This is the point of Celtic

448

It has been two weeks since Celtic Park’s last outing as a football venue.  From this week, it becomes a socially=distanced dinning location for around 250 people, including frontline NHS staff.  The Celtic FC Foundation’s initial response is to provide £150k to stock local foodbanks and support charity partners in their efforts to cater for out most needy in this time.

For the time being, Celtic is no longer a football club; it is a source for good to a community that needs it, just as it was in 1888, when the first ball was kicked.  No other club is Britain has responded with the same resources or vision, but no other club has our heritage.

Today, most of us are concerned about our immediate families and there is nothing wrong with this.  But some people are ‘out there’ in our name.  There may be little you can do for this effort today, but we will have the opportunity soon enough.  Be proud of your club and know that, as Celtic fans, we have a social responsibility, otherwise, what’s the point?

You need to give it a rest with the anti Chinese bs. You are in danger of coming across as a Trumpette and I don’t think anybody would want that.

  4. Last week I posted about Hydroxychloroquine and the following link is a balanced one about its use in a non controlled pilot.

A wee highlight if the link doesn’t work

    What researchers have found

Scientists in France, led by Didier Raoult, MD, PhD, conducted a small, preliminary study, which was published on March 20 in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, involving 36 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these people, 14 received hydroxychloroquine, six received hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin, while the remaining 16 patients received traditional supportive care.

Five days after treatment, 13 of the patients, or 65 percent of those who took only hydroxychloroquine were negative for the virus. All six of the patients who received the dual treatment had cleared the virus, suggesting that when combined with azithromycin, the benefits of hydroxychloroquine are even greater. The researchers noted that just three of the 16 control patients who received standard supportive care were no longer infected.

Azithromycin is used to cover the possibility of a second infection, or superinfection, but the drug could also have some antiviral effects as well, the researchers pointed out.

“Our preliminary results also suggest a synergistic effect of the combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin,” the study’s authors wrote, noting that azithromycin has been shown to be active in lab tests against Zika and Ebola viruses and to help prevent severe respiratory tract infections among patients with viral infections. The researchers noted, however, that more investigation into the effectiveness of the drug combination is needed, particularly among severe cases of COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) noted that hydroxychloroquine and the combined hydroxychloroquine-azithromycin therapy reduced detection of COVID-19 compared to the control group, but the study did not assess the clinical benefit of these treatments, or how they affected patients’ symptoms, wellbeing and overall outcomes.

Aside from its small sample size, this French study has other limitations, including limited long-term outcome follow-up.

Their findings, however, are supported by Chinese researchers who used lab tests to show that hydroxychloroquine may help prevent the novel coronavirus from entering cells.

Based on this limited evidence, chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine are currently being used to treat hospitalized COVID-19 patients on an uncontrolled basis in several countries, including the United States, the CDC reports.

The fact that hydroxychloroquine (brand name, Plaquenil), is an off-the-shelf drug is another potential win. The drug has already been tested and FDA-approved for use against malaria and to treat certain inflammatory conditions. Not only do doctors understand the drug well, but there is a relatively cheap, generic version available.

I agree 100% about ST sales. At this time it must be a low priority for the majority. A deposit to hold the ticket sounds the ideal and practical fix.

    Greenpinata,

Should they be considering how they are going to repay for games not played last season?

No mention of that I see, they increase the prices on the back of owing refunds from last season, will they use the refund amounts as offset deduction of new season ticket.

I suspect not, the unfinished season will be put down as force majeure and you’ll lump it, and you’ll swallow the risk of same next season.

The Plc should be getting their policy right here, I was wondering about the claim about the Celtic foundation being somehow part of the club which is not the case, the foundation is a completely separate entity from the club which must operate as self financing. The club only make donations like everybody else. So while the club supports the foundation and the executives have members in common all the good work it generates and achieves is the result of the Celtic Foundation board not the Celtic Plc as it is portrayed and claimed.

Unfortunately the foundation cannot be part of the club as the Plc deliberately distanced themselves when they decided it was another organisation all together.

  7. Canamalar,

Of course if you want to find fault with Celtic it’s easy, and Paul 67’s blog give you the very vehicle to express your views.

Personally I am not looking for any refund for season 19/20. As you are aware it’s outwith Celtic’s control, just like the curfew in Kuwait is outwith your control: Yet you choose to be there.

As for next season, well frankly there are more important things presently.

    Stay safe and HH.

Got to say Big G is right about the treatment of Dr Li Wenliang.

An Ophthalmologist (eye specialist) who shared his concerns with colleagues in December.

He was not a whistleblower as being portrayed he was a concerned medical practitioner sharing his concerns with a limited number of colleagues privately. Some of whose it is believed took it upon themselves to share the info to their own circles which then spread exponentially.

What then happened to the initial group of 8 was disgraceful.

Here is a take on it you won’t likely hear in the west, the hospitals infectious diseases team were already working on it and had advised the authorities on a containment strategy that needed to locate the ground zero, spreading the information would have caused panic in the public, potentially uncontrollably dispersing them as they distance themselves from the epicentre.

The bit that gets me is why was it an ophthalmologist and not a respiratory or a specialist infectious disease team, are we to believe they are all communist drones who did not care about the impact a more virulent SARS like disease would have on their kith and kin?

I’m pretty sure the specialists knew exactly the potential impact and transmission rate of the infection, a 1000 bed hospital built in 10 days? from scratch, zero planning they just threw up a state of the art hospital in a few days, lucky they had all that equipment and material lying around eh. Started 25 days after Dr Li Wanliang’s initial post on Dec 30th.

Opened its doors on 3rd of Feb. Looks to me like something might have been going on most likely going on that exposure before they were ready would have threatened. There’s a lot of logistical planning needed to prepare for a pandemic in a country of 1 billion people. And when they flicked the switch it happened overnight and apparently everyone knew what was to happen, that’s not down to luck.

  15. MELBOURNE MICK…

Thanks mate for your kind thoughts and words. Please pass on my best wishes to Paddy.

    ………….

I am now entering my 7th day of Self Isolation and to be honest I am finding it easier than most folk due to my ongoing health issues anyway, as I am not well enough to go out ( especially to a Pub IF they were still open ?).

However, I ordered my usual Food Home Delivery from Tesco 8 Days ago and due to arrive this lunch time, but my Food Order has been seriously lessened, due to goods NOT being available and I am unsure what exactly they will deliver Today ?

I have heard Minsters on TV etc, say that there is no need for Panic Buying, as there is plenty of food to go round, so why is it that 8 Days AFTER I placed my order Online…that there are shortages….?

I realise that I am not alone with this food problem, but I will no doubt be forced to go out Today and try and get some more food from local shops, including visiting my local Pet Shop as it appears that the usual cat Liter that I buy Online from Tescos, is also NOT available ?

Are folk Panic Buying Cat Litter ?

Does anyone know if Pet Shops are Open or are they now forced to close ?

So at the same time I am being told to stay at home and Self Isolate, I am FORCED to go out to local shops and therefore put myself and others at possible risk ?

You couldnt make this up !

  17. Good morning, friends.

Why does the UK insist on trying to be different to anywhere else in all of this – lockdown but with one of the relaxations being one routine of ‘exercise’ a day, be that a walk, run or cycle. That just puts the responsibility back onto the conscience of the individual.

Some of you may know that I like to run a few times each week. Not too far, normally 25 – 30 minutes at a time. I’m allowed to do that today. And as I live near the outskirts of town I can choose a route that has little likelihood of me passing anyone else. And as I understand that I can’t catch the virus just through the air then providing I don’t come into direct contact with anyone else or stop to hug a lamppost then my run should in theory do me more good than harm. However, I still think this particular option is ill thought out as it is far too vague – you could go for your one walk but that walk could be for 4 hours? Is that better or worse than 1 half hour morning walk and a half hour evening run?

Just putting this out for debate. I’m about to ‘work from home’ so any exercise that I do will be this evening anyway.

  18. Mike Ashley: As top of the tree : What can you say about this man. ?

Our NHS and its staff are the heartbeat of this country. Its most valued and cherished institution. Of that we are all agreed.

But what about the unsung key workers in the front line who are performing daily for little financial reward. ?

I really think that when we are over this our society will think differently, and not before time.

I have soooooooo much admiration and respect for our cleaners, supermarket staff, delivery drivers etc. I hope and trust that appropriate financial rewards will follow their well earned respect and gratitudes.

    HH to all.

  19. Canamalar,

    Sincere condolences.

So very sorry to hear your devastating news. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I really appreciate how difficult it must be when you are so far away in such challenging times.

    RIP.
