Salzburg got back to winning ways on Sunday after losing 4-1 away to third-placed Rheindorf Altach immediately before the international break. The stats from that game are interesting. Salzburg enjoyed 60% possession but Rheindorf forced 66% more chances by playing on the break, scoring twice in the closing 10 minutes as Salzburg pushed for an equaliser.
A point on Thursday would be an acceptable result for Salzburg so they could be caught between trying to defend and playing their normal game. Either way it’s likely they will hold possession for long periods.
No team is completely dependent on one player but this truism is probably tested more by Salzburg and their talismanic striker, Jonathan Soriano, who has scored 26 times in 27 outings this season. Consider for a moment if we had such a prodigious striker………..
Salzburg coach Adolf Hutter must decide how far tp change his usual game plan. Salzburg’s entire strategy is to attack. They have scored 50 league goals already this season, twice as many as any other team, while their goals against record is within a handful of the majority of teams in the league.
My preference would be to tempt them out, have them fall between the two stools of playing their natural offensive game and the more cautious approach they may be tempted to play away in Europe. One note of caution, the Ajax team who beat Celtic comfortably in Amsterdam last season were shredded 0-3 by a counter-attacking Salzburg in the same venue a few months later.
Ajax failed to box clever, we can be smarter. Stop Soriano, closed-down space at the back and play on the counter.

Marrakesh Express –
Yes. If only he had really made that statement.
Cheers Phyllis..
Weet weet; any chance you could run for PM? best thing I have read in a long time.
Who would have thought that it would be better to spend time in jail than in a nursing home.
Maribor 3-1 behind, 20 minutes left. Looks like they are out of Champions League. Will need to win their last game at home to Schalke to stay in Europa. Would fancy another crack off them.

Weet is just looking after himself….not long till he’s in retirement home…typical self serving politician. :O)

Man city to win, both teams to score, 4/1, easy money :)
Just catchiong up with today’s posts in this and the previous thread.
Ekeren was my favourite trip, great night in Brussels before travelling to Antwerp the day of the game. Overnight sleeper from Central, met the Pinner posse at Euston then travelled to Victoria and onto Dover.
Ekeren later changed their name to Germinal and that’s who we signed Victor from.
Vienna for the first Rapid game started out all right but during and after the game was a nightmare especially those who went over on the bus.As Frantic will confirm, they had to run the gauntlet to get to buses which were about half a mile from the stadium.

Vouge we will all be there soon, old that is hopefully not jail. Well maybe jail time for politicians best place for them it seems.
Phyllis Dietrichson……….Just back in from Goodison myself, totally agree with your take.
It was a breeze for 80 mins, we looked better than Everton in every area of the park, then they scored a breakaway from a mistake with about 7-8 mins to go. Hung on a bit in the end.
Phyllis, how did Joe Thompson play tonight?

Dortmund away in 88 was my scariest ever away. Thanks to the British army stationed nearby. Mental, thankfully I was with 2 amateur boxers fae Temple. ;))
I’ve just read Bomber’ s comments, he complains about the experienced international players being well paid to put in poor performances, and then says poor Ally has it tough because the board aren’t backing him financially like they did souness and Smith. And no hint of irony, not to mention mixing up his clubs.
DD…. They are all boxers fae Temple… :)
TET- ffs :(

If big G no back from his mammy’s I may have to pay a visit to club( In the cloooob)
Delaney’s, I used to drink in Heraghty’s a lot in the mid eighties and travelled on Bif’s bus to Dortmund rather than go with our bus.
Late September 1987 and I think Owen Archdeacon played up front that night.
There were troops from an Army band in the gantry above and were all going daft when Dortmund got their two goals. I can see where you are coming from about antagonistic British soldiers.
There were four of us over and we all had the worst hangovers after a ten hour shift the day and night before.
Bremen the following year was another great trip with a guy who helped with the Celts for Change group running up a tab in team’s hotel at Celtic’s expense.

=============================
He played really well (they all did), subbed on the hour.
Delaney’s, one of the first bars we went into the wummin behind the bar shouted Englander verboten and we replied we’re no English but she still wouldn’t serve us.
I’m assuming squaddies had caused bother in there previously.
Boabby Prytz played for Bayer Urdigen(spelling) the night before our game. Some pals of ours went to the game. When Prytz came over to take a shy just in front of them, they shouted Prytz ya horrible wee hun so and so, yer still sh***
Cheers BT.
