Time on the bench gave Hooper space

1040

This season, Gary Hooper has looked well below form of last term; his touch, movement and goals record don’t match up, but he came off the bench on Thursday to score a truly excellent goal.  Controlling a difficult ball in the centre circle, with defenders in close attendance, he picked out Giorgios Samaras before sprinting past his markers and finishing.

The winner against Motherwell was less spectacular but required sharp movement and spatial awareness.

Footballers cannot always play through bad form, sometimes they need a break, even for an hour on the bench, to get a different perspective on how they and the team play.

Despite his return to form I would retain the same 4-2-3-1 formation against Inverness next time out.

Issue 4 of CQN Magazine is out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Sorry for not making myself clearer. I wasn’t saying that as a club we should aspire tO be run by a or as a Plc, rather that if we are a Plc we need to make sure we are the best Plc we can be.

Spin is the new name what GOEBBELS done 70 years ago, if enough people say it, you actually believe it

The celtic View of the 70’s 80’s 90’s was a classic example

I know many people in Executive club who hear how the spin is put out, and CQN via Plants is one of them

Tommy Joad : there are fleeting periods in that Hagler v Leonard fight when they really go toe to toe and the boxing is quite simply sublime. It went against the grain for Sugar Ray to try and outfight Marvin Hagler, as he knew that Hagler would take him out, so he just kept moving and scoring points with jabs and combinations against probably the most ruthless, efficient boxer that ever entered the ring.

I went into the fight a fan of Sugar, but that’s not the way I felt after it, as Marvellous Marvin tried time after time to take the battle to Leonard.

If you haven’t seen the full fight, then I won’t spoil it for you, but the sport lost an absolute legend after that fight.

    Enjoy!

Glad you enjoyed it and I’d agree that after a lot of these courses there’s a desire to get your hands dirty and implement it on the training ground.

I got fed up with the supercilious attitude of some of the instructors. So I found a website outlining the techniques used abroad, particularly Holland.

I found that the were more enjoyable and more beneficial.

I done a 1st aid course in 1994, I was drunk at the time but remember the kissing bit, so if you want I’ll be the first aider. My only stipulation is I get to practice the kissing bit each game, preferably on a female, but not necessary ;-)

I think the SFA courses are generally quite good quality, but agree it can be quite dogmatic and I definitely don’t buy it hook, line and sinker..

It still feels a bit like catch up as they keep reflecting on Spanish and Dutch ideas..

One thing they are really unclear on is 1v1 and passing game…personally see 1v1 as a last option, whereas they are pushing it quite hard, and I see it as counter to a posession game – which seems to be the secret of Barca success right now.

Tell you what though, a great job but suspect it pays poorly..

It is good just to get some fresh ideas for my own training..

Did you go beyond level 3?

  16. Not trying to belittle such a serious subject but how do you know when a plant is bored?

Does it go all quiet and refuse to get up in the morning, only surfacing at 2.00 pm to watch daytime tv and eat frosties still in its pj’s?

Seriously is there nothing we can do for these bored plants.

    Glad you liked it.

If you get a good SFA tutor, they will take the time to explain how to use the stuff to best advantage with a bunch of truculent teenagers who get bored with hearing the same voice all the time.

I had the benefit of Jim Chapman, former boss of Albion Rovers and Dumbarton, and Tommy McIntyre, who is now at Celtic. I rated both as good teachers but my kids also got indoor coaching for £1 per 90 minute session from both Eddie Hunter (ex QP manager) and Willie Pettigrew, available through the SFA. It was fun to see Eddie struggling to remember not to swear but what a good coach he was.

One of the difficult bits in this country is attracting ex-players to coach the older boys unless they get paid for it.

Amateurs like myself were good enough for their development up to early teens level but after that they need more credible coaches.

Almost every small town in Holland and Germany has a full sized pitch available to kid’s teams and have multi-age level teams run by ex-pros or semi-pros overseeing the work of amateurs.

  19. Glad to Celtic come out with an unequivocal dismissal of the damaging rumours that were circulating earlier. Wish they put it on the official site though. I personally don’t buy the conspiracy theories. It would be suicidal for the board to help Rangers out in such a way.

Still, I think it’s important Celtic fans make their feelings known. We can help allow a partisan media skew the situation.

  20. BTW See the guy in the tinfoil hat and yellow jumpsuit, I think I know him. He is a dead ringer for my old mate from Lurgan “Peaches”, its a long story about the name so you can stop those thoughts right now, hope its not him to be honest.
