Time to pair Lustig and VVD in central defence

2168

This afternoon’s friendly against Tottenham Hotspur gives Ronny Deila a dilemma.  Last weekend he played a second string against St Pauli, but with things going so wrong in Warsaw on Wednesday, the pressure is on to pull a game plan together which will work at Murrayfield.

Our other concern is that the squad, without Ambrose, Brown and Forrest, is already looking threadbare.  We simply can’t afford an injury to afflict Commons, Griffiths, Stokes, Johansen, van Dijk, Matthews, Lustig or Izaguirre.

The suggestion was put to me this week that we should play Lustig with van Dijk in central defence on Wednesday.  Lustig can play there, but would Ronny trust them on such an important occasion without a warm-up game?

If I was taking a risk with first-team players this afternoon it would be to pair these two.  If we’re going to get the required result on Wednesday the most important area of the team to get right is the defence.

  1. Spurs will think they are a great team now. Don’t think they’ll finish in the top four in the EPL.

  2. After a good pre_season we had Legia and now this embarrassing to anyone with a bit of pride in their club.

Agreed Squire would like to see those 2 fight again both excellent boxers

  4. I do not care if it was the youths or second string or it was “only” a try out for whatever reason, this is a humiliation for people like my son living and working in London.

The game was billed as Celtic without any qualification, and will be quoted as such.

Nice walkway Peter you’ll soon be able to see every slab, every week.

Well what did we learn today ? Ambrose before he was ordered off gave away a penalty and passed to a Spurs player during the game nine times before he was shown red. This guy surely must go he is never Celtic class.I cant see the youngsters learning much from the game which certainly wont have enhanced our reputation whatsoever.Craig Gordon couldnt have done much about any of the goals the game was a complete miss match. H.H.

I have a lot of pride in my club and i am not in the slightest embarrassed. I wasn’t crowing when our youth beat Liverpool last year either.

Feel sorry for Efe who was actually trying to lead these youngsters by example and, though he made mistakes, their pen. award was a joke and his sending off was harsh too.

I’m off to watch the CGs and will leave the site to those who want to put the boot in and feel bad

Very good point rest assured talk sport presenters will harp back to it numerous times over the coming years

Tell your son to ask the Spurs & Arsenal fans why they have no star above their crest – that’s what my kids do !!! Normally shuts them up

Alternatively, some people see it for what it is. A bunch of boys well beaten by a much stronger Spurs team.

I know none of them will will attempt to gloat about it. No one gives a feck.

  13. What a brilliant interview from wee Charlie Flynn.

Does the writer of this article not read the papers,or football pages of the net

almost all the first team are staying at home only Pukki and balde are in the squad

and weve just been humped 6-1 by a full strength spurs squad,

At least it should shut up all those wanting us to play the youngsters,as I have known since the 90,s most scottish players are second rate, and we were always better with good foreigners ,just name me one great scottish player to play for us since possibly Lambert, all our stars have been foreign and thats the only way forward, until scottish youth get off the bevvy, and take sport seriously, and Balde sent off for second game in a row, funny not sdent off at all till this new diddy management team arrives, last season we were very good defensivley and now were a siv

Changes at the top needed now, someone on the board must own up weve made a big mistake and get rid the disarterouS duo ASAP

Those of a permanent positive persuasion….

You’ll do well to find anything positive from that nonsense

Did we make a pound from it ….job done then

A few pound up and our reputation dismissed further …EPL fans won’t know it was a scratch team …they’ll look at Wednesday and today and wonder why CFC have fallen so far

CFC …a shambles unless youre an accountant

  21. No one anywhere with any sense cares what other teams are getting up to in preseason.

The players will go away and think about what went well and what wasn’t so good. They’ll ask themselves if they could have done some things differently to prevent Spurs’ attacks, and they’ll work on those things in training and in future games.

If you never come across technically superior players who move the ball around quickly then you’ll never know that some of the thingsthat you’re doing are dangerous.

That doesn’t just apply to the youngsters. It’s a problem for our senior players too, who are mostly good players but don’t get tested enough at the highest level.

  22. Steinreignedsupreme on

Should have said. I hang about with a lot of Tottenham fans, and I know none of them will will attempt to gloat about it. No one gives a feck.
