This is a dead football club

899

We are five days away from the end of the season, Duff and Phelps have spent 10 weeks trying to solicit an offer for the assets of the company and the only one they were in a position to consider has now been withdrawn.

The stadium remains in Craig Whyte’s hands.

The SPL has not offered a place in the league.

The players can choose to become free agents on Sunday.

Duff and Phelps have no money to pay anyone or anything after 31 May.

Are you getting the picture?

Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later, or ‘Rangers to benefit from Miller withdrawal’ you read about tomorrow, not one piece of positive news has gone Rangers way in weeks.

This is a dead football club. If there was an accountancy term beyond liquidation, perhaps uber-liquidation, they would be uber-liquidated (there’s not, but if this gets any worse the English language will need some re-work).

Yesterday’s delay was the most complete confirmation possible, for anyone still harbouring doubt, today’s message from Miller should be no surprise to Celtic Quick News readers.

Miller’s parting shot:

“After hearing the message from Rangers supporters and fans loud and clear (“Yank go home!”), I notified the administrators today that I have withdrawn my bid for Rangers”.

…has the makings of a topic for a business doctorate, if anyone is looking for one.  I’d elaborate but reckon we’re all a little carried away at the moment for serious debate.

The histrionics since yesterday and, if you don’t mind me saying, lack of appreciation of these historic times, would dishonour teenage girls (no offense teenage girls).

Please stop with all the silliness, indignation and faux trauma.  Some football supporters have real issues to worry about.

  5. JF – James, all the share transfers, NewCo’s, punish or no punish is moot. It will not matter.

What we are going to be watching soon is several parties purchasing individual parts of the Hun carcass then trying to persuade the hordes that their part contains the black soul of the club.

Miller could have rescued them. Their vile mob nature and latent racism has torpedoed the rescue boat.

Well said Paul. Absolutely spot on.

I started a boycott of the comments pages a week ago and decided to restrict myself to reading your articles, because of the almost hysterical attacks on the Celtic board and other fellow CQNers who dared to disagree with people who quite simply wanted everything their own way, and fast, and were looking for someone to blame because it wasn’t happening, or wasn’t happening quickly enough.

Peter Lawwell is always an easy target for such immature “are we there yet?” pessimists.

“This is a dead football club.” I like that. Yes, they are finished. There is no way they will be in the SPL next season. In fact I can even see them disappearing altogether for the whole of next season the way things are panning out. I can imagine them starting up again in Division 3 for season 2013/14.

Yes, it is that serious. It could take as much as 6 months to a year, due to lengthy and complicated litigation and lack of capital and indeed a squad and a stadium, before a Newco rises from the ashes.

I see Duff & Phelps are still desperately scrambling around for a buyer even after all that has happened. Have they no dignity? No shame? Are they incapable of feeling embarrassment?

Let’s enjoy this rollercoaster ride. We’re just coming to the really exhilerating bit round the next bend.

  9. Paraphrasing from Sauron’s apprentice on Scotland Tonight, but I found this very interesting:

I was allowed access to the data room…the players contracts…but when he got his hands on the information…he found a large discrepancy between the administrators picture and the reality.

Oh dear, didn’t this sort of shenanigans land them in trouble in the first place? Have Du££ and Phelps been spinning tales re player contracts etc to potential bidders?

“Aye, Cro-Magnon Kyle is on £5k a week”

“Haud on pal, whit’s awe this here aboot him bein’ on £20k a week efter the end o’ May?”

“Erm, uh, jist roon here yu’ll see the friendship cup; it’s like the Champions League, but bigger”

“Naw it isnae, it’s a bloody Kit-kat mug ye flange.”

“Aye Bill, thir awe talkin a load o’ p!$h, we’re comin hame”

  10. James Forrest,

Whatever scenario plays out regarding RFC Newco, it will play out with RFC in some form. They will likely be in the SPL with some form of penalties to swallow, or they may end up in Division 3 if the tide is too strong for the rats to swim against.

The main event – and the one that will reverberate around the football world and will forever stain the club – will be the stripping of titles and trophies over more than a decade in the biggest scandal in British sporting history.

That is where the real punishment will come and it will be more satisfying than a brief drop into Division 3.

RFC will not disappear entirely, but they will be a shamed entity, something not even liquidation could force on them.

I shall not be disappointed, not on this one.

  11. Cheers Ernie, I trust your judgement.

    Question……

Do you believe there will be a hun playing in scotland next season ?

Given all the time factors, licencing problems to overcome.

  12. Allgreen tthinks SPL are at it on

Perhaps the reaction of the supporters of all SPL teams over the last few days made Miller “walk away”.

Daftcaster couldn’t promise Miller no sanctions as it was becoming a big noisy not going away issue.

I still think serious questions need to asked about the role played by White’s preferred administrator. Too much strange moonbeam type of stuff for a supposedly professional outfit. The have done little for the creditors but given me some laughs.

Someone is working the administrators from behind, who?

Sorry, that previous post came over a wee bit patronising, and I know you’re a far deeper thinker than I. However, I’ve found myself in all of this losing a little objectivity on occasion.

I suspect that ND isn’t as incompetent as many seem to think, you simply wouldn’t get to where he has if you were (remember he’s an outsider). However, I think he’s probably far more duplicitous and will spin things as much as possible to save his position.

Doncasters strategy is to present what Rangers have done as a normal administration/liquidation event subject which are subject to the normal rules being applied.

He completely ignores the enormity of yhe crime against footanall and yne taxpaudr

  17. Put a vulture & gorilla in Wild Bills hybrid incubator & you get a “Vulturilla”…a vicious ugly protean chimera that was the planned mascot for Newco next season…they’re sending a crackteam to downtown Nashville with silverbullets in their telescopic lenses to put it out of its misery. Ironic really.

    weeminger:

If I thought he was incompetent I would be less concerned. What he’s doing is very well thought out, very considered. He has decided that Rangers will be in the SPL come what may, and he is twisting rules, laws, language, justice and everything else he can to assure that outcome.

I draw your attention, once again, to the part that worries me most:

“Extra Contract allegation – subject to an SPL investigation which, if a prima facie case is established would then either refer it to an independent commission to investigate and decide the punishment if they are found guilty, or it would be done by the SPL Board or a sub-committee of the SPL Board.”

This is the issue everyone expects to be a hammer blow against Rangers. Indeed, when I heard Doncaster specifically promise that this issue would be dealt with by an independent commission I was encouraged.

Tonight he has laid the first brick on the road to denying this issue the scrutiny of an independent commission. Furthermore, there are only 5 people on the SPL board, and he is not even talking about letting the WHOLE SPL board debate it, but handing it to a sub-committee. How many on that? 2? 1?

The white paint is being bought in bulk. What happens next would have made Earl Warren ashamed. The writing is on the wall.

Totally agree. As I read it, he thinks that provided he speaks in terms of the black and white rules he’ll never need to give a real opinion on the real questions.

  20. Auld Neil Lennon – Lancaster would love to apply the rules, but for the eventuality at hand they don’t exist

  21. No speculation on RTC if they want to reamin in background we should respect.

In addition RM and FF probably have a contract on him/her

anyone speculated as being RTC will be a target.

  23. Auld Neil Lennon heid on

    Oops hit send in error

It is like Rangers committed murder in a state where the highest crime recognised was jaywalking for which the only punishment is a fine.

The only way this can be stopped is by general public outcry that no punishment can be decided until the full range of misdemeanours is known and no Newco can be entertained until their crimes are known

  24. Lads have any of you listened to tommyinglasgow’s calls to D&P and his latest tweets ?

Is he serious with them tweets or am i losing the plot.

  25. James Forrest,

One other small point to note regarding the improper registration of players….

…this is when Celtic will aim them, load them and fire them. All guns will blaze from Celtic on this when the expected judgement is delivered by HMRC. There will be no acceptance of a fudge-job on this subject.

This will be the main event. They may squirm some kind of solution from the mess of insolvency and liquidation, but there will be no compromise where improper registration is concerned.

Take your seats and lets get ready to rrrrrrrrrrrrruummblllllllleeeeeeeeeee!!!!

One of the great things about Bill Miller is that he forced the SPL, or their Chief Executive at least, to show their hand. Not just a rule changer, a game changer. And that is usually the referees job. There is no way back from that, not for the SPL Board anyways, though there is a route back for the member clubs themselves, assuming the May 30 meeting still goes ahead that is.
