Time on the bench gave Hooper space

1040

This season, Gary Hooper has looked well below form of last term; his touch, movement and goals record don’t match up, but he came off the bench on Thursday to score a truly excellent goal.  Controlling a difficult ball in the centre circle, with defenders in close attendance, he picked out Giorgios Samaras before sprinting past his markers and finishing.

The winner against Motherwell was less spectacular but required sharp movement and spatial awareness.

Footballers cannot always play through bad form, sometimes they need a break, even for an hour on the bench, to get a different perspective on how they and the team play.

Despite his return to form I would retain the same 4-2-3-1 formation against Inverness next time out.

Issue 4 of CQN Magazine is out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

What I am saying is that this is likely to go beyond anything that the SPL or SFA wishes.

The SFA or the “establishment” or the “blazers” of old may well incurr the wrath of EUFA and indeed other bodies if they do not do the right thing. Scotlands association– who provided EUFA with Roxburgh,Taylor and other high ranking officials cannot be seen to be making a horse’s arse of this for the sake of Rangers.

The wrong type of decision may set a precedent for other clubs outwith Scotland and the blazers will not want their passport to Eufa cancelled. Remember that Brian Quinn was seconded onto the financial fair play committees of EUFA and Platini was elected on a financial fair play mandate.

However, even in this country, this may be seen as more than a footballing matter and if it is that serious then the football authorities cannot really afford to sit in a Pontius Pilate fashion

I’m only going with the articles he has put on his site m8 they have always been spot on but that doesn’t mean he has wen’t through life never being wrong maybe i should have explained it better sorry.

  3. The thing i can’t get my head round is why is it when phil posted on his site about dallas and the taxcase or anything negative towards huns we all believed it but when it’s something about our club we? it.

  4. I haven’t written on the blog much but its been a good read tonight – well done bhoys!

My feeling is that the huns will get away with this one way or another and its highly unlikely that they will spend any time outside the SPL.

The insolvency might not happen. It does seem likely though.

If it does, whether its the SPL’s or the SFA’s decision, I fear that the other clubs will support Rangers staying in the top league. Many of them will think that its in their financial interests to keep the huns up and the SFA has shown little interest in fair play over the years when its the interests of Celtic that have mainly been disadvantaged.

If the SFA/ SPL don’t allow Rangers to stay in the SPL, they would have the option of buying a struggling team that is already in the SPL and stealing their place. Hearts is already for sale and there are stories of other clubs struggling. The cost of buying another SPL club could be a lot less than the financial impact of starting again in division 3. If Craig Whyte (and his wealthy backers if he has any) were prepared to put down the £18m they already have done and can use the value of the secured debt that this bought to acquire the stadium etc then I expect that they would be willing to secure their investment by spending a relatively small amount more on buying another club. In this case it could be the supporters of Hearts/ Motherwell/ Kilmarnock/ etc who would suffer most.

Under a plc regime I agree with the futility of a ‘fan on the board’. I doubt if I could have made that much clearer.

However it is a leap too far for me to agree with the motherhood and apple pie of……

‘a grown up plc which is what we have to aspire to has directors who bring something to the business, expertise that adds to the company. a smooth running board is an absolute must for a company like celtic’.

I believe that a PLC is the worst mechanism to run a football club/team and most certainly the least conducive to adress the fundamental objectives of the fans and the culture (mythical or otherwise) of a club such as Celtic. This applies equally to all other teams most of whose owners would be delighted to have the fans buy them out.

In the case of Celtic and a few others this motive is relatively absent because the positions the major shareholders occupy gives them egotistical power, status, authority in a community sense that none of their business dealings can rival. They understand commercial shenanigans but don’t understand sport, football or the ties that bind.

In this day and age of transparency and accountability they will fail. On a smaller scale than say the European and Arab risings, but nevertheless their continued treatment of Celtic as a fiefdom and the fans as peasants will come to an end.

Comrades, are you with me?? :-)

I cannot pass by without commenting on your post.

Mailer’s “The fight” is a great read and a great insight into the mind of ALI in the lead up to his meeting with Big Bad George. In particular, Ali’s revelation on the night before the fight that it would be his eyes that would win the fight for him and not his legs makes for fascinating reading and thought. To explain that you cannot– or at least not likely to— be knocked out if you can see the punch coming and brace yourself explains a great deal of the man’s scientific approach to the pugilist art.

To then go on and proclaim that ” George can’t punch!” when all the evidence points to the very opposite was also illuminating. His revelation that Big George had to gulp in huge breaths of air to be able to release the power from his massive frame had never before been noticed. Ali’s solution of hitting him with straight right hands when ever he went to breathe in was little commented upon in comparison to the Rope a Dope lying on the rings. Yet it is very much a feature of the fight and is mentioned with surprise in commentary– of course it is also one of the most insulting things for a boxer to do to another as the punch has to travel further then any other (unless a south paw ) and it fair annoyed the now ever so smiley George!

Anyway, best wishes with your boxing research and viewing as there is many a good old fight on You Tube

I am still in a place where I couldn’t give a toss what happens to them, albeit , it could be very amusing.

For me , if we do our stuff, they are irrelevant.

The only thing I think we should consider is , could we use all the inevitable infighting, politics, negotiation and handshakes to legitimately work a Bosman and get ourselves out of the SPL ?

    This is just for you.

I live part of my time in the beautiful city of Granada where I have a home ( although Glasgow is my spiritual home )and the rest of the time in London.

i attended a recent cultural event in Granada where I met a yound man who excelled in sculpture.I talked football with him in my heavily accented Spanish. That means, for clarity,Spanish with a Scottish accent. Now the interesting part. When St Mary’s hall was demolished,I removed a small stone from the site and took it to Granada and have held on to it till recently.Anyway,as mentioned in a previous post my Mum ( a lifelong Celtic supporter, shareholder and season ticket holder ) died in August this year aged 91.I gave my young sculpture friend my Mum’s season ticket renewal request with the club crest on it and he has carved the four-leaf clover onto that stone.I have just received an email from Spain tonight advising that a picture of that St Mary’s stone-from the hall were the first meeting to propose the formation of Celtic to feed the poor and the needy was held on 5th November 1887-will be sent over later tonight.

Great things I wish for Glasgow Celtic football Club.

I went back to read what exactly Phil is claiming.

And, you know, it is so vague that he may be right and it is just that we have been filling in the spaces to come up with a “truth” that he never uttered.

His central point is stated ” Yes, there will be a 10 point penalty but that is all there will be and Celtic, at the highest level, are ok with this”

Now let’s say that, next week, rangers go into administration and get an immediate 10 point penalty but they attempt to struggle on and continue to battle for the SPL title whilst in administration. Could Celtic, at that particular point in time, actually demand more than a 10 point penalty?

I think that, until the Tax verdict comes in, and Rangers future is clearer, we cannot demand any more than the application of the rules i.e. 10 points.

However, once the tax verdict sinks them, and they admit they cannot trade out of administration, then all bets are off.

I think we could be arguing a false premise here.

What our Board would do in the event of an admin event

    versus

What our Board would do in the event of liquidation or a judgement on illegal behaviour.

    Just a thought.

  20. BRTH, I agree, Mailer’s book makes me want to know more about boxing.

I have come to the sport late but I’m enjoying backtracking.

My old da put me off during my teens when as a lifelong fan he turned away from the sport after watching Eubank and Watson.

Either headguards came in or he couldn’t watch. A short lived hiatus though, he watches now !

Psychologically and scientifically, Ali was so far ahead of everyone.

Is there a precedent anywhere in world football of a club going bust, and coming back under another name to the same league…!!……..bad enough if a club goes burst legally……if found guilty, the book will have to be thrown at them
