Topping agitates for a fans’ revolt

593

“The best hope for the Scottish game? It’s in the activity the fans bring to bear on big organisations.”

“Fans don’t realise yet how much change they can bring about”.

Not the words of a blogger-agitator, the words of out-going SCFL chairman, Ralph Topping, trying to incite fans to revolt against TV companies.  In the same valedictory interview to The Scotsman, Topping acknowledged the mobilisation of fans against governance standards at the SPFL, but turned his face to the fans.

The man has been in office for 8 years but has been a virtual recluse as far as the paying public are concerned.  Now we know why, he has no filter or self-awareness.

Not good enough, Mr Topping.  You have failed to answer any of the pertinent questions (here) and despite the game being brought into significant disrepute during your tenure, you have now briefed the press that you intend to ignore Celtic’s request that matters are reviewed.

If you want to incite a revolt from football fans, you are on track.  We’ll do what we can, I promise.

After watching the 1st half vs Lyon again, its immediately apparent what a potentially massive talent we have in our midst in the form of Kundai Benyu.

Soon we could be saying “Paddy Roberts who?” :-)

    ——————————————————————————-

It will soon become evident enough, we’ll never say “Paddy Roberts who?” ;-(

When the draw for the 1st and 2nd rounds of the Champions League qualifiers were made by UEFA, there was a break in proceedings during the 2 draws so that UEFA could group the seeded and unseeded teams to ensure there would be no potential flash point ties (e.g. Russian and Ukrainian teams etc)

They could easily have placed Linfield/La Fiorita in one of the other 2 unseeded groups as part of their deliberations – but they didn’t. Are they then not partly culpable for the ensuing debacle

    ………..

    No Mike.

Celtic should simply have demanded that the tie was played played on the 11th or the Twelfth.

    Demanded it.

Unfortunately Celtic could do little as it’s UEFA’s competition and they set, interpret and can amend the rules as they see fit. Celtic are only one of the many clubs who enter the competition subject to its rules.

That’s the way it is for all competitions, which is why the SFA can expel a club from their Cup competition for missing signatures …………..

If you are hoping for fans to boycott cup games I think the chances are slim reading the views of many on this blog and others.

    ======================

No I wasn’t not just from recent blogs but past ones.

Getting a boycott off the ground is nigh impossible unless possibly a one day supporters general strike across all clubs.

At least that would remove the argument that Celtic are not going to play in front of a hostile audience with no Celtic supporters there for them.

5 empty stadiums on just one Saturday is what is needed but who will organise? That lot of course will stay loyal to the cheats charter.

That polis was filming them for the whole of the game and the scum knew that whatever they did there would be no comeback, throwing a few coins, bottles and the like wouldn’t be high on the polis agenda.

My two sons watching heard “Fenian, Fenian.”

I thought it was “Paedo, Paedo” directed at LG and Jonny Hayes. Maybe we were all correct then. The monkey chants directed at SS were clearly heard too. Sort this scummy wee team out on the Park on Wednesday please Celtic.

I agree it has to be club led but supporters have role to play in making that happen.

If the clubs don’t act they will get the governance they deserve and the consequences.

Hola my friend. Given your reply to TriR who made the decision to move the date of the first tie? I’m guessing it wasn’t UEFA and it’s clear that Celtic were happy to agree with any proposed change.

May need to catch your reply later as we’re just heading out.

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Europa League first round qualifying match (first leg) between Rangers FC and FC Progrès Niederkorn (1-0), played on 29 June in Scotland.

    Charges against Rangers FC:

    – Throwing of objects Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)

This case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 7 July.

Anybody know what happened in this case ?

It seems to me that the clubs are happy with the governance, else they would call for change, as for the consequences, that’s a very different matter.

I think the club have played a blinder, they have appointed Brendan, spent a few bob and everything for the moment is rosy, there will be no backlash as long as we are winning and spanking the huns, it will be a fair few years afore the suits have to start looking over their shoulders.

Hola amigo, que tal? Or should I say Mr Minx ?

Think this UEFA reg covers the point on fixture dates …

Article 22 Confirmation of fixtures and automatic reversals

22.01 The venues, dates (in accordance with the calendar in Annex C) and kick-off times for matches in the three qualifying rounds are fixed by each home club and must be confirmed and communicated to the UEFA administration in writing by their associations by the deadline set by the UEFA administration.

The UEFA administration may alter or confirm dates and kick-off times according to the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee.

No mention of the away club in this regulation …

  27. My friends in Celtic,

Wanton cheating and general ballbaggery cannot be allowed to go unpunished. The history books must reflect that.

Many of us have stated that it is not the fans who should wage the fight, it is the club. If need be, our club alone.

I’m against boycotts in general, as they are largly self defeating and simply don’t work. Talk of a fans boycott seems very simplistic and a touch silly , when we have just sold a mega amount of ST’s ( Possibly the most or close to the most in our existance )

Nobody can seriously expect fans who are still paying up their tickets and possibly making many sacrifices to do so, to then stay away.

I would like to see the club address the ST holders and any other group that contributes financially on the way forward.

    HH to all.

  28. Auldheid

In a round about way that is what I am saying :-)

I also very much doubt that you or anyone else will be able to dispute it, as long as the team is winning there will be no supporter backlash, those who do walk away will be replaced by others who don’t give a feck.

    HH

  29. Auldheid

The letter you got has been forgotten about as well you know, like everything else will be forgotten about.
