Understanding the perpetrators walked among us

485

We will never know the scale of sexual abuse in our institutions, or how far back in history they go; “historic” covers a lot of ground.  What we know for sure is the lifelong damage caused by this abuse.  Yesterday’s SFA review, apologies from clubs and the Association, and many criminal convictions, cannot repair the damage done, but it vindicates those who brought the issue to light.

It is hard to understand that the perpetrators walked among us, lived otherwise normal lives and held positions of respect.  It could be decades before we know if the problems of the past persist today, such is the imbalance of power between abuser and victim.  As a society, as families or as parents, we cannot be complacent.  Boys clubs, churches and youth organisations were targeted in the past, but if these types still walk among us, and they almost certainly do, they will look where vigilance is less.

  1. Favourite Uncle

Yup D you were a useful player in the old St Kentigern playground.

    Tap ins were my speciality.

I had only started playing football in last year of primary and I fell in love with football in that yard surrounded by better players. Vince Carey, Peter McNemeny? Peter Quinn? Vince Gormley, Frank Scanlon and Richard Brickley although he was more into rugby. My favourite was the wee fella Gerry H ??. We played one twos from our goal to theirs before I tapped the ball in. Tennis ball or small Wembley, it didnt matter to Gerry. I was just the moving wall.

By 4th year I played for 2nd team, interchanging with Stevie Docherty on the wing. Willie Hamilton? was the teacher in charge.

Charles “Chick” Kelly was a cut above us.

Sammy Henderson and John Park were a year or two ahead and both went to Celtic. I played in 5s in Engleberg with Sammy and ? Peacock in a tournament in the chalet hostel garden. My team won it.

Happy days, especially when it was our turn to head to Loretto.

In response to the many differing views posted tonight, heres my tupppenceworth. Nobody should be forced to get vaccinated, but i also feel that those not interested should at least have the courtesy to reply in order to allow others the opportunity to accept. Also, nobody should be denied NHS care due to lifestyle, such as smoking related illnesses, obesity etc.

However, for those on here suggesting or hinting at the ‘pockling’ of numbers due to some global big pharma conspiracy, and those suggesting that the NHS and care services being stretched to breaking point is part of some government backed media brain-washing exercise, you are, in my opinion, an embarrassment.

My wife manages in a care company. My daughter delayed her final term of her nursing degree last spring to instead volumteer to help out on Covid-positive locked door mental health wards. They, like thousands of their colleagues, have worked day and night for a year to treat those affected by the virus, and to protect others most at risk from contracting it. They have seen far too many in their care succumb to this virus. They have seen colleagues and friends contract the virus, and have seen many patients with unrelated ailments suffer because normal treatment for everything else has had to be delayed. Dont take my word for it, just speak to a nurse or a carer. They will tell you how close they are to breaking point in relation to the virus.

It is not a conspiracy. It is not a massive con of the public. This virus has impacted every possible part of the NHS and related care providers. So for those flippant enough to choose to decline the offer of help in the form of a vaccine, for those who think that we are all being lied to and the NHS staff do not deserve every possible form of support and co-operation to try to lower the pressure they face, I would just ask one thing.

Unless you have sound evidence that disproves the efficacy of the vaccines, or if you have evidence that confirms a grand pharma/government conspiracy, or if you have proof that the trial results are a global fraud, then i ask just this. Keep your views to yourself and shut the xxxx up. You may feel that you are in the right and the overwhelming majority are wrong, and you have every right go make that choice…for yourself. But by sharing your unfounded views and beliefs, and by not backing your views up with any science, research or evidence, then without this proof, all you are doing is giving others who are less informed, or are more easily persuaded, false information.

You have every right to decline preventative treatment for yourself, but what right do you have to stop others?

And while I’m on my soapbox, for any who have declined the vaccine who subsequently do get infected, i take it you won’t mind if you go to the very end of the line for treatment and allow others who have supported the NHS to be prioritised? I thought not…

Agree with you on the HAIRLIKESPAGHETTI post thumbs up. Sometimes you can see the look on someones face and the heart feeding the fingers as they type when you read. That was one such post.

I hear you on the Glens and Valleys. One of my best early memories (outside of the tic of course!) was being on anti Maggie marches in maybe ’82? Used to ride the train past the old Ravenscraig steel plant. Blazoned along the side of the derelict building was plastered the 25ft high logo “Ravenscraig Works.” I always said to myself “No it disnae.” From what I recollect it is a lovely modern housing estate now where the kids are no doubt being born with three arms.

Ah, the sweet smell of progress.

  4. Just read this, a wee one for all the “so we just found a vaccine then?” folks. When the worlds best minds work towards a common good together. Longer read again but time is plentiful, no, wait. Is it? Was it?

That said, a wee bit in here for the skeptics.

Until Covid, the liability vaccine, mRNA treatments never passed 1st phase trials, not conspiracy, fact, look it up.

Agreed people should be taking vaccine but people’s choice of vaccine shoul not be limited on geopolitical grounds. Both Russian and Chinese have higher efficacy then Astra-Zeneca neither use mRNA why is the choice not being made available in a capitalist country?

Both were ready long before the mRNA jabs why did the Russian approval take longer, why is the Chinese not even talked about?

Dubai are administering the Chinese vaccine, a friend of mine and his wife both got their first jab late December, both their children contracted Covid and where laid low for two weeks, neither my friend or his wife contracted even though they were in close contact making the kids comfortable. They got their second jabs after the kids recovered.

So here’s the trick, while some are critical of people refusing the vaccination are they refusing all vaccinations or only the ones they do not trust or fear.

I will not be taking Phizer, Moderna or AstraZenica by choice frankly I don’t trust them, why should I trust any drug where the supplier demands a liability waiver?

‘why should I trust any drug where the supplier demands a liability waiver?’

    ###

Can you explain why the suppliers insist on a liability waiver? Is it because the drugs are dangerous, or because they are supplying them on a non profit basis?

Do the Russian and Chinese suppliers have a similar stipulation?

I think we should be welcoming it as setting a precedent and be insisting that it is a practice that should be adopted here, at least when the pandemic is under control.

  11. Should Jim Goodwin be cited for a disrepute charge on Monday for saying that Greg Taylor is a diving cheat? Doubt it, it seems that one of our players has to be beaten, gagged and shot before a penalty is acceptable to opposition managers.

He’d be better looking at the thugs in his own team who look to intentionally main fellow professionals. In this case Lenny was correct Goodwin is a f@&#y!

Good to hear about vaccines.I posted the other day that Turkey is only using the Chinese vaccine,my first dose Tuesday, second 4 weeks later.

Meanwhile,in Yemen,2 million kids under 5 are suffering severe malnutrition,as their country is bombed daily by Saudi Arabia.Bombs supplied by the UK,who ignored calls to halt the sale of weapons to the Saudis.

Joe Bidens first call was to ban the sale of weapons to them, asked UK to follow, but we refused.

  14. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Ernie…,

Non-profit basis, are you having a laugh?

It’s because the drugs have not been tested properly, in fact as I said mRNA has never been made it past phase 1 testing before and they don’t know how it will affect people in the medium to long term, even the short term, they cannot identify who will have allergic reactions or why.

Everyone who receives/d the Pfizer and Moderna jabs should have received a warning advising them they accept the risk and waive liability rights after this warning they should be advised they under no obligation to take the jab, anyone I’ve chatted with who has received in the UK has not had this legal requirement provided, this leaves the NHS open to liability for not warning people, in England I believe this is a deliberate strategy to bankrupt what remains of their NHS.

Reuters reported the Russians are accepting liability.

The Chinese passed a law forcing vaccine makers in China to provide insurance.

No something you’ll read in the UK unless you go searching tinterweb, and no something you would go searching unless you thought through the information you already know, problem appears to be memory loss or attention span, it would undermine their own policy of giving big pharma free reign to treat their populations as Guinea pigs.

  15. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

In fact even the Indian vaccine makers must accept liability, only western big pharma demand and receive a liability waiver, whodathinkit, me for one.

GERRY MCGRADE. His dad owned a hotel in Girvan . The Scottish team used to stay there before INTERNATIONAL matches. Harry Haddock and BOBBY EVANS sat at the front of the bus and GEORGE YOUNG and the rest sat at the back singing the sash and billy boys.Things you hear.

    PETER MC MENEMY .

FRANK SCANLON never in his life a footballer.

Good luck suing the Russian state backed supplier if their product is faulty (and don’t drink the tea).

Similarly with the Chinese state backed product.

  18. The irony about the Madden situation,is unbelievable. Here we have a Scottish referee flying over to take control of a game in Greece, with the blessing ( wrong word ),of the SFA.The reason he is going,is they don’t trust any Greek referee to be neutral in this game. Can you see the problem here? When it has been mooted to have this arrangement for Celtic v Hun games, howls of derision, indignation, spluttering, attacks of the vapours, upon my soul, never heard of such a thing, can be heard from all and sundry, authorities, and Media.

To my knowledge, but if asked to bet on it,I would wager that there has never been an incident in Greece, where the referee of this particular game, has ever sat in a bar post game, celebrating with opposition fans.Or for that matter, previously ,himself or family members ever held a season ticket, for one of the two teams.Ludicrous to think it could happen.

Meanwhile the football authorities in Scotland who ignore these blatant incidents of bias, weekly, are happy to ensure,no such thing can happen,in Johnny Foreigner matches. How magnificently sporting of them.

  19. Ernie – I get what you are saying but after the uproar and lies from the Scottish government over our non essential trip to Dubai, I would be calling Madhun, sfa and Scottish Government out over this.

This is not essential as they have referees in Greece who can do this work.

By the way I dont think we should have went to Dubai but the lies from the Government and or double standards should be called ou.

Or is that us “Plebs/Taigs” just toe the line and our custodians accept it.

    Rant over 😂

I was just going to ask Auldheid about `The Mungo`. Would I have known him?

Don’t think so JIM. A nice quiet bhoy but destined for GREATNESS. Not your typical CALTON boy just as you were not a typical GARNGAD type. He was some player for someone who had only been KICKIN A BA for a year. Not a hothead or scrapper but NOT TO BE MESSED WITH just as PETER LAWELL found to his cost.

  21. I would expect Neil to start with the same xi tomorrow except for Welsh – could be Bitton or Duffy in his stead.

  22. ERNIE LYNCH,

“Good luck with seeing the Russians or Chinese”

I would agree, but that was not really the gist of Canamalars post.

  23. DAVID 66,RE my post 10.49,

They don’t have referees in Greece who can do this. Both sides don’t trust them to be neutral.

  24. DAVID66 on 13TH FEBRUARY 2021 10:50 AM

    I wouldn’t disagree.

They should highlight the hypocrisy and double standards (which NFL did at the time) and at the same time suggest that what is appropriate for Greece is even more appropriate for Scotland.

If it was handled right you might even get the backing of the refs.

If they thought they could be in with a chance of having some of the big club games around Europe (boosts their egos and their wallets) they might suddenly find they were in favour of having foreign refs here.

  25. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Ernie..,,

You asked questions and got the answers, apparently you didn’t like the answers and cast aspersions on the honor of those nations who as far as I know, have no history of reneging on such agreements, as opposed to western “democracies” who have built in loopholes to allow big pharma and medical health insurance companies renege on contractual agreements.

Both Russian and Chinese vaccines are proven to protect without side effects beyon the pain of the jab and mild flu like symptoms while the drug builds up the bodies antibody count.

Both Phizer and Moderna have produced serious side effects including deaths which they waive away as within acceptable parameters, another version of collateral damage.

The Chinese and Russian providers are private companies who can and will be sued(if found to be liable) in the country of distribution so not sure where your attitude of “good luck suing” comes from. Influenced by propaganda much?

  26. TURKEYBHOY on 13TH FEBRUARY 2021 10:59 AM

It’s relevant. It’s all very well offering something you know you’ll never deliver. The idea of some wee wifie from, for example, Salisbury suing the Russian state backed supplier for an adverse reaction to a vaccine is ridiculous.
