Underestimating teams in August, win Walfrid hospitality tomorrow

923

You and I have enough recent experience to know teams we’ve never heard of, or know little about, cannot be underestimated when it comes to European football.  We should expect, and will get, a very difficult game tomorrow.

The good news is that Hapoel Beer Shiva have lost goals in three consecutive matches after a solid defensive run which saw them keep 8 clean sheets in 12 games.  But they scored four while conceding in two of those games, the only reversal coming at home to Ashdod in the League Cup last midweek.

They shut up shop away from home in their two earlier Champions League qualifying rounds at Sheriff in Moldova after a narrow 3-2 home win, they kept out Olympiakos before winning the return 1-0 in the last round.

Unlike in previous years, we are not facing a team midseason in the playoff round; Hapoel have had a few cup games but will not open their league season until Saturday.

Hospitality for 3 people at Celtic-Hapoel Beer Shiva at Walfrid Restaurant

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us three tickets for fantastic hospitality at the Walfrid Restaurant, before, during and after tomorrow’s night’s Champions League qualifier.  This is another money can’t buy opportunity for three people to watch Celtic in a hugely important game in sumptuous comfort.

Anyone can enter the competition, however, as this prize of so incredible, I’d like everyone who enters to donate a recommended £10 to the good work of the Celtic Foundation.

You can donate at this MyDonate page.

The Celtic Foundation work to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty (H.E.L.P.) in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, and worldwide.  It’s your Foundation, you built and maintain its good work.

A few guidelines for the raffle:

Raffle closes at 21:00 BST TONIGHT, so there’s not a lot of time and I’m not expecting many entries.  You will not be entered into the competition if you donate or apply afterwards.

Enter with an email address you are going to check later tonight or early tomorrow, add a phone number, if you like.

You can enter two ways:

By making a recommended £10 donation to Celtic FC Foundation here.  Then email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com with Walfrid in the subject line, to make sure I can get in touch with you.

Or

By emailing me the names of every Celtic shirt sponsor and official kit manufacturer.  Ever. To celticquicknews@gmail.com

One of the above will be pretty easy for most of us.  The other will be pretty difficult.  Do the easy one.

Great prize.  Only open for a few hours so there will be little competition.  Go for it!

Thank you, and thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing for supporting our fundraising efforts.

it is completely ignorant and arrogant of people to say that if you dont like the £49 then dont go

this is their football club they are talking about – it is not a commodity like a car or clothes that if you dont like the price then you go buy something else which is cheaper

its that kind of attitude that that shows our club has been driven in the wrong direction the last few years

a club open to everyone? Yes – but that doesnt mean we should allow it to be run and directed along those greed riddled attitudes

To be fair, the Record is only posting an opinion on the price of tickets

It’s actually surprisingly fair and balanced-even makes a suggestion that it will be the first EVER meeting of the clubs.

It’s only fair to point out that Celtic Plc provided the ammo for the article. They announced the price, and they announced it on the eve of our game.

FWIW,this is my opinion of those prices.

Bloody hell, fellas. If someone posts something on here that you disagree with,it disnae means he’s a hun.

    Well,not necessarily.

I mean, the fact that BOURNESOUPRECIPE got accused of it last night surely backs that up.

It’s a riposte which is lazy because it’s almost certainly wrong, and one which few would make face to face.

  8. On the morning of a massive CL play-off, came on here hoping for some good Celtic chat, looking for exchanges of views on team selection, tactics, general build-up and what do I find? The club being slaughtered yet again by the sanctimonious, pretentious usual suspects, led by the very, very, very, very, very, very repetitive Green Man, who I suspect will still be posting variations of the same shite at 5pm.

If I want to be insulted and condemnef for being a Celtic supporter, I’d go to Follow Follow.

  17. Wow, it’s getting a bit fierce.

Anyway, regarding the actual match tonight, by the sounds of it we can expect Hapoel to be well ogranised – I take it we are expecting them to sit back. In that case I think we need to get the wide men on the ball as near to their box as possible and get them driving into the box to invite fouls and create a bit of panic in the Hapoel defence, i.e. give the wingers the ball when they are already close to the Hapoel box. In recent years when faced with a packed defence we have just tried to pass the ball about in front of them hoping to draw them out. In my opinion that only really works up to a certain point. We need players to take responsibility and take on their opponents, we will get much greater results from that. Important game for Sinclair and Forrest.

P.S. I would also encourage Rogic to shoot as often as possible.

Got me thinking, probably a non-starter, but what about trying Rogic in the Paddy Roberts role tonight…

We are likely to be on the attack and quite high up the pitch. Rogic cutting in and firing shots off similiar to Roberts, crosses and with his naturally good link up and close control…worth a try IMO. Technically gifted players can play anywhere, and he is one.

You know, it’s probably not a bad shout. I think we would maybe then lack someone in the middle pulling the strings but I can see what you mean. A player cutting in, and into the box, on his shooting foot could cause the defenders to make rash challenges.

You may think I’m fixating on fouls too much but Paul did say we needed to practice penalties :)
