Time on the bench gave Hooper space

1040

This season, Gary Hooper has looked well below form of last term; his touch, movement and goals record don’t match up, but he came off the bench on Thursday to score a truly excellent goal.  Controlling a difficult ball in the centre circle, with defenders in close attendance, he picked out Giorgios Samaras before sprinting past his markers and finishing.

The winner against Motherwell was less spectacular but required sharp movement and spatial awareness.

Footballers cannot always play through bad form, sometimes they need a break, even for an hour on the bench, to get a different perspective on how they and the team play.

Despite his return to form I would retain the same 4-2-3-1 formation against Inverness next time out.

Issue 4 of CQN Magazine is out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

  1. Regarding the phil article

    1. Our Ceo Salary is dependent on financial resuts, ie keeping the debt as low as possible ( nothing to do with on the park sucess)

    2. He lied to the fans when he used half of Mcgeadys money to make sure he met is KPI’s by paying 5m towards remvoving our debt

    3. If the Huns went to divison 3, then i am sure SKy have made it clear that TV money would drop and reduce our income and increase our Debt

    4. Therefore do you really beliieve that peter lawell has the fans interests at heart, of course not, he wants to protect his salary

    5. The way our CEO pay is structured makes it so, and if 99% of us out there were given these KPI’s, they to would forget fans/Sucess and focus on putting money in their own bank account

pps as i said 4 2 3 1 is played by teams like Kilmarnock, St Mirren etc as they dont have good enough strikers or defenders,

we seem to have sunk this low now, as paul67 said, “get used to it”

Point 5 above makes it all so :((

In my opinion, a potential Celtic FC position and subsequent ‘vote’ taken by any authority on any new hun club being parachuted into the SPL is a matter for all Celtic shareholders in a special general meeting.

The board is, rightly, charged with running the club day-to-day, that’s what they are paid to do, but this matter of hun insolvency is too important to be left only to the executives. I for one would be very annoyed if my rights as a shareholder in the company did not afford me the chance to hear and speak about all that has happened in this matter and what it means for Celtic.

  7. Eyes Wide Open

Before I head to my scratcher…

Can I just bring something back in to peoples minds they might have forgotten.

There were reports from certain people close to certain clubs in the run up to the title at the end of last season.

Players of these clubs said they would not try against der hun because they feared for their own safety (after what had happened to Neil, Paddy, Nail, etc- death threats).

Rangers didn´t so much as hit a rich vein, rather players stopped playong properly against them.

Defences ran around like headless chickens.

Attackers just ran to the corner flags with the ball and half tried to win throw-ins instead of crossing.

If you were a player of one of those teams and scored a goal that, let´s say, stopped der hun winning the title, would you feel safe?

    Would your family feel safe?

Or would you be getting someone else to open your mail?

I know what I would be thinking standing on the pitch facing “them”.

I´d be thinking of my girlfriend and kids, me.

I hate them and their fecked support more after typing that.

    Away for a shower.

    Good night lads.

Could you imagine someone like Phil being on the board – he would terrify the lives out of every one of them.

The fact he would terrify any is a very large part of the problem.

Are fans like Phil the enemy, do they want to harm the club, do they want to lead the club into oblivion, are they so financially inept they would misunderstand everything, are theyre intentions dishonourable…

Its all that is wrong with Celtic PLC.

They dont trust us. They take us for granted yet see us as their only cash cow.

7 short months ago the club was as close to being ‘together’ as it had in years.

Where were the follow up ‘open’ meetings chaired at different venues across Scotland and Ireland? Where was the interaction with the ‘people’ then.

The open air meetings have been proved as a farce enacted only in desparation, not out of will.

I am a firm believer in the Field of Dreams ‘if you build it they will come’ in the sense of doing something ‘because it was the right thing to do’

If they led that way, Celtic Park would be full every other week.

  9. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!! Tick Tock !! on

Let’s please stop speculating on what the Board should / should not / better/ better not do …

Our Board feel the same way as we do, and they know how we feel about any vote, and they also know how we feel about what action must be taken in the event of any skulduggery……

We are only giving the media ammunition to further promote their anti-Celtic agenda

Just as they are ‘leading’ us through this recession, they will be monitoring progress on THE issue in the background…….

and wasn’t that a good strategy of building up the squad…….coincidence?…with all the scandalous injuries…!!!

Might not be a popular observation with some, but if we had given WGS our FULL support, as the Board did, rankers would have been out of business 3 years ago….!!!?………so, let’s trust our Board until something actually happens …….they know how we feel about all this, and what decisions / direction CFC must take……..REMEMBER THE COFFIN….!!!!!

A colleague at work got “crushed” between a fork truck and a brick wall and although everyone could see there was nothing wrong with him (he made Dot Cotton look hard), ambluances were called and he was rushed to A&E, only to return several hours later with an all clear.

“How did it go Jim?”, we all asked, fake concerned…

“Oh, well, they gave me a brain scan but they didn’t find anything!”

“LOL! We didn’t need a brain scan to tell us you had nothing in there!!” we laughed and laughed and laughed!

    You are mental!

    Point 2

We have a revolving facility, so ALL money in reduces net debt. What you are saying is that we spent £5m of the McGeady money pretty soon after we received it.

    Points 3,4 and 5

If rangers go to Div 3, it will guarantee us AT LEAST 3-4 years of Champions League money at circa £15m per year. The reduction in the £2.5m max we get from Sky will therefore mean nothing.

Just think about it rationally for a change please

“do they want to harm the club, do they want to lead the club into oblivion, are they so financially inept they would misunderstand everything, are theyre intentions dishonourable” thats nearly as crazy as talking about “phil” being on the board.

  19. Prediction time.

First week of 2012/2013 season. Rangers have been in admin. Craig Whyte’s backers, currently unnamed, have put more money in to the club, they may even have mortgaged the ground, downsized and possibly be a middle of the table prospect. So no newco, just a few years of ignomy and loss of bragging rights.

Celtic, having won the league have a choice to either try and stay one step ahead of the pack or revolutionise the approach and go for some return to European status.

The likelihood with no obvious route into a new competition, is that we go for the first option. We go backwards towards the pack.

Attendances will increase as competition increases; just possibly this could be the saviour of Scottish football. What an ironic scenario.

The seeds of a Scottish revival are planted as a result of Murray’s mess ups and fifteen years later in 2027, Albion Rovers win the inaugural European League of Champions played at the 140,000 capacity megadome, home to league runners up Partick Thistle!

  29. ‘fan representation on the board’. Great Idea on the surface. Never work in a plc with collective responsibility. The fan becomes assimilated and has no authority. If he or she becomes a threat to the confidential commercial workings of the club, guess what happens.

As long as we are a PLC it is a pointless aspiration.
