Tumbleweed from Carter Ruck emboldens journos

News that Rangers FC Group Ltd had settled a dispute with solicitors Fyfe Ireland ahead of a hearing scheduled for tomorrow brought another legal matter to the fore today.  BBC lawyers have been on red alert since last month when a spokesman for Rangers owner, Craig Whyte, said he “has instructed his lawyers, Carter Ruck, to commence immediate legal proceedings against the BBC” following the BBC Scotland Investigates documentary, Rangers: The Inside Story.

However, I hear nothing has been received from Carter Ruck, or any other lawyers, in connection with claims made in the documentary, much to the disappointment of some, who hoped for swift and meaningful action to settle the allegations, and others, who were keen to see the issue play out in court.  As a result, a couple of jounros I’ve spoken to feel emboldened on this subject….

    paper talk from last week

PREMIER League pair Fulham and Everton are considering a January swoop for Celtic defender Adam Matthews.

SunSport can reveal the Welsh kid, 19, has emerged as a top target for the two English clubs.

Versatile Matthews is contracted to Celts until 2015 and has told friends he is in no hurry to leave Parkhead.

But a bid of around £5million could tempt chief executive Peter Lawwell to sell a player who cost just £200,000 in the summer.

Four-times capped Matthews is proving to be one of Neil Lennon’s best signings after a superb start to his Hoops career.

He was signed as a right-back but has shifted to the other side of defence with Emilio Izaguirre injured. Lennon signed experienced Badr El Kaddouri on loan but Matthews has kept him out of the side and has been earning rave reviews.

He was seen as one for the future when he was snapped up from Cardiff City in the close season.

But Matthews instantly won over boss Lennon who would be reluctant to lose him after just half a season at the club.

Fulham and Everton are both desperate to sign right-backs, though, and Matthews has climbed their target list.

Davie Moyes sent his chief scout Robbie Cook to see Matthews in action with Fulham scouting him FIVE times this season.

  2. Well done Celtic, great signing.

It had been reported in Norway the other day it was a done deal.

Quick question on real radio last night,Derek Johnstone claimed that HMRC had lost 2 similar cases recently as the one they are pursoring against Rangers. As this is the site for facts is there any of you bhoys aware of these cases.

Good luck to the hoops tonight and welcome the new Bhoy.

I assume HMRC cannot believe the Huns would have been as stupid 2 give players 2 contracts – verified by Dawell King. They not only evaded tax but broke SFA rules on third party payments. I expect a massive bill coming their way.

  6. Feel sorry for Mark Wilson. A most unlucky player but not untalented.

IMO Player of the Year last season. Not surprising it was a season largely free of injury. I think had been able to play more regularly he would have been a Tom Boyd like figure in our history & very possibly Captain.

However we are where we are and given his history I see no dishonour on either side if there is no contract renewal.

What does surprise are negative comments as to his ability, commitment etc.

    All about opinion I guess.

I don’t think Real Radio or Derek Johnstone know anything about the tax case to be honest. Well, that’s the polite way of putting it.

It is funny that DJ is attempting to speak with any knowledge on the subject though. He has still to come to terms with the offside rule.

  11. Caesar

I know what you’re saying, he’s been a good honest servant to the club and has had his share of good games. You always know what you’re going to get from him but you also know he’ll be injured after a few games and always will be. He probably shouldn’t continue playing for his health’s sake and I would doubt many clubs would take him on as he wouldn’t pass a medical.

I think a club like Celtic should be keeping him on but being pragmatic about it and the money men at the club would say it’s not value. If he’s not on huge wages then he should be kept on but otherwise I don’t think the manager could justify new contracts to the bean-counters.

  19. welcome Mikael , another right back signed, strange one considering Adam has been one of our better players this season are we sigining internationals as back up now :) Unless it is advanced planning and Mark and Cha are being released in June , possibly even let Cha find a club in Dec.

Looking at the out of contract for the summer who would you keep, only one for me is Forster, think he is developing into a good keeper and try and get some dosh for Brown in January the rest are not going to get you much.

  21. Good signing in Lustig.

That will see the end of Mastrojovic who is out of contract in the summer.

    Wilson

    Rogne

    Lustig

and one other ( Mathias Jorgensen) from next season ?

  22. Craig Gordon becomes available on a pre-contract in little over a month’s time. I think, given our most recent acquisitions, that he’d suit us more (than Forster).

  23. Cha out of contract in summer as well, might seem him off as well if Lustig can operate right back if Matthews get injured.

Adam Matthews looks as Kojo would say a Brammer for me when played in his normal position of right back.

  24. So Celtic approached WGS after the Sion Fiasco. Jeezo, they wouldn’t support him when he needed reinforcement in the team, and so he quit, and they approach him to act as a “Minder/Advisor” WTF. how insulting is that? hail hail

  25. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

I can’t get my hopes up about another free player especially a defender,we waited with our hopes up about Kelvin Wilson,Rogne was supposed to be our new Beckenbauer but he’s spent more time injured,Mathews ain’t that great that he flunked against the huns big Dan say no more,El K had a good debut n turned to the brown stuff and on and on and on,Izzy is the only good acquisition out of the lot of them and its no coincidence he wasn’t somebody already at the clubs mate.

Do some proper scouting and pay some money,I predict Lustig will join the ranks of the rest of our defence in mediocrity.
