Turning gold into mud tricky for English clubs

705

Owen Coyle has probably no idea the trouble caused in his name at Celtic.  Notions that his granny’s uncle’s cousin passed on verifiable information that either Owen rejected the Celtic job, or that he did so because he didn’t agree with the direction the club were going, were clearly nonsense at the time and are more evidently the case now.

Having just earned promotion to the English Premier League the man chose not to be interviewed for the Celtic position, a perfectly defendable decision.  He was never offered a job.  Coyle performed well at St Johnstone (without winning promotion) and did well at Burnley before managing an inevitable decline at Bolton.  He remains a good manager who I hope gets back into the game soon.

The Bolton lesson to football is stark.  On some levels the club was well run.  Good manager, good scouts, a small but faithful following, a chairman who could see the iceberg ahead, all signed up to the ambition to remain in top flight football, but their budget was forever under pressure.   Debts topped £100m, although the directors ensured public services didn’t suffer as a result of their ‘ambition’.

Three years ago Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, knew the model in the English game was unsustainable and tried to change things.  He failed, unfortunately, and was unable to produce a reverse alchemy – turning tens of millions of pounds from Sky TV each year into a 17th place finish in the Premier League.  I hope the change works for them.

You don’t belong in lurker mode ya nugget. We all have antagonistic posters that don’t like us. In all truth, if you’re gettng that reaction, mibbes your doin summit right, no? I echo one of my fav posters, Canamalar. Grow a pair amigo. :)) It was meant in the most positive sense.

Anyway, I have a point to make here! <:O

Steven Craven…..done out of a job by the new clean cut SFA.

    Hah.

I hope that man gets a job as Head of the New Federation of Scottish, English and Welsh referrees, NFSEW, when it gets created next year.

Mibbes it just me, but did that man not get punished for his integrity ??

  2. Because of greedy corporations global warming has increased. This has changed weather patterns chaotically. Crops are damaged. Food prices will rise.

In the meantime, the shock doctrine and the fake austerity made to cover the monied class will ensure we proles have less to buy essentials already increasing in price.

This cycle will spiral ever downward until a state of revolution occurs because that will be all that is left to do. When we have no more cake left to eat, we will eat the rich.

Yes but do we really need to wait until the heat capacity of the atmosphere traverses a certain threshold before the rich are eaten. I say why wait. I’ve tried a few and they are tasty which is always a sign of cholesterol so be careful!

  4. FFS you A__HOLES.

The rich are just as ugly when you eat them as they are to talk to. You feckin ignorami !!!. They are loaded with saturates, aspartame, and sodium sulphates.

The question is….should we be taking more aggressive action against them?

Oops, sorry, can’t participate in our wee discussion any more, am currently wondering how to escape two ugly dark dressed spooks and 4 Strathclyde armed polis cars….hopefully I can let you all know result when the Anti-Terrorist Act 19 whitever kicks in….otherwise, I PROMISE, I’ll send ye all a post card from Guantanamo Bay.

    Love ye All :)))))…….oh ohhh.h.hh.

  5. PS To clarify, am not being satirical, that post actually is a fair assessment of the nightmares a poor wealthy fecker has to deal with, and doesn’t take into account the daily nightmares of the “average” punter from Uddingston.

Like many of us, I’ve seen the best people I know fighting all their lives for those they care about, and eventually being subdued by local GP prescribed anaesthetics and alcohol.

It’s not really in the water is it….a wee bit more sinister…..

“Scotland manager Craig Levein previously said there were more than half a dozen players ahead of Commons in his position and that he was “really unlucky” to be left out of his initial squad.”

    ….really the best Scottish player today .. I wonder why he’s 7th???

ok? grilled? I’m open to suggestions?

  8. Err, still not being clear as I read back there.

    (Mibbes I’m mental right enough….:))

What I’m saying is, bluntly, those comfortable with their situation just now, will never understand the pressure the so-called “underclass” are facing at the moment.

The meeja and “political parties” are part of this deception.

In my opinion, they are cutting off the source of good people…”at the source”.

While the better educated argue about how better to manage the economy and arms struggles, they walk blindfolded into a new world order, where division is the key to success.

A bigger “dupe” than Minty ever experienced for sure.

At last, I hope I can read this back and finally it makes sense :))

  9. Sometimes my head implodes because of reprobates like the whingebag defective who is a complete hun who thinks he’s a jesuit intellectual.

Social justice is the most important ideal (for me,anyway) in the world. It encompasses a helluva lot and it is under attack as never before.

Anyway….I had a rejuvenating evening watching daft telly with my gentle wife, reading a good book, then read back on here and felt humbled by the encouragement.

I don’t live in Glasgow, but I’m Celtic mad, and I like the craic on here. It feels like home, but at times the resident high-wire acts necessitate a metaphorical walk round the block to clear the fiery head.

Anyway…..where else would I get educated these days? The msm have all gone to the dogs.

And I do love to give Jabba a public slagging….the grossly incompetent presstitute.

FFM..this is CQN you are on.. you are preaching to the converted apart for a few philivistines!

  11. Mags @ 01:55

    How you doin amigo?

Am hoping I cleared up the direction of my rant at 01:57.

It has disturbed me since I was warned to look back at what I say and see how it can be construed :))

Saying that, I feel I have much more to say, but am realising am not very good at it. So hopefully this at least conveys where I stand: (apols for annoying ads)

Many of us rant (making sense usually), but you have a way of doing it with poetic words, and its always a good read. Keep it up.

You gave up too easily there, especially when in my mind you had the majority here behind you. Keep it up, cos you’ve also displayed a fair depth of knowledge, which wasn’t gifted to you for nothing, amigo.

  13. Mags,

    Was jokin.

He wouldn’t give it to me anyway, since I asked him to distribute the End of the World (Part 2013) video to you all, and the other 4 preludes to that since 2008 ;)) (Part 2014 under construction)…..(and mibbes 2015, but shhhhh about that)

  14. Margaret McGill on

    FFM ..no worries

Miki67..stop flouncing ..dont let the philvistines grind you down…ps.s Ernie is not a philvistine..he is just an erudite eloquent yet unhappy individual

  15. miki67,

the hastily renounced flounce has been a regular feature on CQN at least since I got here yonks ago. Almost a rite of passage.

Kojo was a great read then, part Sears and Roebuck-clad homily, part youth team player hagiography. Twas fun.

He occasionally nattered to one of his alter-egos but it was harmless.

Then this Bill O’Reilly clone named The Singing etc touched down and it quickly got weird.

I was an avid reader now I scroll by.

    I feel sorry for him.

The days are approaching when we will have to have our day come. Absolute liberties are being taken with us by this shower of reprobate millionaire gangsters in Westminster. They are the blue, white and red in tooth and claw front line of the aristocracy who think we’ll all just laugh at the sinister buffoonery of BoJo and not care about out and out internet fraudsters like Grant Shapps, the Tory Party Chairman

This collection of Old Etonian type bumchums are busy enacting policies that Maggie, in her dampest of dreams, could only imagine.

They are hell bent on destroying the benefits system and privatising the nhs.

They are a disgrace, and are a big factor in why football attendances are down, and will continue to decrease in the next few seasons as the cuts accelerate.

At a time in our history Celtic F.C’s that is, when we are on a huge high, you’d expect to see full houses, tickets at a premium, but no. Financial reality. A financial reality based on lies, just like everything else in our wholly corrupt UKplc.

  17. Aye, agreed with Mags 100%.

Miki, I see you as gettin stronger from this and becoming a very important and entertaining poster for the future…..which is as important as anything else.

I donj’t know why you were gettin yer strings pulled, but ffs don’t let the TSD be your final straw. That tit will be all excited that I mentioned it, but you should see it as plaything, not a threat :)))

  18. Apologies for interrupting the rich man barbecue, ie the barbecuing of rich men.

San Francisco just beat Cincinatti 2-1 after 10 innings. Reds lead 2-1 in the best of 5 series and are at home for the next two games Wednesday and Thursday.

A couple of lean slices please and a bit of crackling.

‘GG posting and running off to bed.

  19. Sorry to drag on this point, but Miki67 always made entertaining points, outwith the wee central clique. I don’t get why he was attacked, but don’t really care either, as long as said poster keeps posting.

    Mags,

George Carlin, great stuff. Give you a fiver if you can find the Bill Hicks filming Waco live on Youtube……or elsewhere..:)

I have never before seen ranting being described so eloquently.

If the world has completely gone up the ole Kyber, then it is up to us all to evaluate what exactly is left for us to be happy about.

Ladies and gentlemen…I give you The Glasgow Celtic.

Love, cherish and enjoy them for they are with you ’til you expire.

    Makes sense tae me.

Brilliant. That man is the MHAIN man. Bill Hicks, and his assassination joke……
