Underestimating teams in August, win Walfrid hospitality tomorrow

923

You and I have enough recent experience to know teams we’ve never heard of, or know little about, cannot be underestimated when it comes to European football.  We should expect, and will get, a very difficult game tomorrow.

The good news is that Hapoel Beer Shiva have lost goals in three consecutive matches after a solid defensive run which saw them keep 8 clean sheets in 12 games.  But they scored four while conceding in two of those games, the only reversal coming at home to Ashdod in the League Cup last midweek.

They shut up shop away from home in their two earlier Champions League qualifying rounds at Sheriff in Moldova after a narrow 3-2 home win, they kept out Olympiakos before winning the return 1-0 in the last round.

Unlike in previous years, we are not facing a team midseason in the playoff round; Hapoel have had a few cup games but will not open their league season until Saturday.

Hospitality for 3 people at Celtic-Hapoel Beer Shiva at Walfrid Restaurant

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us three tickets for fantastic hospitality at the Walfrid Restaurant, before, during and after tomorrow’s night’s Champions League qualifier.  This is another money can’t buy opportunity for three people to watch Celtic in a hugely important game in sumptuous comfort.

Anyone can enter the competition, however, as this prize of so incredible, I’d like everyone who enters to donate a recommended £10 to the good work of the Celtic Foundation.

You can donate at this MyDonate page.

The Celtic Foundation work to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty (H.E.L.P.) in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, and worldwide.  It’s your Foundation, you built and maintain its good work.

A few guidelines for the raffle:

Raffle closes at 21:00 BST TONIGHT, so there’s not a lot of time and I’m not expecting many entries.  You will not be entered into the competition if you donate or apply afterwards.

Enter with an email address you are going to check later tonight or early tomorrow, add a phone number, if you like.

You can enter two ways:

By making a recommended £10 donation to Celtic FC Foundation here.  Then email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com with Walfrid in the subject line, to make sure I can get in touch with you.

Or

By emailing me the names of every Celtic shirt sponsor and official kit manufacturer.  Ever. To celticquicknews@gmail.com

One of the above will be pretty easy for most of us.  The other will be pretty difficult.  Do the easy one.

Great prize.  Only open for a few hours so there will be little competition.  Go for it!

Thank you, and thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing for supporting our fundraising efforts.

In context I believe he’d make the same reply now.

Anyway, as usual these days, too much to do and not enough time!

    C’mon the Celtic.

I think the morals of the PLC need to be taken into account…i.e. they dont have any.

    Bereft.

Im totally sick of the feckers.

    Tories and half-wits, and sevconians.

They truly would sell their own grannies for a profit.

They are a disgrace to Celtic supporters imo.

    Cant tell the truth….sadly.

He was alive when we played the last named 4 teams. The 56 uprising in Hungary was even more brutally put down than the Czech one was. When we entered European competition in 62, we took on the risk of playing a team from a Soviet controlled country.

I don't think Robert Kelly's motivation was just anti-communism but one of sensitivity re being seen to conduct sporting relations with a country seen as having supported the oppression in Czechoslovakia (like Hungary had a veto!!). Still he got a knighthood out of it.

To pretend that thems are the same team, purely for money….is despicable imo.

Good luck to your brother in law for his operation.

I don’t know the circumstances, but trust in the skilled surgeons we are lucky to have in this country. I had three emergency procedures on ma heid in the space of five weeks, just over two years ago, and due to the skill of doctors and dedication of other medical staff I am here to tell the tale.

It will be a worrying time for him and the family, but favourable outcomes from bleak prognosis happen everyday in our wonderful NHS.

Tell the family to stay strong, he will need their emotional support when he is recovering from the op.

  10. Oh aye, I see a couple of the level 5 little helpers in this AM trying to spoil our day, the usual suspects, feck the board, but! Cmon the hoops? And the defenders of Palastine in as well, sooooo predictable, anyway £10 on the army belts 3-0 11/1, but? Any score with them not scoring will suit me fine, PS leave yer flags, flares, combat jackets, ban the bomb badges, an cagoules, in the hoos beside you university payment request on yer unpaid student loan.

Good news, but I think it’s too soon for him. I’d rather have Toure and O’Connell at the back tonight.

  13. In some utopian fantasy land this is a Machiavellian plot to prove to the world that they’re not the same team. The club have priced it as if they were knowing full well that fans will baulk at the price for a new team, the game won’t sell out and we’ll all be proven correct.

  14. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Like i said….the PLC are cowards, not the kind of peepul you could trust.

Social Darwinists, Masons,….you name it…..everyone welcome, except Celtic supporters.

    Yeah…pull the other fecking one.

  22. If I’m wanting to go somewhere and I don’t like the price of the venue then I don’t go simple as that, if £49 is over the top then don’t go, I’v got two tickets for the Glasgow Derby and I’m not going, and I never will go back to one either, and that’s just me and my business why I won’t go, but I’m not moaning about it, it is what it is, you either pay it or don’t pay it, some been waiting a Wee while since the start of the season for a moan, but you know eventually they will get ther, it’s in they’r DNA, malcontents are like that, never please them.

Basic economics of supply and demand. If there is a market for £49 tickets, they will sell. If there isn’t they won’t – simples. The Club is a business and they are there to make money as part of the business.

If you feel so strongly, don’t go.

You’re not a ST holder then?

And from what you’ve said, you might have been prepared to take an upgrade ticket for the TRFC game had it been cheaper?

Do you go to other games on a match by match basis, or were you going to make an exception for this one (had it been cheaper)?

  33. Amidst all the furore over the cost of game versus the Huns; surely Celtic’s relationship with Ticketmaster should be examined/questioned!

Detail re is sketchy, to say the least but there are some press releases etc., out there, e.g. “Extending their long standing relationship with Ticketmaster, Celtic have signed a new multi-year contract.

Celtic have been Ticketmaster clients for more than 20 years. The club are benefitting from all the latest Ticketmaster technology as fully outsourcing their telesales to the Ticketmaster Call Centre to expand the service to their fans and help to deal with spikes in business demand”

Seems to be that Celtic are paid an outsource fee by Ticketmaster and allow them input on Ticket prices, distribution etc.,

    As I said sketchy!

Maybe CQN could shine a light on the Celtic/Ticketmaster agreement/relationship; with the best interest of the support in mind of course.

    Anybody???
