We want a win, but let’s not kid ourselves

964

We are almost week on from Morton (our only mustn’t lose game in March) but there will be a business-like atmosphere around Lennoxtown today as the team prepare to go to Ibrox, scene of three consecutive wins since Newco were promoted to top flight football.  Brendan and his players are all too aware of the big talk coming from Murray Park.  If ever they needed motivation, they didn’t need to look far.

Fans of either colour, who have been around long enough, will recognise the occasion, but this is not the way you and I used to feel about going to Ibrox.  Back in the old days I preferred to go there as slight underdogs, which was often as good as it got for Celtic fans.  Now, we travel to every ground in the country as strong favourites, no matter what our form.  This is nothing like it was in the pre-liquidation years.

I want to win, of course, but I would have been devastated if we’d lost to Morton.  Sunday’s game cannot reach me the same way.  This is a step on the road to what will hopefully be a treble, don’t pretend it is about winning the league, it’s just not.

I always had a love of St Lawrence’s church. Much preferred it to St Benedict’s.

Used to annoy my maw no end by trudging the 30-odd minutes up there to go to Mass instead of St Ben’s.

Although Father Cairns was a fine parish priest at St Benedict’s.

Used to meet him in the Jungle most home games in the mid-70s. Lovely man and a very fine priest.

He performed the requiem Mass for my mum.

  2. That’s the beauty of debate.

I agree with lots of what both Mahe and BRTH say, even though their opinions are quite different.

However, without courting controversy, if the majority of support base ever get seriously disillusioned then ironically, despite all the articulation of others, it’ll be KevJ’s “empty the park” that will get the best results.

    Art,

I believe canamalar was urged on by steignreignedsupreme. Can anyone confirm this?

    Tony,

In my day to day life I don’t interact with any Celtic fans which makes it easier. I don’t and refuse to be involved with the football side of the club .

We are separated at the moment but not officially divorced though in the future could hook up again. Depends.

Looking in that mirror and being happy with what I see is far more important to me than a piece of leather being chased around.

VFR,, you’re very right. I didn’t and don’t take that into account. That’s my mistake. It’s easy for me to believe people will stand up for their opinions as much as me but the simple truth is that’s wrong. We have all kinds of supporter and will never see everything eye to eye.

Look blog, I’m just a simple Irish boy stating what’s in my heart , right now and for the last few years .If anyone wishes me to go back to lurking as my views offend or make them uncomfortable the just say the word.

Looks like only on bar in Berlin showing the Celtic game this weekend .I thought we were a global brand. Anyway if anyone has any alternative suggestions to bar Astrastrube and a wee bit nearer the Zoological Gardens then I would be obliged.

  9. Goooooooood Evening CQN from Venice :-))))

MickTT, if still looking in, if you’ve read the post about my daughter going out to teach at a Girls school in Ghana this summer, a flight then a 10 hr bus journey, plus a further 2 hrs to reach this school.

Anyway, Laura has booked 2 * 30kg cases to take over, looking to take Girls items & Celtic goodies.

If available she would greatly appreciate taking over any spare Celtic strips

    Drop her a note

Keep posting please. Yoir view may be different to others, but it’s no less worth hearing ( or reading even )

    That’s a novelty for me.

With a wife and three daughters getting agreement is an uphill struggle :-)

  12. Watching the Hibs/Hearts game in my foreign hotel room. Some decent football being played by both team, more so Hibs since they scored. I rarely watch games that we don’t play in and find it really weird that these Scottish teams are playing decent football.

Am keeping a close eye on McGinn (family steeped in Celtic) and am really pleased to say (finally) that this boy would add something to our team.

  13. Btw, Andy walker is realky annoying, irrespective of which game he is commentating on.

There’s a lovely picture of Scott Allan striking the ball for the goal on the bbc website
