Unproductive costs

Lewis Morgan has had a difficult shift this season.  The 23-year-old winger was used sparingly as a squad player before the concurrent absences of Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Bayo saw him drafted into the striker role against Rennes on 28th November.

Lewis scored a good goal that day but he is not a striker.  He made another four appearances in that position before Edouard’s return, which brought the experiment to an end.  He made 17 appearances in League One for Sunderland during the second half of last season.  In the Wembley play-off final, he was brought on as an early substitute, while Aiden McGeady remained on the bench, but his time in the North East was not particularly productive.

Now he is Going to Miami for talks with Inter (not that one), with the MLS side having agreed a fee with Celtic for his permanent transfer.

There are several things about our experience with Lewis Morgan I like.  Celtic scouts considered him the top talent in the Championship, a player with the potential to make the step up.  It is good that we sign players like this.

He was loaned back to St Mirren, then after six months at Lennoxtown, out to Sunderland.  He was given a chance in the qualifiers, then put through the striker turmoil, which gave Neil Lennon a chance to assess the player.

The player has a League Cup winner’s medal and a Wembley experience, things that he will be talking about for the rest of his life, and is likely to sign a contract to keep him in Florida for a few years.  He would have hoped to hold down a first team place at Celtic, but on balance, the move from St Mirren has worked out well for him.

We have difficulty keeping players who are outstandingly successful, but they usually leave a for fee that allows us to further strengthen.  What happens with players who do not make the grade is also important.  Getting them off the wage bill, for a fee and hopefully a profit, stops the budget from being clogged by unproductive costs, a problem we have discussed on these pages since the days of Martin.

  1. I would also suggest that the SFA have now “Set a Predecent” with their treatment of Christie.

I am almost certain that any player who has his shorts pulled/tugged and maybe even twisted by an opponent in future games, will be claiming that he has been “Brutality assaulted in the groin area” and that the opponent should face an AUTOMATIC Red Card ?

I hope that Neil Lennon instructs every Celtic player to make THAT Claim to any Ref in any game where a Celtic player has his shorts pulled/tugged etc ? I also would hope that Celtic FC would DEMAND the very same retrospective punishment for ANY opponent who is seen to have did the same as Christie ?

The FACT is that if the Christie incident was ever tested in Court…The SFA would NEED to prove that Christie was acting in a “Brutal” manner and that it was a DELIBERATE grab of someones groin….somehow I dont think the SFA could ever provide such proof against Christie.

I also hope that Ryan sits down with his father and Celtic FC and decides to tell the SFA to get lost when they want him for Scotland duties.

The SFA have now declared that Christie is capable of “Brutality”….what a stain on that Bhoys character !

  2. SYDNEY TIM @ 03:45

I respect your point if, I know it well and I am not surprised that you don’t agree.

However I stand by all I said, because the evidence is there to prove.

I am concerned regarding our lack of transparency on the Rangers Euro Licence farce, and on our less than robust approach with the SFA regarding recent events. However, I don’t know all the facts, therefore I’ll ‘keep my powder dry’ at the moment.

I’ll have a stab at answering your individual points:

    1. Three times we have lost out in the CL – Malmo, Maribor & Cluj, from eminently winnable positions – these ties were lost on the pitch & the dugout, not in the boardroom.

    2. Scott Sinclair was signed and was one of the mainstays in the treble-treble- I wish him well.

3, Ronny wasn’t a failure, he was just out of his depth, however but for an outrageous referee & assistant, he would have had a treble. The Ibrox club being out of the top tier was the main factor in low season ticket sales. Brendan’s appointment was right on time.

    4. Willo Flood is an irrelevance in the Celtic story. I have accepted that PL has made mistakes, and will do again – don’t we all?

    5. On transfers, I think the summer window was successful, we have more points than last year, unfortunately we can’t stop Gerrard’s team from improving. I agree that we must ‘dig deep’ to strengthen in this window.

    6. Happy that we agree on his prowess in doing great commercial deals for the club – the new Adidas kit deal is a cracker – the merchandise will fly off the shelves.

Well there we are, I know you will disagree with me on every point, however I have given it my best shot – I believe in Peter Lawwell even with his big salary and heated driveway. HH

  3. BLUEGRASS CELT @ 04:28

I do stand by all I say about PL – can I refer you to my answer to Sydney Tim.

However as we move forward, I do agree with you that we should not be in a position to be caught – it will be gut-wrenching if we are and no doubt the inquest will begin, however we cross that bridge if, and when, we come to it. HH

  4. Can someone kindly remind me what “Punishment” did Kent receive after Punching Scott Brown on the Jaw at Celtic Park ?

Was it a straight Red Card ?

Was it a 2nd Yellow card and then sent off ?

Did Kent receive any retrospective punishment from the SFA , and did the SFA/Compliance Officer deem Kents assault to be “An Act of Brutality” ?….If not….why not ?

    cheers,

JINKYREDSTAR ‘FRIMPONG MERRILY ON HIGH’ on 10TH JANUARY 2020 11:13 PM

After the SFA shit re Ryan – if someone in our Board does not step up then we are finished – I am no newbie and I understand business and politics but this is a line in the sand.

Yep me too been watching the ‘tic since ’64, with all the up and downs that came with it. But i have NEVER EVER seen such acquiescence…..I am truely disgusted by this latest attack on the club and club on the supporters by not standing up for us. We really are treated as the lowest of the low.

  6. I am of the opinion that a Red for Ryan was predictable and not really contentious;

    I am far from being of the opinion that it was `brutal`;

    I am very much of the opinion that Morelos was treated very differently when he grabbed Ryan;

I am very much of the opinion that Morelos and Kent should receive retrospective punishments from the SFA for their inflamatory gestures.

I don`t really know what the Board can do other than make a strong Statement which would almost certainly be ridiculed by the MSSM and by no small number of our own support.

Emotionally, I would like a very strong reaction –don`t enter the Scottish Cup; ask players not to play for Scotland etc– but practically I don`t know what we can do,

( Other than follow bankiebhoy`s advice and empty Hampden!).

  7. Re Christie…

I have only now just read CQNs “article” titled…” Christie banned for Brutality”….and I am now even more confused and angered.

In the CQN article, it is clearly stated that “NONE of the Officials saw the incident”, but awarded a free kick to “Rangers”, and the Ref didnt caution Christie etc.

IF that it is TRUE …(that NO Officials saw the incident with Christie and Morloes), then WHY did Ref Clancy award a free kick ?

Morloes went down ( again) rolling about in agony, so IF Ref Clancy and his colleagues NEVER saw what had happened, WHY did he award that free kick….was it simply because Morelos rolled about on the turf ?

If Ryans was an “Act of Brutality”….WHY was Morelos perfectly able to get up and run around seconds after the brutish treatment that he had received ?

It obviously wasnt THAT “Brutal” !

    HH

  8. I see we are being linked with another player from the Dudu Dahan list of players playing in Israel

Will no one else deal with Celtic or PL

  9. Good morning CQN from a very windy and wet Garngad

Hurricane/Storm (SFA – Bawbags) is here.

Big Jimmy I hope you are still battling away and the answer to your questions regarding any offence/violent conduct any Hun has ever done on a football park is naw- no retrospective punishment as they have cartblanche to do WTF they like and say WTF they like off the park as our weak/timid/shitebag custodians are a disgrace and let them get away with it, them and their Masonic pals at the SFA. Arseholes the lot of them including our custodians, I would not piss on them if they were on fire.

Turkeybhoy – from last night, I have watched Messiah, it’s superb.

    D. :)

  10. From @DC94_

See @CelticFC have got Dudu Duhan on speed dial again as they can’t even be bothered to scout players properly and bring in genuine quality. The club stinks of lawwells pish from top to bottom.. and if Callum McGregor can’t handle the pressure he can f**k off as well 👍

  11. PETEC,

    Thx for your good wishes.

I managed to be well enough to stay out of hospital during the festive period…but I am going through some Heart Surgery this Wednesday, and I aint looking forward to being in hospital again even for a night or two ?

I have been reliably informed by medical staff that a Males Blood Count SHOULD be around ” 120 “.

When I went into hospital on December 6th, my Blood Count was only “52”..no wonder I was ill !

Hence why I had 8 Blood Transfusions etc.

    Thank again.

  12. I’ve forgotten about

Kent shooting Celtic fans in the head

    Morales, slitting Celtic fans throats

    It never happened

Neither did I see the Sevco fan ( he was not in their squad) go around our playing surface to approach the Sevco goalie

    Nope, didn’t happen

    FtSFA

Oh – I follow bankiebhoys, note, and do not attend Hamdump

I have never been to Sevco game played at Celtic park, even though I buy a season ticket

    Makes no difference,

    Both sold out

  13. Having slept on it, I feel even angrier about Ryan Christie’s (and by extension our Club’s) treatment by the SFA. Surely, this cannot be the end of the matter. Our players are BRUTALLY attacked on a regular basis with impunity by most SPFL teams but especially by members of the deid team. Where is the retrospective action against these teams, especially the one which plays in Govan?

Way beyond a joke now, imo.

Please Celtic do something. Appeasement hasn’t worked.

  14. Big Jimmy @ 9:32

    Interesting points.

    Norriem

” Oh – I follow bankiebhoys, note, and do not attend Hamdump

I have never been to Sevco game played at Celtic park, even though I buy a season ticket

    Makes no difference,”

Same for me….but it makes a difference to how I feel. Even so, it does show what we are up against in any attempt to mobilise our support to fight this corrupt and morally bankrupt SFA.

    Cheerio for now.

  15. From @FM2308

So, Ryan Christie guilty of brutality because the SFA have several people willing to agree. Yet, because ONE Referee said Morelos on Christie is fine then no issue. Good Lord.

  16. From _lippylipez_

Why are @CelticFC sitting back and accepting @ScottishFA corruption over one of our players while an out of control thug @morelos2106 who plays for @RangersFC makes gestures to our fans about slitting our throats and a blind eye is turned to it.?

  17. Big Jimmy

All the best *for your* op on Wed. Stay strong big man!

(Don’t know what happened to my ‘r’s there!)

  18. A shot over the SFA’s bows / baws?…………would be most welcome.

However, the offence that RC is “currantly” being crucified for is the least of many reasons by far imo.

BTW – it’s those influencers at large within (and withoooot) Shortie who have decided to scrutinise the Celtic player. Doubtless like-minded freens have goat the gither on that one……but Shortie should be in the cross-hairs too.

To the matter in hand……( so to speak) .The Club did respond – while not playing to the gallery I don’t see what else they could have done.

Would an Up The ‘Ra have helped ? ( a bit Like the No Surrender from that hunned-up waxwork dummy).

There was no howls of outrage at both Huns aktions as they exited Celtic Park from Scottland / scoddland. Where were the Plod? The anxious and koncerned MPs fearful of street disorder. Where were the aghast ( and rightly too) knife-crime experts and gun-violence spokespeepil? They couldn’t all have the cauld???

Scotland is sufficiently “OK” that Celtica are treated differently, especially in this manner.

No-one in the wider world questioned the huns aktions while a coupla Uncle Tims did a guid job of minimising and pooh-poohing our reasonable position on this.

The maddie in me would love for a full -on, baws-out expression of anger from those in well-paid positions of power at the Club but as fleetingly rewarding that might be, I believe it would ultimately be self-defeating and would only serve to galvanise our enemies further.

I’ve always thought we should demonstrate our best suit – Unity. A Bhoycott of Hampden would be a good start.

    Fix Fitba: Empty Hampden.

    HH.

  19. Big Jimmy – ffs, you are going through a right bad patch pal.

Try and stay positive and good luck on Wednesday and please keep posting, even if you feel down, as this place can be a wee place to share and talk to someone.🍀👍🍀👍🙏

    Hail Hail

    D. :)

  20. Celtic will say and do nothing about this, a lot of smoke on the blogs but the spineless in the boardroom will do nothing, this has built up through their complacency to the point where the support feel they dont care about the players the support or the reputation of the club, I hope that those who have skeletons in the cupboard which prevent them speaking out about the treatment our players receive are sacked or leave, they have failed the club in terms of its reputation, the players are the now described as being brutal the support racist , well done all who created this. Spineless doesnt go far enough, I wonder what Traynor really knows about our board?

Individual players must consider if they should make themselves available to play for the SFA 11 in the future, check the badge on the shirt that is who you are playing for.

  21. BIG JIMMY

  22. Where’s the Lennoxtown List of transfer targets did the cleaner take it with her???

We will go through a month of being linked/showing interest in a player for 10-15 days then oh we just got beat for that player. We will have to settle with a young project.. We have seen it all before.

We are better thinking what players we have is the players to try and win the title because our custodians are self serving cnuts.

    D. :)

  23. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

I have shown support for our Board over a number of contentious issues over the years.

I like facts before I condemn . Not assumptions.

This latest quote accusing Christie of ” brutality ” is , in my view utterly unacceptable and could only be the action of an amateurish body which appears to have not the slightest idea about the wider ramifications of its pronouncements.

Is there a precedent for the use of such language ?

I can`t think of one . From any sporting body. Violent ? Yes.

    Brutal ? Never.

Essentially an employee of Celtic has been termed a ” brute ” and will wear that description all of his sporting life.

This is completely unacceptable and our Board should make a stand .

  24. Thanks to ALL this morning for their best wishes about my wee Operation on this Wednesday.

In all honesty, ( I DO know how serious heart attacks are) and ive had Two since October 2019, but funny enough its been the very low Blood count that has felt the worse, due to the dizziness, and feeling sick and very weak , and staggering about my home etc….it was quite scary, and I hope I never experience that again.

Each day, I hope and pray that it doesnt get that low ever again, as I was staggering about etc for over Two weeks before the diagnosis.

Ive been told by a couple of Nurses that I will be like a “New Man” after this Wednesday…I would settle for the imperfect, flawed Old Man that I was until October 2019.

If they turn me into a Super Hero on Wednesday, I will be phoning Neil Lennon to give me a game LOL !

HH to all and thanks again.

  25. Dudu Duhan isn’t Cohen’s agent. John Park is working with MTA at the moment so it’s far more likely that’s the connection
