Time up for SFA bowling club committee

678

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail exposé on attempts by the SPFL to change the balance of power within the SFA in favour of the professional clubs, while changing their bowling club committee-approach to running the game, was worthy of some merit but clearly the result of an SFA leak designed to undermine the proposed changes.

Any organisation which has a built-in requirement for office-bearers to have enough spare time on their hands in the years before nomination to attend mind-numbingly boring committee meetings is set on a path for mediocrity.  Only those not busy enough with real world issues and challenges will qualify, meaning your best talent is never eligible, which is why we end up with a president like Campbell Ogilvie, who met the mediocre standards and is kept there by equally able under-achievers.

The Sunday Mail try to make out that the proposed move is a grab for cash, although they also explain why this cannot really be the case.  It’s not a grab for cash, it’s not a subversive plot by Premiership clubs, it is an acknowledgement by the professional clubs that the systems of governance and administration in the game is inept and that they do not currently have the control to change things.

Our game needs deliverance from the bowling club committee.

    Without condoning Leigh Griffiths’ prty piece I am struck by how sensitive the ole hunguffers in the MSM have suddenly become to the plight of the World’s refugees.

    For years the massed choir of the Great Unwashed have been beltin’ out TFS with great abandon, and the MSM have been happy to file it under ‘banter’.

    They clearly cant stand the fact that Leigh might be a success in the ole green andwhite hoops,and they are determined to make all of his numerous motes into beams.

    Kit- did you get my e-mail?

    Hoopslegend Dirk Boerrigter is goin’ out with Miss Netherlands, no wonder his ole groin is permanently strained.

    When Sevco played Brechin back in 2012, in the Ramsden’s cup, they had to be granted a temporary SFA membership, as negotiations were still ongoing about their entry to the SFL. That meant that they were running concurrently with Rangers(1872-2012), as they had still not officially gone into liquidation at the time of the game. If they were still the same club, why the need for the temporary membership? A question they don’t like to be asked.

    ——————————————————————————–

    Why the need for a “transfer of membership” – ie a “transfer” from one club to the SAME club???? Strange!

    Spot on, Leigh is no angel, like a lot off players. The witchhunt will gain momentum to deflect from the new clubs demise…hopefully the bhoy will have this explained to him and take note.

    It is interesting to read S.F.A. Rules79 and 86. I wonder what acction ,if any, under these rules, the S.F.A. has taken against the following for their behaviour –

    – Rangers Football Club;

    – The Rangers Football Club;

    – Sevco;

    – Alistair McCoist;

    – Sir David Murray;

    – Dave King;

    – Craig White;

    The NO campaign is still trying to figure out why the bullets they fire miss the target so badly.

    Sure,it may be diff ammunition,but one sure way NOT to fix the problem is to peer down the barrel while pulling the trigger.

    This has been the worst campaign I can remember anywhere,an absolute shambles which will deliver a YES vote against all the odds.

    Didn’t think you were, mate. I can understand people getting fed-up with it all. I’ve said my piece, and don’t intend to keep pointing out what I see as ‘Sevconian Incorrectness’ to fellow Celtic fans, who basically have the same feelings about this whole farce as I have.

  18. I was encouraged yesterday that the news that George Peat & Gordon Smith’s opposition to Mike Mulrany’s proposals must mean the Alloa man is doing something right.

    But then, I looked to see what the proposals were and it does look like a money grab. It is popular and populist to deride the “blazers” and “placemen” which populate the committees of the SFA, an organisation with a long history of doing our club down.

    So, why am I uneasy?

    Well, I remember the lengthy unpaid hours undertaken by match secretaries, disciplinary committees and referee organisers in clubs the length and breadth of the country, representing schools teams, church teams, development league teams, pub teams, amateur teams, juvenile and junior teams. Even before we reach the legitimate target of the characters who thrive in the upper echelons of the SFA, we have slandered and diminished the activities of countless grassroots activists who keep football going in this country. These are not masons, placemen or incompetents; they are ordinary blokes prepared to give up a couple of evenings a week, in addition to their weekend playing commitments, to provide Scottish boys, girls, ladies and men with a game to play.

    I link an article from the Herald this morning, which should give us pause to reflect on this issue. Have the pro clubs and pro Youth set up achieved great things for player development in Scotland? They have, in the past, been guilty of churning up players, hoovered from other clubs, and spitting them out as disillusioned and bitter players.

    I am prepared to give the Mulrany proposals serious consideration but I’d like to see them first before I decide that they must be good because Peat & Smith oppose them.

    Yes, very strange. Think that was the reason for the ‘temporary’ membership. The terms of the ‘transfer’ had still to be decided at the time of the Brechin game.
