What is the cost of Tom Rogic’s continuing absence for another two months? Tom has scored more than a few winning or equalising goals over the last two years. We could need him to deliver the third leg of the treble, or to keep the winning run in the league going, but this will not be the real cost.
Tom has been robbed of a precious three months during the most effective spell of his professional life. He improved with every passing month, got stronger, lasted the entire game and even scored a last minute winner.
With competition as it is at Celtic, he’ll be distraught. The personal target of all those who have been on an upward trajectory this season is to put their name on the team sheet for the summer’s Champions League qualifiers. For a player who the manager insisted worked for months before he was relied upon to last 90 minutes, any time he gets before the end of the season will be about recuperation.
For now, there should be no personal targets for Tom apart from being fully fit come June.
You know when you read a nugget which encapsulates much of the journey Scottish football has been on in recent decades? Chick Charnley yesterday on Jim Duffy: “When I played for him at Dundee and Hibs, he would give me Mondays off because he knew I enjoyed my weekends.”
And that was Chic making the case that Jim should have a higher job! Cheers.
Another quote to consider, this time from Brendan:
“There are three types of supporters. The first type who absolutely love you because you are the manager of Celtic. It doesn’t matter what you do, they’ll give you shirts and want you to sign everything.
“The second group are: ‘Okay, we’ll give you a chance and let’s see how you do. See if you win games and I’ll decide’.
“The third group, that’s the group who if you won five they’ll say you should have won seven. ‘You won 5-2? Why did you let in the two goals?’ You can never win!”
I wonder if he’s spoken to Gordon Strachan?
Oldtim
A question for those of you who have been here since the early days:
Oldtim made a significant first post on CQN but neither he nor I have a copy of it. It was, however, copied and referred to by many in the months that followed. If you have a copy, let me know. Thanks.

Warburton will take them to the cleaners, he was a city whizz kid , remember?
Sorry, that was the guy who managed the mighty Rangers. This new guy who they just sacked is a Cockney barrow boy , at it all the time and probably a bit Feniany. So he deserves nothing. That okay Mr Traynor?
So Warburton says he’s not toast but admits to recently feeling a bit of an outsider.
From BBC site:
Mark Warburton says he has not stood down as Rangers manager, despite the club saying that they have accepted the resignation of him and his staff.
Rangers announced on Twitter that Warburton, assistant David Weir and head of recruitment, Frank McParland were leaving the club.
It linked to a website statement saying that Rangers had accepted their notices of termination.
But Warburton told BBC Scotland he was unaware of the statement.
And the website statement has subsequently been taken down.
I have to say, as a Greenockian, I am not happy about this shock resignation. It very often is the case that teams, even wee teams, tend to play better when the manager leaves….so, I am concerned that said we team might spring a surprise and put Morton out of the cup.
Sevco

managerless

Wiseness, isnae as Wise as this Chap.
Resigned, not resigned, who cares, what a feckin shambles :-)
Gerry, hopefully his school team gets to the final.
They have played 4 Scottish Cup games already.
Some of his school team mates play for EKFC (note not EK Thistle lol) under 19’s and are in their under 21 squad occaisonally with a number of ex pro youth players also in the school team.
He is desparate to go on our local CSC to Pittodrie and Tynecastle but will have to wait for years due to small allocation we get for each ground.
A man has just lost his job, how heartless you lot are.
Then again, thinking of his massive pay off he will get, goodluck to him….mmmm he best not hold his breath waiting for it though.
Surely they won’t role out the Cardigan? I’d love it if they did even as a mentor as seats will need sold soon.

Historical.
Rangers agreed to waive its rights to substantial compensation. Rangers’ agreement to waive compensation would assist the management team to join another club. This compensation amount was agreed …

Sounds like there’s been a bit of a travelling bargain cock up over the resignations.
Goodness know what Arnold’s going to have to say about it all.

Oho — so who has any generalist or specialist HR skills to sort out this old mess then?
Just got into the car and there was a programme on Radio 4 about the intricacies of the Cuban crisis and how it lead to a mess for 50 years, so I thought I would turn to Radio Scotland for some light relief only to find news of a cock up which makes the Cuban crisis seem like a choreographed two step.
What a shambles!!!
An ongoing situation as the State department would say. Or for us a target rich environment as the military would say.
Admin 2 is the likely outcome. Not too sure that will be good for us on the long run as Ashley has a track record of only buying trashed brands and businesses and setting them straight.
There is no doubt that the brand and business of Rangers Football Club is well and truly FUBAR to continue the military speak.
