Topping agitates for a fans’ revolt

593

“The best hope for the Scottish game? It’s in the activity the fans bring to bear on big organisations.”

“Fans don’t realise yet how much change they can bring about”.

Not the words of a blogger-agitator, the words of out-going SCFL chairman, Ralph Topping, trying to incite fans to revolt against TV companies.  In the same valedictory interview to The Scotsman, Topping acknowledged the mobilisation of fans against governance standards at the SPFL, but turned his face to the fans.

The man has been in office for 8 years but has been a virtual recluse as far as the paying public are concerned.  Now we know why, he has no filter or self-awareness.

Not good enough, Mr Topping.  You have failed to answer any of the pertinent questions (here) and despite the game being brought into significant disrepute during your tenure, you have now briefed the press that you intend to ignore Celtic’s request that matters are reviewed.

If you want to incite a revolt from football fans, you are on track.  We’ll do what we can, I promise.

    The Green Man,

Not a chance the board will knock back the guts of 2000 tickets x 25 quid or so.

    Maybe more.

    Anyway,who cares?

Get them in,take their cash and get them hammered.

Lot of chat about what Celtic can, will or will not do about the club, players, fans and shareholders being cheated.

At the risk of repeating myself.

The threat of doing a Belfast Celtic would bring the whole stinking mess tumbling down.

Problem is that doing a Belfast Celtic would require haw maws of a size Celtic PLC does not possess.

OK,but just remind me again, how did Belfast Celtic come out of it?.

The Security profession is like Commercial Law in Scotland. It’s a closed shop for Catholics. No point in asking what “Non Denominational Protestant” school they went to.

We have to make do with the best Prods on offer.

I concur with your opinion, UEFA rules are what they are.

Watching the game I was screaming at the tv for him to drop, I saw at least one coin hit him.

Had he, a whole different scenario would have ensued.

Celtic PLC have a legal responsibility to do what’s best for her shareholders.

That should clear up any confusion between the Celtic and Befast Celtic analogy.

    Reggie,

So you have no issue with a Hearts fan and a Hun ex-cop doing PR and security on behalf of Celtic.?

    Aye,terrific stuff that is.

Bring Gregory Campbell on board for the full hand..

We are on the receiving end of cheating day in day out, you may well be Ok with it but this Tim has had it, we have bent over to appease them for long enough, the only way to get anywhere is to play them at their own game, IMO that is.

That was my point the other night. Was playing against Kilwinning Rangers in a Cup tie, the team sheets been read out to the crowed had given away my cultural identity.

Missiles came pouring down as I went to take a throw in. Twice I paused to show the ref – now UEFA qualified- the deluge pouring forth from the crowd.

I was promptly cautioned. Had I gone down he would have stopped the game, “but you didnt go down, you’re time wasting” he sez whilst shaking his head profusely.

  12. Obviously no provocation justify s violence. The guys who threw stuff were scumbags and the Ref was a plonker, but Leigh was also silly to go & tie a scarf to the goal posts after the game.

These guys don’t need an excuse to be violent but why do it.

A UEFA delegate was always going to report it.

Put a good word for me when your in heaven please ;-)

  14. Sure it was Hawthorne.Used to speak to Tommy Burns PA when he was manager.Retired after TB left. She once told me that the Head Security guy would always give Tommy stick after a Hun win.She said Tommy hated it,and could not stand the guy.She said it was not just friendly banter, but that it lasted for days.

How long has Hawthorne been there.Sure that was the name she said.

If it’s meaningless and ultimately useless statements you want then there’s a team in govan to help you. Go support them.

Do you know that the uefa delegate never reported the man slapping Dida on the head against Milan

  17. At a time when the gap between celtic and its domestic rivals in and off the park has never been greater the usual malcontents and great strategic thinkers on here are suggesting Celtic take the Belfast Celtic option. Great stroke of genius that would be. We can all go support Thistle or Clyde or such whilst the glasgow Linfield go for more Wurld records. Great plan.

  18. Barney, What exactly do you expect Celtic to say?.

Leigh tied the bloody scarf to the post, we all saw him do it, now UEFA are saying it was a provocative thing to do and there is going to be a hearing on it.

I assume that Celtic & Leigh will be given an opportunity to make a submission & that is where you make a case.

Making a Statement is something the Huns might do, playing to the lowest common denominator of their support, but it achieves the square root of eff all.

The only possible thing that Celtic should do is to launch an appeal against Leigh’s yellow card but I’m not even sure if you can appeal a yellow.

  19. BURNLEY78

I’m refraining from what I really want to say to you. Knee jerk reactions. I’m sure ur a good Celtic man. I’ll leave it at that.

  20. BURNLEY78 on 17TH JULY 2017 10:18 PM

Who gave that idiotic suggestion bar one? No one else suggested it. Get a grip.

  21. Corky

I very much doubt the uefa delegate would have seen Griff tying the scarf to the post, it happened well after the game finished, one of the local huns would have told him to add it to his report to try and mitigate the trouble with their own.

Fair point. This is no longer a place for moderates. It’s a place for everyone is against us so boycott everything. Sad. But the reality is Celtic aren’t taking anyone to court and the fans aren’t boycotting anything. So you’ll have to deal with that.

  25. Corkcelt

I expect our PR department (have we got one, oh yes P67) to make a statement in defence of one of our players who was assaulted trying to play a game.

    Is that unreasonable?

  26. Don’t know whether he saw it on real time TET but I’m sure he saw photos of it in the media.

I also have no doubt that the Orangies would have made him aware of it.

They are in more serious trouble than us & anything that would mitigate their crowd misbehaviour charge would be pounced on.

  27. SIONNACH ABU

Whatever Brendan knows or doesn’t know about Linfield fans isn’t the issue though, we all know what they are, Griff’s wee gesture has us up before the beaks at UEFA, not where we would want to be I’m sure.

Time and place Griff much as though we all love a GIRFUY to mobs like Linfield:))
