Time to pair Lustig and VVD in central defence

2168

This afternoon’s friendly against Tottenham Hotspur gives Ronny Deila a dilemma.  Last weekend he played a second string against St Pauli, but with things going so wrong in Warsaw on Wednesday, the pressure is on to pull a game plan together which will work at Murrayfield.

Our other concern is that the squad, without Ambrose, Brown and Forrest, is already looking threadbare.  We simply can’t afford an injury to afflict Commons, Griffiths, Stokes, Johansen, van Dijk, Matthews, Lustig or Izaguirre.

The suggestion was put to me this week that we should play Lustig with van Dijk in central defence on Wednesday.  Lustig can play there, but would Ronny trust them on such an important occasion without a warm-up game?

If I was taking a risk with first-team players this afternoon it would be to pair these two.  If we’re going to get the required result on Wednesday the most important area of the team to get right is the defence.

Zbyszek- they would be better getting hotel or b&b further down railway line from Glasgow or over the river in fife – hh

Possibly cause you didn’t cite any, other than the Morton defeat ?

“Several of the games against Aberdeen last season. That Morton game. Couple of the games again St. Johnstone. At least one of the games against Motherwell.

Forster saved his blushed on several occasions”.

He does head the ball peculiarly and often puts us under pressure with the uncertain destinations.

Just a quick note to inform you that Kylie could sing like a seagull in a blender and i wouldnt give a feck

    Hope that helps

    Delaney.

Strummer was a rich boy. Fact.

He promoted revolution to the plebs. They ignored him. Fact.

Most importantly, their music was hopelessly conservative. Fact. They couldn’t entertain vibrant and innovative electronic music for example.

Last word to your good self.

Bada – don’t mind taking the money and running but we need to replace him with another good player – not another project hh- or a guy that has only played 10 mins since jan !!

And I do sincerely hope begret makes it for us

  7. chrisvancoupon- totally agree mate , we lack the ability to “deal” with his type if you know what I mean.I would say he has been unavailable for about 50% of games since he signed HH

  8. CVC, the hardest thing to defend is variety.

James is good, and may become great, potential is there.

Raberto67, Broonie is best at RM in a 433, never a centre mid.

He has improved in that position, but we have better.

Frnakly, Efe in the defensive mid position would work.

JF doesn’t lack heart, he has enough sense to get out of the way of cluggers ala Lapsley.

    All opinion.

  9. Is this no magic? Talking about players and the team?

THIS is the CQN I wanted to be part of!

Only took about 11 hours to get here!

  10. johann- Lustig is far superior ,and Fisher was pretty decent when he was called upon , Efe plays ok there for Nigeria too, hope you are well mate HH

  11. Raberto67, did somebody ask you that horrible question earlier?

You know we get a trolls after defeats, some are suspicious.

I’m an optimist and expect the best from people.

If you can, first home game get along to CQN corner, outside the a Pools Office, loads of CQNers gather. Roasters too.

  12. Doc

    Totally agree about Broonie.

I still think JF has a tendency to chuck it a bit. I accept he has to get out of the way of cluggers – can’t believe what Lasley get away with consistently – but I see him too many times throwing the hands up when he loses it instead of chasing after it.

Not sure about Efe in defensive mid position either. I think he’d be like Mulgrew in there, in that he might be fine in game where he has plenty of time – ie lower level SPFL games, but in tight games I think they’re both too slow & cumbersome to play there in tight games.

  13. I think Biton has to be potentially our CDM or deep midfield general/water carrier.

    Hail Hail.

  14. chrisvancoupon on

Brown is greater than the sum of his parts.

    Bada

I know what you mean, there’s a distinct lack of tough tacklers in the team. VVD can put it about.

Since Paul Lambert there’s been no one who can calmly put an opponent in his place.

  15. CB

I remember having real worries after a Clash concert at the Apollo in 1979 about

them adapting some vibrant and innovative electronic music !

    Geusabreakcsc.

  16. Raberto67, if Myolouko had stayed fit last season I think Efe would have been our DM.

I think he would be better than CM in that position.

  17. Marrakesh Express on

    I’ll say it again.

I’ve been well impressed with the organisation and spectacle achieved by the city of Glasgow and the country in general.

Meanwhile an unspoken undercurrent of bigotry permeats Scottish society.

  18. Doc

Aye, both directly and indirectly, but I’ve decided just to let it slide. I’m not the first and won’t be the last.

Cheers for that. I’ll try if I can. We’re usually running up the muddy hill from the scheme at about 5 to kick-off!

  19. Captain Beefheart on

I expect Celtic to win against the Poles and for us not to concede either. Maybe, just maybe we will get the three goals required.

  20. Doc

Would be interesting to see I suppose. Like any Celt I’d love to see him come good (in my eyes obviously). Just not convinced he has quick enough feet (or brain) to play in there.

  21. Vespacide, our Managers seem to differ.

I haven’t seen enough of him.

Raberto67, JF has heart enough to score vital goals, make vital crosses.

  22. Forrest as RW/IF works for me LW/IF I don’t know about this but if Bo can find his feet and feel like he is actually a member of the team I think he could be quite good.

    Hail Hail.

  23. ZBYSZEK……I think the best person to contact would be LIVIBHUOY he seems to know his way round edinburgh

  24. Captain Beefheart on

That is twice you have said that Delaney. What about?

Angel, indeed. My point though was that they were hopelessly conservative. They were the Nicholas ‘fatty’ Soames of punk. Bloated and conservative.

Each to their own though. As Ernie says, it is all about opinions.

  25. Captain Beefheart on

    Mincey,

If only. Samaras would have greatly enhanced our prospects of qualifying.

  26. For CF our best shout would be Kris Commons as he would not make my first team in the midfield formation as it is and if is not performing then either Puki or Griffiths would have something to shoot at.

    Hail Hail.

  27. Doc, as I said, I know JF can score goals and can get into dangerous positions for crossing, just think he needs to do it more. Also, the throwing up of the hands when he loses it instead of chasing it is pretty unforgivable IMO. On numerous occasions last season he did this while looking away from the ball when it was still yards away and winnable if he went after it. I think he has bags of ability and could easily be our most dangerous attacking player, think it’s more of an attitude problem I have with him.
