When directors and creditors are one and the same

1069

Thanks to everyone who contributed questions for the Forum last night.  It was an open, frank and productive meeting.  Draft minutes will be distributed to attendees to be checked for accuracy before being formalised, after which the meeting’s outcomes will be made public through various outlets.

One thing which is evident, and goes largely unacknowledged, is the significant contribution made by Auldheid in building the channels needed for constructive dialogue between the club and supporters.  Well done, Pat.

I see Neil Lennon in the news being “flattered” after Norwich City chief exec, and former Celtic commercial director, David McNally, told the media he believed it only prudent he keeps an eye open for a new manager, should Chris Hughton ‘leave’.  Neil answered well, refused to comment on a job which is already filled, while setting a standard answer, suitable whether he was interested or not.  There is no point firmly denying interest in a job as a subsequent refusal to do so for a different position would leave too much information on the table.

McNally is right, it is only prudent you keep an eye on these things, but can you imagine how Hughton feels when reading this stuff, or what the resulting speculation will do to the club’s relegation chances?  There is now far too much information on the table now for Hughton to be effective.

A football manager needs authority and respect, Houghton has been denied both.  Norwich should do the decent thing and pay the man his contract before they sleepwalk into the lower leagues.

It’s funny how different people read the same thing in different ways.  An announcement that a club is in discussions with a couple of existing shareholders to borrow money to provide working capital is self-explanatory in most respects.

The announcement by Newco Rangers this morning establishes that the club needs a fresh injection of money to pay its bills.  We all knew this, but the sharp-eyed will also have noted that this loan will create the club’s two major creditors.  No bank will lend to Newco, their creditors will be limited to trade suppliers, HMRC and other football clubs, all pretty low values.  This £1.5m loan is likely to give the lenders sufficient control to vote through anything they desire, should administration occur.  The controlling directors and creditors will be one and the same.

Newco Rangers has been rag-dolled since its inception by various pressure groups within the broader family who seem determined to stamp on whatever green shoots of recovery exist.  What it really needs is the kind of strong leadership this directors-creditors group can provide, leaders who will do the right thing, take the necessary medicine and stand firm against the quislings.  While others tried to get the club for free, they paid their money, continue to do so, and deserve the chance to run their club as they see fit.  For what it’s worth I think the club and its current controllers are a perfect fit.  I hope they use their largest creditor status to protect their interests.

Congratulations to STV’s Peter Smith (aged 12 ½), who scooped the Royal Television Society’s Young Talent of the Year award, achieved partly because he was prepared and able to ask hard questions, when many of his elder peers would rather eat their own toe nails.  He’s still not uncovered that Dallas Cowboys email, so more work still to be done.

Been up to my neck at work so not had a lot of time for nags, though, the one I flagged up on here that I was waiting on, Dawn Commander won midweek so I made a few quid on that. Was late in on Tuesday and backed Barca to win 2 0 in play at 10/1 when it was nil nil. Nowt apart from that.

Coupons have not been kind to me at all. Can’t seem to get 4 teams up on a setterday…….last week it was Wigan who bust me…3 up and wanted Wigan to lose…hey ho.

Colebrooke should run well at Kempton tomorrow. 2 m 5 f will suit.

  5. Morning all, not raining in the Chilterns ~ at the moment ~ yet fresh and chilled as spring approaches….

Note with interest that Newco Rangers are negotiating a 1.5M bridging loan.

Now on the first October when their accounts were published it stated they had 11m, so if they are now skint it would suggest that those who predicted SEVCO were loosing circa 1.5M per month were in the ballpark.

Thing is what do they do next month???

Anyways more to the point when these results were announced on BBC Scotland morning news they stated it thus…

Rangers lost 14M on a T/O of 19M, this is in-line with their 5 Year plan.

Woah! Thought I, in-line with their five year plan.

Not according to… But reported as fact.

Now this was noticed by Ulyses McGhee who posted as such on CQN ~ I posted on it also.

Now the thing is we are all used to the spin and havering postulated by the SMSM on all versions of The Rangers…

BUT this is different, this is the annual results of a publicly quoted Company ~ VERY different, VERY serious IMO.

The BBC were reporting as fact that a PLC who on the face of The results were IN TROUBLE were in-fact trading as planned.

Not a spokesman said (as was later reported on their website) ~ no objective anaylisis of The “fact” ~ as invariably happens when financials are reported.

No – it was reported that Rangers results were going to plan.

Now within months of this report the share price was less than half and now we see the need for emergency cash injection to avoid administration.

So either the finances were not going to plan, or there was no plan (as Mr Wallace intimated when he took charge).

Which begs the question ~ after many shareholders have taken a bath ~ why did the BBC report this as FACT?

A question best put to the BBC trustees I would suggest.

  6. Good morning CQNers,

I wrote to my constituency MP about the disgraceful scenes of undisciplined military personnel at Ibrox in September, and sent a reminder in December querying the progress.

Below is the response my MP forwarded to me.

The Right Hon Mark Francois MP

Minister of State For The Armed Forces

Thank you for your letter to Phillip Hammond on 15/01/2014 on behalf of your constituent …….. about alleged behaviour of Service Personnel at the Armed Forces Day event that took place at Ibrox Stadium on 28/09/13.

The attendance of soldiers, sailors and airmen at sporting events is a long standing tradition in this country, and is a relatively regular occurrence. Such events present a valuable opportunity for members of the public, from all walks of life, to express their support and gratitude for the vital and dangerous work undertaken by our armed forces in the service of the nation. Likewise, it underlines the fact our Armed Forces are an integral part of our society. It is important that in attending such events, those personnel behave in the correct manner.

I am aware of the worrying allegations that emerged regarding the behaviour of a small number of Armed Forces personnel at the event at Ibrox, and I can assure you that we have taken them seriously. This matter was investigated by Police Scotland, as well as separate inquiries within the Army. No charges emerged from the police investigation, and the matter was passed to the commanding Officers of those involved to decide if any discipline or administrative action should be taken.

I can assure you that sectarian behaviour, of any nature, is entirely unacceptable, and is a breach of Armed Forces values and standards. If any individual is proven to have behaved inappropriately, the suitable action will be taken.

A classic piece of political obfuscation and needless to say I’ll follow it up.

Specifically I’ll be asking why Military chiefs permitted such undisciplined scenes in light of the previous recommendations of Major General Nick Eeles, General Officer Commanding Scotland and Navy and Air Force Chiefs about such events. They reviewed the remembrance day events at Ibrox in November 2012 and recommended future events should be restricted to a 2 minute silence.

Although this wasn’t a remembrance day event, military chiefs were aware of the previous ‘over-exuberance’ of Armed Forces displays at Rangers stadium and one would have thought they’d have been alert to the situation.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/rangers-remembrance-day-parade-branded-1558062

I’ll also ask for a comment about the widely distributed picture of Armed Forces personnel holding a scarf that reads “The glorious memory Keep Ulster protestant” at the Armed Forces Day at Ibrox.

I will, of course, keep you updated of any progress on the matter.

It Will be a grave shame if good Celtic supporters are turned away by this sham – but who could blame you.

Still the Rangers PR machine and Partial SMSM reporting has being spinning the nonsense incessantly, there is a much higher level of scrutiny when it comes to reporting financials ~ they can’t make this stuff up…..

The whole hun fiasco, scandal, whatever you want to call it, has convinced me of one thing. We must get out of Scotland.

We’ve known that for 100 years the game was loaded in favour of one club. We know the reasons:- establishment Protestant club operating apartheid policy with impunity, backed by masonic ridden governing bodies. Many members of said bodies have overtly or covertly hampered the progress of the only rival to privileged club which just so happens to be supported by large immigrant Irish population. In other words football discrimination and an extension of existing sectarianism.

Events of the last two years have underlined what we already knew, but the level of corruption is even worse than I thought. Its as if a country’s secret shame has be exposed, but instead of being exorcised, its being repackaged and stored for future use.

The powers will not allow the Protestant bastion to suffer, die and disappear while the Irish Catholic club (sic) dominate. So whenever they return, be it 2, 5 or 10 years, things will be worse than they ever were. Deluded huns will be programmed to look for revenge and payback, when the rest of the country knows they should be begging forgiveness. They already possessed arrogance and a dangerous superiority complex, but this cocktail has been laced by two years of ridicule and shame and been festering away at the likes of Annan and Elgin. The numbskull violence of Manchester 08 was a classic example of what the Establishment hordes are capable of. They’ve been getting away with everything for a century (its their right dont ya know) and will continue to, until back on top. I’m just about at the point where I can say I’m finished with the game in Scotland, but the club I love are in my blood. I’ve been dining out on Lisbon since I watched it as a 12 year old on telly, and I feel I’ll always owe Celtic for 47 years of the most joyous memory. But the only way forward now is out of here.

Cap doffed to you sir. That – was brilliant.

I’ll always be grounded by the philosophy of Mr. Stein…do the huns on the pitch, then stand back and watch the fall-out….but, here’s the trick…to do the huns on the pitch with an insatiable appetite for their humiliation – we need a ‘manager’ not, a ‘puppet’ who’ll be easily reigned-in by the ‘bored’ when, the humiliation reaches an non-cosy O## F### level and, the tendancy kicks in at executive level to – pull the handbrake on or, put the tools away. Ye see…some fholk on here are swallowing the tosh that fat Sally came away with the other week when he said he’d need £30 mill to challenge Celtic ? Eh ?

Now, by my reckoning….we’ve got – FF, AM, VVD, KC and thats yer wack. imho

I dont think that Celtic would get £3 mill for the rest of the entire team !!!

The Norwegian ghuy and, LG – the jury is still out – obviously.

But, if that isny mind-games from the sleekit one then – I’ve got it wrong(whit, me ?)

Anyway, a manager whose – astute, ‘shady’, ‘wide’, streetwise, ruthless – is what is needed imho.

As opposed to one who has been bought by the ‘bored’ and, gets his cut from player sales all to the detriment of the quality of the product on the pitch which is ‘hugely’ to blame for the ever increasing amount of empty seats inside CP. imho

The ruthless bit has always fascinated me as, I knew that, first and foremost…to be the Sellic manager – ye had to be a dirty bassa who , knows what is going on in the opposing managers heid !!!

Mr Stein was the World Champion at the last bit there. imho

Anyway – Take Care Tims – Off oot.

  16. SFTB thank you for your considered response to the named person bill last night. Now that Benny my stalker has slinked off I read your opinion with interest. I did surmise that there was probably some good intent somewhere behind this idea. However a couple of points. Firstly what’s the purpose of this named individual? As you pointed out this has not made any difference in the highlands so what’s the point behind it. Secondly what about conflict of interest? As I said last night if the named person is a head teacher and I want to complain about the school isn’t there a conflict of interest?

And lastly the scottish parliament have displayed and overbearing tendency to criminalise and over legislate. When you hear our justice minister talk it’s clear he has a loathing and mistrust of ordinary people and a vie that they can’t be trusted or look after themselves. The police are utterly politicised and actually set the agenda for our parliament. This act is a sign that the scottish parliament remains immature and far too interested in impacting peoples private lives.
