News that Rangers FC Group Ltd had settled a dispute with solicitors Fyfe Ireland ahead of a hearing scheduled for tomorrow brought another legal matter to the fore today. BBC lawyers have been on red alert since last month when a spokesman for Rangers owner, Craig Whyte, said he “has instructed his lawyers, Carter Ruck, to commence immediate legal proceedings against the BBC” following the BBC Scotland Investigates documentary, Rangers: The Inside Story.
However, I hear nothing has been received from Carter Ruck, or any other lawyers, in connection with claims made in the documentary, much to the disappointment of some, who hoped for swift and meaningful action to settle the allegations, and others, who were keen to see the issue play out in court. As a result, a couple of jounros I’ve spoken to feel emboldened on this subject….

SBrown is the whipping boy for many.
He is an excellent player whose energy and drive has covered up many of our tactical shortcomings.
Many forget that our managerial and player capitulation at ibrox this season came about because he got injured and subbed.
They guy who many say can’t pass set up our fightback in first half.
Interesting story that in The Herald about Celtic and WGS. Not surprising that deal apparently fell through when it came Gordon’s personal terms.
If PL had done his job in January 2009 and not let the Fletcher deal fall through, there is every chance that the successful WGS might still be around and Celtic rather than currently playing a desperate game of catch up, might well be closing in on seven in a row.
Then again, Celtic’s upper management never learns.

I rate Scott Brown but the stats do not necessarily make you wrong about his contribution. Too many other factors need to be considered. So, you can carry on saying his contribution is negligible (or whatever it is you think it is!) .

Do you honestly think that over the piece he has contributed enough to justify an estimated £4,000,000 to acquire his services?

Swedish defender, Mikael Lustig, joins #Celtic for 3.5 years from 01/01/12. Has signed a pre-contract agreement. Currently at Rosenborg.
Never mind Davie Hay’s view on Strachan coming back as mentor, why not bring in Davie Hay as he has all the credentials. In my opinion the current Celtic bench does not have enough experience, it is filled with friends of a similar age, experience and I can only assume thoughts on the game.
Davie Hay is an ex-Celtic player and league winning manager who knows what it is all about. He has an eye for a player as evidenced by his scouting work for the club unearthing gems, has worked as an agent so understands that side of the game, has managed abroad, has European experience and also relevant experience of Scottish football including winning a trophy with Livingston. As an aside he is hard as nails.
I think he could be a major source of help for Lenny.
Glad we’ve signed Lustig, not only coz he’s a handy player, but also coz his name means ‘funny’ in German.
Surely the notion of Celtic having a manager who needs a mentor is risible.
It is just another example of boardroom thinking that seems hell bent on making the ordinary Celtic fan look a bit foolish.
Fun linguistical facts:
The French have no word for ‘entrepreneur’. (thumbsup)
Scott Brown has been a Celtic player for four and a half years. He had a poor first season, was POTY in his second and has been good but not great since. Lenny seemed to be getting the best out of him last season when playing him on the right side rather than through the middle.
At a £4.4m transfer fee and £1m+ per year on wages has he been value for money?
I would say no, and whilst not detracting from what he does well, I would be looking for a far more accomplished midfielder for the money spent on Broonie, a playmaker who has a direct effect on games with goals and creating for others. Broonie does neither, and what he does do well, closing down, driving forward and generally being busy in the midfield, can be done just as well by others who are on a lot less money, allowing what cash we have to be spent on where it could be better used, e.g. centre forward, midfield playmaker, experienced centre half, keeper.

Yes I do!
Our playing system has been lopsided and poorly spaced for years and his ability to cover more ground than ‘most has made it less of a liability.

Celtic have announced the signing of defender Mikael Lustig on a pre-contract agreement.
The Swede, who will join in January, has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal with Neil Lennon’s side.
Lustig is currently with Rosenborg but will move to the Scottish Premier League on a free transfer.
Celtic have beaten off interest from clubs in England, Italy and Spain to land the player, who predominantly plays at right back but can also provide cover in the centre of defence.
The 24-year-old has won 23 caps for Sweden and featured in their recent 1-0 defeat to England alongside future Celtic team-mate Daniel Majstorovic.
Lustig has plied his trade in Norway for nearly four years, having moved to Rosenborg from GIF Sundsvall in January 2008. The player started his career with Umea FC in his homeland, where he spent three seasons.

Agree to differ.
Jungle Jim,
I put my argument to the test using stats, the stats identified the argument was the wrong one, but I’m happy to accept that, it doesnt make him any better a player IMO, but I have to accept his stats are much better than I expected.
Thanks bhoys
Trying to do too many things at once, multi tasking ain’t for me.
So have Celtic or WGS admitied that there was an offer on the table, or is this just more paper talk ??
Why do we need another right back ? Is that 4 we now have on the books ?

You can never have too many right backs.
Mikael:
“I’m Lustig after a first-team berth…”
Hat, Scarf, Official CFC string-backed driving gloves etc
HS,
at the rate of unpunished assaults, I reckon we could have 6 right backs and still fininsh the season with someone filling in.

replacement for Wilson and Cha as they out of contract in the summer and Wilson is continuously injured
or
cashing in on Matthews in January
Awe_Naw – I thought for a second that said:
having moved to Rosenborg from GTF Sundsvall
I thought, that’s a bit harsh on Sundsvall. What are they, the Airdrie of Sweden? (thumbsup)
Phil
sundsvall in Swedish means Glasgow Rangers

You are probably right.Celtic should get Nike to create Kevlar footballing kits to protect our players from the spl hammer throwers and their accomplances in black.

Hope your wrong with the second scenario and correct with first
Welcome to Paradise Mikael, hope your stay is long and fruitful :-)

Surely in English? It’s already in Swedish, no?
Decent pedigree for the laddie. Rosenborg won the league the last two seasons? Also adds some height at 6ft 3in which we’ve lacked at times during our poor set piece defense this season.
Welcome big man.
Hi Ghuys, Salve salve;- Bring back Gordon Strachan? no way, not in a million years.
Nothing personal, I really like the wee ghuy and have total respect for all his achievements when he was in command. I was very happy when he was appointed as our manager because I was sure that he would address the very real problems we had with fitness and his appointment of Gregory Dupoint was inspired. However, in the last two years of his tenure, the football on offer was totally abysmal and often was enough to drive one to stab one’s eyes with red hot needles. Without doubt, Peter the bonus eater has cocked it up bigtime with his manegerial appointments since WGS left no disrespect to Lenny, he has my support (though not unqualified) and I hope he achieves what he undoubtably wants for us. Lenny does not need anymore help in making mistakes, The bonus eater and Park are doing just fine in that department.

CELTIC are delighted today to announce the signing of Mikael Lustig from Rosenborg on a pre-contract agreement. The agreement means that Mikael will join Celtic on January 1, 2012, on a three-and-a-half year contract.
The player is thrilled to be making the move to Celtic and cannot wait to get started. He said: “This is a really exciting time for me and I am delighted to be committing my future to Celtic.
“I know a lot about Celtic, about the size of the Club, the world-famous supporters and about the quality squad of players which is already there. I´m really looking forward to joining this squad, to the challenges ahead and hopefully playing my part in bringing some success to the Club.”
Celtic manager Neil Lennon said: “We are delighted to bring Mikael to Celtic. We believe he has the qualities to become a real hun skelper at the Club and we look forward to him joining us in January.
“He is a player with international pedigree and a defender with great versatility. He is someone who I feel will be a very positive addition to the squad.
“I like his attributes and he can play both positions (right-back and centre-half), but he´s predominantly a right-back.”

I wonder what Scheidt means in brazillian ? probably the same as english i’d say :)
I’m hoping Cha and Wilson for the off. Wouldn’t be happy at all if we try to cash in on young Matthews so early and keep the other two.
Really embarrassed frankly by all these people wishing Mark Wilson away. A true Celtic man who was tremendous for us is a rather abysmal season last year. Terribly blighted by injuries but hardly the first player I’d run out the door.
