Topping agitates for a fans’ revolt

593

“The best hope for the Scottish game? It’s in the activity the fans bring to bear on big organisations.”

“Fans don’t realise yet how much change they can bring about”.

Not the words of a blogger-agitator, the words of out-going SCFL chairman, Ralph Topping, trying to incite fans to revolt against TV companies.  In the same valedictory interview to The Scotsman, Topping acknowledged the mobilisation of fans against governance standards at the SPFL, but turned his face to the fans.

The man has been in office for 8 years but has been a virtual recluse as far as the paying public are concerned.  Now we know why, he has no filter or self-awareness.

Not good enough, Mr Topping.  You have failed to answer any of the pertinent questions (here) and despite the game being brought into significant disrepute during your tenure, you have now briefed the press that you intend to ignore Celtic’s request that matters are reviewed.

If you want to incite a revolt from football fans, you are on track.  We’ll do what we can, I promise.

What will be the Celtic support’s

    focus ?

    A: 1500 opposition fans

    Or

    B: The SFA/SPL

Will our silence be deafening again ?

We need to act, campaign for the right thing to be done. Waiting silently for a decision from those with vested interest will just ensure there’s a higher barrier to overcome.

Arrived back from holiday to find Junior had a physically new season card.

    Not one for me.

Had presumed last year’s would just be in use again as had happened 12 months ago.

Should I call the ticket office at 9.30 and spend forever on hold???

Yeah, a lot of interesting things going on back in 2012, with the ‘walk-away for nothing’ players. ( must be a new club , or something!)

And, of course, threatened fan boycotts, but they never work, do they?

Last paragraph from The Independent is interesting, bearing in mind when it was written.

“Rangers, who have won the Scottish title a record-breaking 54 times and have never been relegated, will take the place of Stranraer and complete their fixtures for the 2012-13 season. But that is dependent on developments in the SPL meeting on Monday”

    Fix was in early…

That happened to me last year but it was confirmed that my ard had been reactivated. I am in the same boat this season and not concerned.

  14. JAMESGANG on 18TH JULY 2017 9:11 AM

I was in the ticket office yesterday for something unrelated to my season ticket but I was in the same situation. My wee pal that I take to the game got a new ticket but I didn’t. I asked them about it and they said my existing ticket would be activated for the new season. Since I was there I got them to check it and it has been activated so you should be OK for tomorrow.

  16. FIFA Vice President and head of the Spanish Football Association Angel Maria Villar has been arrested in Spain in an anti-corruption operation.

  17. Praecepta

That is terrible. Fancy arresting an obviously innocent man. We all know there is no corruption in football.

  18. BMCUW

Yes, the article is all over the place regarding relegation/liquidation, but makes it clear that the fans’ conclusion, “up with this we shall not put!” was crucial in seeing Sevco starting from the bottom tier.

    PRAECEPTA

Even allowing for the presumption of innocence, some clearly believe he is no angel.

Methinks he needs a non-Arbroath based QC to help him out.

  25. LG was mischief making with the scarf nothing more nothing less, UEFA being UEFA will do him, they have to do something to take the bad look of the the representative from Spain they sent to referee this game, does anybody look at these referees to see if they have the capability to do a European game? Cause this rocket is prime to be an SPFL referee, ….serious question is Dallas still involved in processing refereeing standards in European games, because his paw marks are all over this .anny
