Time up for SFA bowling club committee

678

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail exposé on attempts by the SPFL to change the balance of power within the SFA in favour of the professional clubs, while changing their bowling club committee-approach to running the game, was worthy of some merit but clearly the result of an SFA leak designed to undermine the proposed changes.

Any organisation which has a built-in requirement for office-bearers to have enough spare time on their hands in the years before nomination to attend mind-numbingly boring committee meetings is set on a path for mediocrity.  Only those not busy enough with real world issues and challenges will qualify, meaning your best talent is never eligible, which is why we end up with a president like Campbell Ogilvie, who met the mediocre standards and is kept there by equally able under-achievers.

The Sunday Mail try to make out that the proposed move is a grab for cash, although they also explain why this cannot really be the case.  It’s not a grab for cash, it’s not a subversive plot by Premiership clubs, it is an acknowledgement by the professional clubs that the systems of governance and administration in the game is inept and that they do not currently have the control to change things.

Our game needs deliverance from the bowling club committee.

Yes, I am Alan Shearer, and, let me tell you, Alan Shearer doesn’t hand out fivers to anyone! Now, geez peace! I’ve got a fence to creosote.

  6. My friends in Celtic,

After all the previous debating ref, Liquidation, Administration etc., etc.

I am even more confused about the various connotations and technicalities.

Is it possible if “The Rangers ” go into administration we could have ( Apologies for terminology )

An “Oldco” ( BDO are still in the process of Liquidation I believe )

“The Rangers” as a successor to Sevco 5088.

    An even newer ” Newco”

Three clubs / companies / teams running concurrently.

This is increasing farcical. They have always proclaimed they are in a league of their own.

Maybe what they meant is “They’ll have a league of their own”

  9. Greenpinta,

If they had worked it better they could have had a Rangers v The Rangers fundraising match!

Rangers (in liquidation) – the original club, still exists. It doesn’t employ any players though, so is not available to play games.

The Rangers – the new club, still exists. It does employ some alleged footballers and an alleged football manager and plays in some lower league or other.

  11. Paul67 – your article correctly pours scorn on the low standard of quality that the heavily conflicted President bears with such a poor criteria for SFA office.

However, that only strengthens the shame and collusion on our club for being part of the “no objections” statistics on his presidential re-election, surely?

    Rswan.

Who was the alternative candidate now we know they have to attend bowling club style meetings for 8 years prior to nomination?

  15. Greenpinata

When Sevco played Brechin back in 2012, in the Ramsden’s cup, they had to be granted a temporary SFA membership, as negotiations were still ongoing about their entry to the SFL. That meant that they were running concurrently with Rangers(1872-2012), as they had still not officially gone into liquidation at the time of the game. If they were still the same club, why the need for the temporary membership? A question they don’t like to be asked.

Good points, however who would end up with the money in any fundraising game.? It could never be Green & Whyte.

Although my post was partly ( Only partly ) in jest you open up an intriguing scenario.

What if the “Oldco ” win the prevailing tax case and some ex- board member employs players.

Sorry but there was no vote etc on Campbell Ogilvie who was re-elected by default when no one would stand against him.

An alternative candidate was sought, and encouraged, but declined to stand on health grounds thus leaving CO unopposed.

Had the alternative stood, it is pretty certain that he would have been elected.

Celtic did not vote for or against Ogilvie — they weren’t allowed to.

Meanwhile, consider where we are this morning — and don’t believe your newspapers!
