Owen Coyle has probably no idea the trouble caused in his name at Celtic. Notions that his granny’s uncle’s cousin passed on verifiable information that either Owen rejected the Celtic job, or that he did so because he didn’t agree with the direction the club were going, were clearly nonsense at the time and are more evidently the case now.
Having just earned promotion to the English Premier League the man chose not to be interviewed for the Celtic position, a perfectly defendable decision. He was never offered a job. Coyle performed well at St Johnstone (without winning promotion) and did well at Burnley before managing an inevitable decline at Bolton. He remains a good manager who I hope gets back into the game soon.
The Bolton lesson to football is stark. On some levels the club was well run. Good manager, good scouts, a small but faithful following, a chairman who could see the iceberg ahead, all signed up to the ambition to remain in top flight football, but their budget was forever under pressure. Debts topped £100m, although the directors ensured public services didn’t suffer as a result of their ‘ambition’.
Three years ago Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, knew the model in the English game was unsustainable and tried to change things. He failed, unfortunately, and was unable to produce a reverse alchemy – turning tens of millions of pounds from Sky TV each year into a 17th place finish in the Premier League. I hope the change works for them.

Always enjoyed your posts and shared your hatred of all things Sevco…haste ye back HH
It might be long shot.
My friend who runs Legia fans website sent me mail with a question if I could help him to organise journey to Glasgow? Well, the problems is actually 2 tickets for the game against Barcelona on November, 7.
Marcin with the other person would love to go to Glasgow, watch the game and probably write article on Legia website. Can anybody get two additional tickets for Marcin ?
Can anybody

Enjoyed your company on Saturday night.
Safe journey home.

Thanks for this, maybe a bit more questions than answers, but my discussion last week with my mates was along the same lines, why the rush?
We had a share or issue, or two, to build a ground and a training complex, they need neither.
Fergus had a few wealthy investors on board, they have “many millionaires” just waiting to invest, so why the rush?
They have brougt in a few million so far by squeezing the Orange Pound until it bled, why the rush?
The answer has to be that CG has to be repaid his loan, collect his commission and take his swag bag home then leave a wee “fighting fund” for the next owners.
MadraRua – “Why fear Barca?”
With the greatest respect, every team in the world has several reasons to fear Barca. Sometimes David beats Goliath but lets remain real – Barcelona are simply light years ahead of us in terms of the quality of their players and the quality of their play. Anyone who thinks otherwise has not watched them claim every football trophy available from the Spanish Cup, to the Spanish League, to the CL, to the European Super Cup to the World Club Cup as well as their players leading contributions to Spain’s two European Championships and World Cups. On their A game they are unplayable.
We have as much chance of beating them as Stirlling Albion has of beating Rangers . . .
The laptop loyal heavies that threaten violence and become disruptive on the web when criticised.
Anyone care to speculate about alleged membership ?

Perhaps they could find a way of asking Lukasz Zaluska if he can help them.
Tallybhoy,
my initial post went out to all the pretwisted knicker brigade, it was no just you, TBM and anyone else that thinks that CQN would laugh at victims of natural disasters absurd and demeaning to your fellow posters.

I think the author is describing Celtic’s model. Develop your own players; have a global scouting network; uncover value; sell at a profit. Sounds easy. It isn’t and it requires investment. Heavy investment. That is where our money has been going since Martin O’Neill.
Sevco may well have reduced their wages to £6m per year but their problem is Ibrox. That is a noose around their neck. It is devouring every penny they get. The author has missed talking about this and if he was brave he’d say that it needs to be demolished and a brand new 40000 stadium built in its place. No doubt it would be the same historical stadium – just like my brush that has only had a new head and shaft.
He talks about sevco getting back into the top 20 of Europe. That will not happen in my lifetime. I’m 54.
Celtic First,
Thank you.
Hope to be back in December for the festive period. If so, will surely be in your neck of the woods. Best wishes to you and yours.

Rubicon,
I think there is a mega opportunity for us to grow our revenue around the whole soil media phenomenon. Whilst the changes in this arena may seem massive, I suspect we are actually still at an embryonic stage.
Many on here will have had a good laugh at Chuckles Green’s comment claiming to have a Rankers diaspora of 5 million. That would be funny , were it not for the fact that, I am pretty certain , our club has made similar comments in the past, yet, we still stumble to get over 100k followers on twitter.
With the competitive edge we have at present, I would love to see the board allocate some decent investment (£1m ?) to really explore the potential of social media.
Getting even 20% of the supposed 5 million hooked into twitter / Facebook etc , would wash itself overnight , and allow us to really build the infra-structure & revenues beyond the limitations of the SPL.
TGCW……….
Likewise and thanks……..

Marcin probably has contact with Zaluska but I think he wants to spend times with supporters, see Green Brigade, maybe talk to them. He knew I was in Glasgow, knew Celtic supporters and that’s probably the reason I got mail from him. Thanks for advise. If nothing happens, I will speak with him.
Zaluska is Legia supporter but left our club long time ago. He moved to Celtic via Korona Kielce and Dundee.
Lennybhoy……..
Good mhan………Cheers.

Newcastle United have signed a 4 year deal with wonga.com.
What odds that a 4th tier club will tie-up a similar deal when their ‘T’ is out?
Bhoys,
I have a spare ticket for nou camp in section 418.. The seat is on 3rd tier directly below where the official away celtic supporters will be.. I bought 3 tickets a few weeks back incase i didnt get any of the official away tickets for celtic end. 2 of my mates are taken 2 of the tickets so there is 1 spare.. I got sorted with tickets in official away section for the other 4 of us who are travelling.
Anybody interested gis a shou……
Hail Hail……..
Stephbhoy,
I agree on the challenges of match attendances, but , as I touched on in a later post, I think social media , could offset that ….if we are clever, and lead rather than follow ?
Michael @21.56
I don’t quite get your point about Rankers stadium.
Apologies if I a missing the obvious
Neil,
Have stated my stance…… succinct………nothing to do with twisted drawers….

If I’m homeless by November I’m blaming you. Just found a disreputable bookie who accepted my wee hoose as financial equity on that bet after I selectively read your post (more fools him though as he doesn’t know who the holds the deeds). :))

Just thought I would share this with the world…
“The best fans on the continent”
El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona (before UEFA Cup game in 2004)
“Football will survive because of teams like Celtic and its fans.”
Age Hareide (Helsingborg manager, 2012)
“This is what we need in Italy, this type of environment,” the Milan coach said. “This was the essence of sport. To hear the Celtic fans singing
and chanting after the game was incredible.”
Ancelotti (AC Milan Manager 2007, Fri. March 9th London Times).
“Rangers or Celtic?
My first feeling was Celtic. When I was 13 years old I saw for the first time in my life a European Cup final – Inter against Celtic. That image is, even today, clear in my mind; that day, that game, Jimmy Johnstone, Riva… I was so impressed. When I was in Mozambique, far away from football in Europe, I always remembered that day and that team. Especially because when they started to play in the national stadium in Portugal I thought Celtic were Sporting Lisbon because they dressed like Sporting.”
Carlos Quieroz
“……Well, Celtic fans a couple of years ago went to Seville in the Uefa Cup Final and took over 3 times the amount of fans there. There was not one bit of trouble as all the fans that had no tickets stayed in the square and had a big party. Every team should follow Celtic’s fan behaviour and that mentality”
(William Gaillard, UEFA’s director of communications and public affairs, 24/05/07 Sky Sports News)
“Celtic, like Barcelona, are more than a football club. Our clubs are a symbol of a culture and community that has not always been made welcome in their respective countries.”
Xavi (Barcelona midfielder)
“The atmosphere generated by the fans in Celtic’s stadium for our visit was the most impressive I’ve ever witnessed. The grounds of Liverpool and Manchester United are good and the hostile feeling of playing against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu is also excellent, but the atmosphere against Celtic was the best.”
Xavi (Barcelona) (Sep 2004)
“Every professional footballer should seek to play at least one game at Celtic Park. I have never felt anything like it”
Paolo Maldini (AC Milan & Italy legend)
“Celtic fans are some of the greatest supporters I know,” he said.
AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf (Oct 2007)
“The Celtic fans are incredible. It is always great to play there.”
Cristiano Ronaldo, Man U (2008)
“It will stick in my mind for ever that after the game the Celtic players were extremely good sportsmen and, together with their supporters, they gave us a standing ovation when we were receiving the cup.”
Eddy Pieters Graafland (Feyenoord goalkeeper) after the 1970 European Cup final
“Anyone going to Celtic Park now is saying, ‘You’ve got to beat that atmosphere, the energy they spend in their games’.”
Alex Ferguson (Sep 08)
“I fell a bit in love with Celtic, because the atmosphere was amazing and the crowd was magnificent, the way they behaved with the Porto fans.”
Jose Mourinho (June 2003)
“When I was at Porto my team also played in the UEFA Cup final against a Scottish side – but it was Celtic. I’ve never seen such emotional people. It was unbelievable!”
Jose Mourinho (ex-Porto Manager) looking back on thae UEFA cup final 2003 (May 2008)
“We [Man Utd] would love to have an atmosphere like that, but…”
Alex Ferguson (2008)
“This is the most fantastic support in the world.”
Franz Beckenbaur (German football legend)
“Celtic fans, you are great, you are marvellous!”
Sepp Blatter (UEFA President)
“It is absolutely spectacular to see the fans like that ”
Alberto Gilardino (Italian footballer)
The atmosphere inside Celtic Park is one of the best in Europe it’s absolutely incredible”
Sven Goran Eriksson (ex-England manager)
“The atmosphere here tonight was unbelievable and it’s an honour to play in such an arena.”
Oliver Khan (German national goalkeeper)
“I have never experienced anything like it. This is a lesson for all football clubs about how to be proper football supporters, This is the best club in the world.”
Michael Platini (French Football legend)
“The incredible thing was the people, for an opposition player it is quite incredible, i have not seen a better atmosphere from the grounds I have visited”
Steven Gerard (Liverpool player)
“I speak for everyone when I describe the behaviour of the Celtic supporters as immaculate, with all the bother concerning racial insults and hooligan behaviour, these fans were a breath of fresh air”
Barcelona Police
“When we played at Celtic Park for Bayern in the Champions League it was unbelievable and I think all our players said the same thing afterwards. The atmosphere was just totally unique. I’ve played in lots of big games and stadiums but I’ve never witnessed fans making that much noise in 90 minutes.”
Owen Hargreaves (Man U & England footballer)
“This place makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, there is nowhere like it in football, and I can see how the people love to play here and speak so highly of it”
Eto (Barcelona player)
Why is it when nevins on the telly its like I have the mute on but I havnt??
MadraRua
I’ve been saying this to meeja reading friends since the Sp Mosco game. We have a serious chance of taking at least one point from Barca at Celtic Park – horrible injury to Pujol, a player I like and have a ton of respect for, but in a sick way it re-enforced my feelings that we’re have a chance of surprising more teams this year, and his absence will definitely work in our favour.
They are weak at the back – considering they need Messi to neutralise the weakness at the back by scoring goals to make up the deficit, if he has an off night, the odds are in our favour. Of course, we’re bias. But spirit of our club has always been positive imo ;)
Look, I SAW Neil Lennon nutmeg Ronaldinho. Anything can happen.
