on a level field.

How we do it it to underwrite the potential losses the other league teams will sustain over the absence of Rangers fans and their tainted pound.

Use Celtic TV to provide some extra revenue to offset the TV deal loss, which I believe is a canard.

Offer clubs a share of the revenue their fans bring when they attend Celtic Park.

Realign the existing TV deal shareout.

Realign the SPL prize money to assist the clubs in the lower six.

Assist the other clubs in managing their finances by providing financial expertise and by help them negotiate their bank overdrafts to tide them over cash strapped periods.

It will require some hard bargaining, some precise financial figures and a determination that clubs will spend within their means over the foreseeable future.

We can be saviours of our game and once more a model for all the other clubs and leagues in Europe.

We just need some will and foresight.

    Good morning CQNers,

Come the day that Rangers are pronounced dead I hope the Sky/ESPN television deal also dies and Celtic go their own way and do a deal with Al Jazeera to beam Celtic TV across the world.

Now wouldn’t that be a GIRUY for Doncaster and the fawning club chairmen in the SPL.

  13. Champion Spring Morning here in the Chilterns…

Well done to the Clydesdale Bank Three, nice to see Lenny get recognised (& not in a public enemy No.1 way).

Saw the Celtic Trusts statement following their meet with the SPL, Mr Doncaster, for me now holds no credibility.

Like numerous characters involved in the shadows of this charade, now the light has been shown he has been found partial to say the least.

ND would like to give the false impression he is some sort of PLC CEO whose sole purpose is looking after his shareholders [commercial] interests.

Of course this is not so, you only have to read the plethora of rules & regulations CQN’s older & wiser subscriber’s have posted to realise this is not the case.

Let’s make No mistake the SPL is one of Scottish Football’s prime REGULATORY bodies, yes one of it’s Key functions is to Regulate the top tier of our National Sport.

Mr Doncaster has shown under his Stewardship the SPL is not fit for this fundamental purpose. I don’t like the idea of anyone losing their job but ND must resign or be told to leave, this must happen with immediate effect, certainly well before the vote on the 30th of May.

If they are in the SPL next season, in any form, they will not think they have been beaten.

Celtic can, and hopefully will, stop a newco being allowed into the SPL.

It follows that if there is a newco in the SPL it has been with the connivance of Celtic.

That would be an irrevocable breach of trust and a deal breaker for a lot of Celtic fans.

I’d find it incomprehensible for anyone to suggest that Celtic supporters would be swayed by what Rangers supporters think; personally I don’t give a rat’s ass what they think.

Whenever HMRC and the SPL make their pronouncements on Rangers tax affairs/double contracts will be the proper time for a statement from the Celtic board.

Let’s just wait until then before we start an argument about creating the Real Celtic or the Provisional Celtic. Supporter factions.

Good morning fellow Celts a lovely Spring morning in North Hampshire.

James Forrest I doubt there ever was integrity in our game and especially in Scotland.

I would expect our club to seek to join with other kindred spirits and form a breakaway league across Europe. Short- term we lose out on CL and issues over players willing to move outside mainstream etc

TV money and sponsorship money might be slow in catching on as there would be a strong lobby to keep the breakaway isolated.

However, in time a fair league with a set of rules founded on FFP and sporting integrity would be attractive to many if not all.

It would keep the club alive and provide meaningful games.

Bill Miller: I’m pulling out because the situation with Rangers finances is worse than I was told. Within one day of due dilligence I found that you’d need deeper pockets to save Rangers. It didn’t help the bid with being told to Go Home Yank.

Scottish Media: Good riddance to Yank. Pulling out because of a few emails is not the type of person we want in our game.

    1872-2012 is dead…

    CVA – 5%

    Liquidation – 85/90%

    Third Lanark – 5/10%

    My new prediction:

    CVA – 0%

    Liquidation – 60%

    Third Lanark – 40%
