Time up for SFA bowling club committee

678

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail exposé on attempts by the SPFL to change the balance of power within the SFA in favour of the professional clubs, while changing their bowling club committee-approach to running the game, was worthy of some merit but clearly the result of an SFA leak designed to undermine the proposed changes.

Any organisation which has a built-in requirement for office-bearers to have enough spare time on their hands in the years before nomination to attend mind-numbingly boring committee meetings is set on a path for mediocrity.  Only those not busy enough with real world issues and challenges will qualify, meaning your best talent is never eligible, which is why we end up with a president like Campbell Ogilvie, who met the mediocre standards and is kept there by equally able under-achievers.

The Sunday Mail try to make out that the proposed move is a grab for cash, although they also explain why this cannot really be the case.  It’s not a grab for cash, it’s not a subversive plot by Premiership clubs, it is an acknowledgement by the professional clubs that the systems of governance and administration in the game is inept and that they do not currently have the control to change things.

Our game needs deliverance from the bowling club committee.

Alex Ferguson gifted a great job to David Moyes.

Manager of one if the world’s great football teams.

IMO,he should have said as he anointed the chosen one…

‘Listen, this team just won the league in a canter. My finest achievement. It needs rebuilt, everyone can see that. I’ve done it four or five times, but I don’t have the heart or the time for it now.

This man has the heart, and he needs the time. He needs support because it won’t happen overnight.’

    Fergie didn’t,and he should have.

He hung Moyes out to dry.

  3. Moyes was reported to be on about £5M a year. with five years of his contract still to go what would he accept as a pay off?

So do you give him millions to go or another year and a summer transfer budget to sort things out?

My tuppence worth on David Moyes

    1) I think he will manage Celtic at some stage in next. 4/5 years

    2) He has tried to change too much, too quickly, and whatever you say about Fergie and the team he left behind, he left the team at the top of the tree.

Interesting analogy, both Sourness and WGS tried to change everything quickly at Rankers and Celtic , and in both cases it worked. Both then tried the same at Liverpool and Boro and failed.

Can’t help think that Moyes should have kept a few more of Fergie’s back room staff, and targeted winning a cup to buy time during rebuild.

Rumours are that they is a clause in his contract about obtaining CL football, defeat yesterday meant it can’t happen now, so possible the pay off won’t be as much.

Or they could do what we did, and just keep on paying his monthly wage until he leaves and joins another club, much cheaper option.

That’s the gamble. It’s a HUGE rebuilding job – 5 or 6 TOP players. That’s gonna cost. If they keep him and he gets it wrong they’re in serious trouble. They can’t afford to be out of the CL another year.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they get Fergie back for a year to get them back in, then see who is available next year.

  8. We discussed whether Moyes should have taken the job last year … and most thought it was just too good an opportunity to turn down. But it was always a bit of a hiding to nothing situation – succeed and he inherited a great squad, fail and it it is his fault.

The fact that his replacement at Everton has taken them on so well also makes things appear even worse for David Moyes.

  9. Man U would be mad to sack Moyes now.

They’re facing a couple of seasons off the top flight whatever happens.

  10. I remember WGS saying that when he managed in England he had to send out a team not to lose most weeks. He felt one of the difficulties of the Celtic job was sending a team out to win every week,

This is where Moyes has fallen down.

His reputation at Everton has been tarnished by Martinez style of play and “success.”

McCarthy was at Wigan last year.

    Martinez took him to Everton.

Apart from that I kinda agree,he has been far superior to Fellaini this season.

But based n his few seasons before that, who would have thought he would be so bad this year?

So manure will have to go foreign this time.

Hate to be pedantic, but in English league, technically, last two managers are foreign :-)

  15. Do not give a flying #@** who takes over at OT, as long as it’s not that preening popinjay Jose. Also for all that has happened or may happen, David Moyes is a good manager and probably a good man as well.

Stop reading too much into things and putting your own slant on it to suit whichever agenda is order of the day for you.

The Tony Watt incident was widely discussed on here, but you know what?

The manager wasn’t,is he black or gay or summat that makes you think that was the reason we didn’t all bugger off to Belgium and roast him alive?

Most people on here actually want Tony to succeed at Celtic, and most of us want Leigh to do so too. That both of them need a boot up the arse for varying reasons is part of growing up.

I nominate me to help you grow up anytime you feel like it.

he has taken a team that won the league, to prob missing out on europe, at the level they are at, he has been a disaster.

Can’t say I am not enjoying what is happening to Man U.

Feel for David Moyes but anyone following Ferguson was always going to struggle not least because the referees aren’t frightened of him.

I did have to laugh at the comments of Giggs when he said they’d never slide like Liverpool because of the foundations put in by Swawex.

    Funny how things turn around.

Personally I would enjoy seeing them lose for the foreseeable – longterm just to find out how many of their fans actually stay on to watch them.

In the short term they’ll come back but what would that do if they went 10 years of being 7th or thereabouts?

    Interesting times ahead.

  22. I feel sorry for moyesie – the players are not very good – they’ve been overachieving for a while and now that man u can’t rely on gigs/scholes etc players to bail them out anymore, the team are ok. Apart from van persie, I can’t think of another playet that the big clubs would want
