Time up for SFA bowling club committee

678

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail exposé on attempts by the SPFL to change the balance of power within the SFA in favour of the professional clubs, while changing their bowling club committee-approach to running the game, was worthy of some merit but clearly the result of an SFA leak designed to undermine the proposed changes.

Any organisation which has a built-in requirement for office-bearers to have enough spare time on their hands in the years before nomination to attend mind-numbingly boring committee meetings is set on a path for mediocrity.  Only those not busy enough with real world issues and challenges will qualify, meaning your best talent is never eligible, which is why we end up with a president like Campbell Ogilvie, who met the mediocre standards and is kept there by equally able under-achievers.

The Sunday Mail try to make out that the proposed move is a grab for cash, although they also explain why this cannot really be the case.  It’s not a grab for cash, it’s not a subversive plot by Premiership clubs, it is an acknowledgement by the professional clubs that the systems of governance and administration in the game is inept and that they do not currently have the control to change things.

Our game needs deliverance from the bowling club committee.

  1. Sky say twitter says Man U have confirmed Moyes has his jotters…. And a couple of wheelbarrows of cash…

  2. So much for giving a manager time to rebuild a team!

A spiral down for some time if they don’t have the bottle to stand by a new manager through some hard times.

Good luck to the Rebels today.

What a difference to our game they can make.

  4. Whilst in Liverpool two years ago I got chatting to a Liverpool cabby.

He took me on a wee tour of the city ,I was looking up old land mars from when I visited there in the late 70’s early 80’s.

We got chatting about how the city had changed in ethnicity and it’s religious mix.

He told me that in the 60’s there was religious tension between Catholics and Protestants.

That the Orange walks also caused friction .

I asked if there was a Catholic football team in the city.

He told me that Everton were favoured by more Catholics in years gone bye.

He stated that any such religious divide was dying out ,but in very loose terms

Liverpool were the Proddy team and Everton the Catholic team.

This is not the first time I have been told that, although my personal experience is that no such religious decision on who a scouser will support has been based on religion.

I think there is a managerial merry go round about to begin in Europe starting in England.

Hopefully Neil Lennon will still be in the hot seat at Celtic Park at the start of next season.

  9. Klopp is the obvious choice for Man Utd but he’s supposedly Barca bound. Van Gaal is yesterday’s man, they need a younger man. Simeone would be a good option for them.

  10. Conducted a little media experiment late last night. Posted a pro-Celtic feature based on the topical comments re Celtic from the Liverpool manager. I mentioned that this very same story was with the red tops for consideration for today’s papers. It has made the back page of the Sun but is not featured at all in Daily Record. They had it but didn’t use it.

A major investor in Rangers International Football Club made some senior personnel changes this week end.

The two senior executives who made the original decision to invest in RIFC have been let go by the investment house.

Moreover, two other middle managers also involved in the RIFC account have been moved sideways with their careers at the firm effectively over.

In their place the company has brought in a trusted expert from central Europe who is known for his unemotional approach to failing businesses.

He is now reporting directly the man at the top of the tree and we can expect further developments this week driven by this major shareholder.

Emotion has left the building and it is now all about the numbers at the Big Hoose.

    Developing story.

“Moyes wasn’t big enough for the job” forgetting that until Ferguson restored greatness to Man U, they were a joke for years. #moyes

I think that kind of sums things up.

    Oh, and GG’s – son? – grandson? – great/grandson? – great/great/grandson? :)

Nephew even? – looked like he should have been in BK’s position and, hopefully

    he will be in future.

P.S. Stephan Johansson(sp) looked like he didn’t know which ‘hole’ that he’d need

to, dig BK from next ! imho

BK looked like being the ‘real’ deal to me and, to Neil(who wanted him signed up on a new deal soon as) but, for various reasons… has fallen out of the picture. Sadly.

BK’s best game for me was, the Sammi-game at ibrokes in the ne’erday game 0-2 tae us.

    That, was a grand day.

The pics from outside CP look good but, when will the new Jungle be built or, similar ?

What is DFM doing to all of those RB’s ? :)

I still think that we need a new LB as, sadly…Izzy(through injury) looks like being a one season wonder. imho

But then again….why not just bring in GMS and, we’ll no need a LB ?

Waiting for important phone-call…try to get back later. If not – take care.

    Off oot.

Ferguson inherited a shambles of a football club, under achieving for over 20 years and required to build it from the bottom up.

Moyes took over a billion dollar business with a global brand, and success on the pitch.

Whoever took over from Ferguson was on a hiding to nothing, much like Busby’s various successors, but Moyes was the wrong choice and they should be doing a lot better than they are (at least competing for CL place).

    Different level of expectation.

A bit like Neil Lennon expected to win the treble every season.

When Martin O’Neill was appointed we were happy to get closer to Rangers and maybe pick up a cup. We actually went out and won the treble.

Expectation adds it’s own pressures. As much as I like Moyes as a man it would appear he wasn’t up to it.

He deserved more time but Man Utd need European football. Looking back at his manegerial career thus far it was a mistake to get a man in with no experience of winning trophies at a club who expect them every year. he did not have the luxury of being a former player of Man Utd and the leniency that goes along with that. The fans turned very quickly and he did not make the right noises to make them believe it was part of the rebuild. In fact he didn’t seem to know where to start with the rebuild. Almost the whole defence is out of contract this summer and it looks like Vidic and Evra will go to Inter. Rio Ferdinand may or may not be offered a deal and the others don;t appear to be good enough. Man Utd have need a combative centre midfielder for 2 years and Moyes panicked and bought Fellaini way too late in the window. I watched him for the first time closely when Scotland played Belgium and he couldn;t get near the ball as Charlie Mulgrew dominated him. Mata is a good signing but it’s not been done without cost. £80m for 2 players? Neither have really been out of this world with Fellaini looking well out of his depth. Moyes should have signed 4 players in the summer at least and got rid of the dross left at the club by Ferguson.

I hope Moyes takes a decent break from the game because I think he needs it. Where Man Utd go from here is anyone’s guess but I suspect they will go down the route of their old rivals Liverpool and make a mountain of mistakes whilst the former boss sits upstairs making his replacements uncomfortable. If Moyes is not the man then Ferguson should do the honourable thing and walk. It was his appointment. He begged the fans to give him time they didn’t. The honeymoon period didn’t last long.

Will Moyes be a future Celtic manager? Possibly? Who knows?

I think what I have observed of him at Man Utd is that Davie Moyes was never fully comfortable in the limelight. He didn;t appear to have control in a media situation or the charm of his rivals with the press. That does not help in the modern era. Especially not with the 24 hour reporting in the EPL.

Could Moyes handle the pressure at a club like Celtic? Maybe? That thought is for another day. Looking at who Celtic have now in charge it’s moments like this you appreciate the gaffer you have. Neil has had his critics and he has made a lot of mistakes but he is young and he is learning everyday. He seems to fit the bill as a manager of a big club. Maybe Davie Moyes is more suited to a provincial club or an assistant manager role.

Hopefully Davie gets a rest and regroups and goes on to have a successful career at another club in the future. Will it be Celtic? I think it’s doubtful after his showing at Old Trafford.

  19. Moyes may end up at West Ham when Big Sam gets the bullet in the summer. Keep them in the league next season ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium

Ole Davie Moyes learnin’ the hard way that there are two great disappointments in life- not gettin’ your heart’s desire, and gettin’ it.

  21. DBBIA,

Sounds more to me like thon former owner of Hearts. (I am aware that he has sought asylum in Uncle’s Joe old stomping territory.) He does have hands on experience of Scottish football; he’s already run one club (!!) almost into the ground. How fitting if he were to put the final nail in the coffin of the deid mob fae Govan.

ParkheadcumSalford- ole Vlad the Impaler? Maks sense tae me, and it maks sense tae Mo.

..or will it be our hero, regeneratin’ himself as Craig Whytovitch, the Tomsk born billionaire, with wealth wider than the steppe?

  23. ….As it would appear, Moyesie is deemed unfit for the Big job at Man U, then he is similarly not up for the Big job at Paradise.

    No question.

Anyway, thank God Neil has no plans to leave the Holy Land.

Accepting the role with us would be very difficult. Expectation levels huge, coupled with the sleekit machinations of those who do not support the club in the meeja (and elsewhere), and are unable to countenance Celtic success at any level.
