This is a dead football club

899

We are five days away from the end of the season, Duff and Phelps have spent 10 weeks trying to solicit an offer for the assets of the company and the only one they were in a position to consider has now been withdrawn.

The stadium remains in Craig Whyte’s hands.

The SPL has not offered a place in the league.

The players can choose to become free agents on Sunday.

Duff and Phelps have no money to pay anyone or anything after 31 May.

Are you getting the picture?

Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later, or ‘Rangers to benefit from Miller withdrawal’ you read about tomorrow, not one piece of positive news has gone Rangers way in weeks.

This is a dead football club. If there was an accountancy term beyond liquidation, perhaps uber-liquidation, they would be uber-liquidated (there’s not, but if this gets any worse the English language will need some re-work).

Yesterday’s delay was the most complete confirmation possible, for anyone still harbouring doubt, today’s message from Miller should be no surprise to Celtic Quick News readers.

Miller’s parting shot:

“After hearing the message from Rangers supporters and fans loud and clear (“Yank go home!”), I notified the administrators today that I have withdrawn my bid for Rangers”.

…has the makings of a topic for a business doctorate, if anyone is looking for one.  I’d elaborate but reckon we’re all a little carried away at the moment for serious debate.

The histrionics since yesterday and, if you don’t mind me saying, lack of appreciation of these historic times, would dishonour teenage girls (no offense teenage girls).

Please stop with all the silliness, indignation and faux trauma.  Some football supporters have real issues to worry about.

Good on you, sftb, for supporting a fellow Tim

    However,Ernie states these as facts:

“Celtic can, and hopefully will, stop a newco being allowed into the SPL.

It follows that if there is a newco in the SPL it has been with the connivance of

    Are these facts or opinions?

Can you or he corroborate these assertions?

You have to wonder what his motivation is?

If this is misinformation, then it is malicious misinformation.

Am I hearing the rumours correctly that the hun players only took a wage deferral and are now collectively the single biggest football creditors at Mordor ?

If so, that also means that any PAYE/NI Contributions owed on the deferred wages will have to be factored into the equation giving HMRC even more leverage.

    Good.

Doing some research on the Empire Exhibition Trophy of 1938 I read a piece which said Bill Struth received a replica of the trophy as did each member of the Celtic and Everton teams, Willie Maley and sundry others. I assume Struth got his on account of Ibrox hosting the competition which, of course, Celtic won. I can just imagine the Rangers manager hosting a tea party for some of his mateys with the replica of the EET (one of Celtic’s most cherished baubles) on the sideboard and he being asked the obvious :-

” Struth, what is that ?”

RANGERS don’t have time for this.

Not for Bill Miller just stringing everyone along.

Not for the SPL sticking its head in the sand.

Not for administrators Duff & Phelps’ utter incompetence.

The club I love needs a protective masculine guardian — and quickly.

It needs someone butch with its best interests at heart.

It needs saving NOW — before it’s too late.

I couldn’t believe it when I heard the whole takeover saga was back to square one.

Well, that’s not exactly true now is it ?

The way everything has been handled for the past few months I actually was not surprised at all.

This is the way it’s been for long enough.

Just when we all started to think the mess was getting cleaned up there was another spank on the backside and not a playful one.

I couldn’t work it out on Monday when the SPL delayed their big decision on Rangers.

I wondered then if it could lead to something else.

Next thing I know preferred bidder Miller was releasing a statement saying Rangers wasn’t for him after all.

What the hell was he playing at? Fooling around with us like that ?

Was this just an exercise in making a name for himself?

Was he just looking for some publicity on the back of Rangers’ sorry situation? It certainly looks that way to me. I read his statement yesterday and he blamed the negativity surrounding his takeover.

I’m sorry, but if what’s been written about him has put him off then maybe Rangers are better off without the guy at all.

Better to have no Rangers at all that some hissy fitting Yankee and I should know

That’s the way of the world these days.

Stick your head above the parapet and you should expect someone to take aim and fire.

If you are not prepared for that then withdraw quickly.

It just seems like Miller didn’t have any intention of seeing it through.

Alastair Johnston is someone I have a lot of time and respect for as a person and in business. I admire him greatly.

When he questioned whether Miller had the capital to fund his deal then I started to wonder myself.

It’s easy to talk yourself up in business. Delivering is something else altogether.

I wrote in these pages at the weekend that Miller shouldn’t have been doing his due diligence on Rangers.

It should have been the other way around. Rangers should have been doing its due diligence on him.

Who does this supposed milti millionaire think he is ?

Lets be honest nobody wanted him anyway.

But what about Duff & Phelps on this one?

They have spent weeks considering the offers on the table before coming to the conclusion that Miller was the way forward.

Yet here we are hardly a week later with him washing his hands and walking away. I am at the end of my tether so I am.

Didn’t they check the guy out properly? Didn’t they get some guarantees he was the real deal?

It just doesn’t add up to me.

The collapse of his offer will be the best thing to happen to Rangers in the long run.

If it leads to a Scottish, traditional Gers-minded owner then I’m all for that but right now I’m more worried than I’ve ever been in my whole life.

I cant sleep at nights. I have resorted to wearing dark sleep goggles and counting Aberdeen supporters. What may come next has me in a right lather

Dave King was first to mention the L-word a few months back and it scared me then. I have to say liquidation terrifies me now.

The word newco has also been banded about for weeks now and it’s become almost accepted but what happens to 140 years of history?

Much of which I contributed to myself. So I do have a vested interest in this but my focus is on how the fans must be feeling.

I’d much prefer to see guys like Brian Kennedy and Paul Murray getting control and taking things from there and I will be contacting Duff & Phelps to tell them exactly that.

But reading between the lines I’m not so sure they have the level of funds required. It’s just a horrific situation that has, I am not ashamed to say made me cry a few times.

I have been bubbling like a wee lassie and although it is good to stay in touch with your feminine side, it is not good news overall now is it ?

I feel sorry for the Rangers fans because of all the bum steers they’ve been given for five years now.

It’s their club, and yet they are being left out in the cold while businessmen tear the place apart.

It’s just mind-boggling to think how it’s come to this.

I consider myself an easy layman and it’s impossible to keep up with it all. I have sympathy for the football writers trying to keep up with this mess.

It’s really not a simple sports story any more and that is why the Scottish sports writers are struggling. If Rangers 9 in a row captain cannot understand it what chance do they have ?

From what I’ve read it should be someone like Donald Findlay asking the questions.

Alex Salmon should appoint him as Chief inquisitor for the nation.

Can someone tell me why the irrelevant Craig Whyte is still the majority shareholder at Ibrox apart from owning the majority share holding ?

He’s got so much to answer for in all this. Others do too, right enough.

SPL supremo Neil Doncaster said earlier this week it wasn’t a shambles, but that’s exactly what it’s become. From top to bottom it’s totally and utterly shambolic.

The chairmen of the league won’t be talking about Rangers until May 30, but how does that help anyone?

This is a matter of urgency.

Ally McCoist will see a handsome squad of players walk out the dressing room door this Sunday and he doesn’t know how many — if any — of them will return again next season.

But that’s a football issue. And this whole scandal has long since not been about that.

Ex Rangers legend Ray Wilkins has been charged with drink-driving after being pulled over following a youth football awards bash.

The Sky Sports pundit, 55, was breathalysed just before 2am outside the exclusive gated development where he has a £1.5million mansion.

Former England skipper Wilkins had driven the 95 miles home to posh Cobham, Surrey, from Sandford Holiday Park in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Guests at Sunday night’s awards ceremony had taken to Twitter to complain about his drunken manner — but his agent branded their claims “untrue”.

And organiser Mark Earnshaw insisted: “I’ve heard from both my football agents who were there at the time and they found him to be a very friendly gentlemen. He reacted with the crowd really well and spent a lot of time playing with the children in the bouncy castle.”

Wilkins — who handed out medals to children — was quizzed by cops after having his DNA, mugshot and fingerprints taken. He was part of Sky Sports’ team last night for Liverpool’s 4-1 Premier League win over Chelsea where he did appear a little pale.

Wilkins played for RAngers and turned out 84 times for England, including ten appearances as captain.

He was awarded an MBE in 1993 for services to sport.

He could not be contacted for comment last night.

He was red carded in a game against Morocco in the 1986 World Cup
