Thanks to everyone who contributed questions for the Forum last night. It was an open, frank and productive meeting. Draft minutes will be distributed to attendees to be checked for accuracy before being formalised, after which the meeting’s outcomes will be made public through various outlets.
One thing which is evident, and goes largely unacknowledged, is the significant contribution made by Auldheid in building the channels needed for constructive dialogue between the club and supporters. Well done, Pat.
I see Neil Lennon in the news being “flattered” after Norwich City chief exec, and former Celtic commercial director, David McNally, told the media he believed it only prudent he keeps an eye open for a new manager, should Chris Hughton ‘leave’. Neil answered well, refused to comment on a job which is already filled, while setting a standard answer, suitable whether he was interested or not. There is no point firmly denying interest in a job as a subsequent refusal to do so for a different position would leave too much information on the table.
McNally is right, it is only prudent you keep an eye on these things, but can you imagine how Hughton feels when reading this stuff, or what the resulting speculation will do to the club’s relegation chances? There is now far too much information on the table now for Hughton to be effective.
A football manager needs authority and respect, Houghton has been denied both. Norwich should do the decent thing and pay the man his contract before they sleepwalk into the lower leagues.
It’s funny how different people read the same thing in different ways. An announcement that a club is in discussions with a couple of existing shareholders to borrow money to provide working capital is self-explanatory in most respects.
The announcement by Newco Rangers this morning establishes that the club needs a fresh injection of money to pay its bills. We all knew this, but the sharp-eyed will also have noted that this loan will create the club’s two major creditors. No bank will lend to Newco, their creditors will be limited to trade suppliers, HMRC and other football clubs, all pretty low values. This £1.5m loan is likely to give the lenders sufficient control to vote through anything they desire, should administration occur. The controlling directors and creditors will be one and the same.
Newco Rangers has been rag-dolled since its inception by various pressure groups within the broader family who seem determined to stamp on whatever green shoots of recovery exist. What it really needs is the kind of strong leadership this directors-creditors group can provide, leaders who will do the right thing, take the necessary medicine and stand firm against the quislings. While others tried to get the club for free, they paid their money, continue to do so, and deserve the chance to run their club as they see fit. For what it’s worth I think the club and its current controllers are a perfect fit. I hope they use their largest creditor status to protect their interests.
Congratulations to STV’s Peter Smith (aged 12 ½), who scooped the Royal Television Society’s Young Talent of the Year award, achieved partly because he was prepared and able to ask hard questions, when many of his elder peers would rather eat their own toe nails. He’s still not uncovered that Dallas Cowboys email, so more work still to be done.

I really do wish people would stop linking a YES vote in September to support for Alex Salmond & the SNP.
The quickest way to get rid of these people is to vote for an independent Scotland.
A YES vote will render them redundant & without any influence on the Socialist Republic of Scotland.
They will have served their purpose & will disappear like snow off a dyke.
Only then will the real battle for Scotland’s political future begin.
NEIL LENNON has revealed his ultimate wish is to manage in the English top flight – with Celtic.
The Hoops gaffer admitted: ” My ideal scenario would be if Celtic were to move to England.
“To be in charge of them then would be perfect for me.
“But whether that would ever come about, I don’t know. We all have ambitions to try different challenges, but those chances have to come up.
“It’s such a precious job being a manager, there are so many good ones out of work at the moment and the lifespan in the job seems to be getting shorter.
“So, you can’t just say ‘I am going to England to manage one day’ because there is no guarantee that would ever happen.
“You have to make the most of what you have.”
When is the actual vote in Scotland..??
KK
Very well put sir.
Cannot comprehend the amount of British Unionists who post here?
I’ve said it before–start a proper Scottish Republican Party. No Queen, no union flag, hoke out the masons, send the referees to Syria, and start all over again. Oh, and have a William Wallace public holiday on the previous queen’s birthday.

Here’s a poem written by a grown up.
If Scotland votes for Independence
Will the limestone lochs of Durness become more limey
Will Scots porridge oats be much more porridgey
Will Arbroath smokies be far smokier
And make our Cullen Skink a whole lot skinkier
Will Independence make the heather bloom more purple
The gorse more yellow sea campion more pink
And will the bluebells below the Duke’s Pass in the Trossachs
More thoroughly carpet the woods
If we vote yes
Will the Tartan Army throw off its inhibitions
And really get themselves about
Will Celtic Rangers Hibs and Hearts at last command the passion of the fans
Will Inverness Caley Thistle find a more patriotic name
And will the Sun and Daily Record finally give some space to football
Will the Proclaimers rediscover their Dundee accents
Will Phil Cunningham get his act together on that box of his
And Aly Bain get to grips with his Shetland fiddle
Will Paolo Nutini sound more Paisley
And Capercaille a bit more Gaely
If Scotland was left to go it alone
Would Bannockburn be undeniable
The Saltire flag more flyable
The Bank of Scotland liable
The crofting way of life more viable
The Wee Free Church more pliable
The Orange marchers justifiable
The summer weather more reliable
And would the deep fried Mars bar cease to be as fryable
If Scotland goes its own way
Will the Langholm Common Riding be more common
Will the cabers birl further in bonny Braemar
Will the flames of Up Helly Aa more brightly burn
Will Abermuchty and Auchtergeldy take it in turn
To have the longest village main street in the land
Will smir and dreich and gloaming forebye
And drookit and glaikit an’ aw naw an’ och aye
Burst forth like a spring when Scotland is free
An’ gallus an’ stumour an’ oh michty me
If Scotland says aye
Will St. Andrews be the home of golf
Will the curling stones roar on the Lake of Menteith
Will the camans clash loud in the Camanachd Cup
Will the Guest House in Oban be always full up
Will the Rest and Be Thankful be thankful at last
The Beallach to Applecross more like a pass
Will the Old Man of Hoy and the Old Man of Stoer
And Buachaille Etive Beg and Buachaille Etive Mhor
Stand taller and prouder and more recognizable
And the chip on oor shooders a wee bit less sizeable
Will Glaswegians be more gallus
Will you have had your tea in Edinburgh
Will Aberdonians be more mean
And will all the stereotypes
Of every city town and village in the land be reinforced
If Scotland does its ain thing
Will Scotland be more Scottish
I hae ma doots.

It is however Salmond and the SNP that are setting the terms by which we propose to leave the UK and don’t for one minute think that Alex, Nicola and the rest will quietly disappear into the sunset if they get their wish. The transitional period that would result would be a great oportunity to get their feet under the table and dominate institutions for a long time, albeit probably not under the SNP banner.

On Player of the Year dances – in the late 70s the Glasgow University CSC POTY night was a riotous affair – one in particular when Pat McCluskey drank everyone under the table and most people fell asleep where they fell – happy days.
You don’t get players doing that nowadays.
Re Independence,I wont have a vote but tend to fall on the ‘yes’ side,I dont have any great knowledge of economics so I tend to base my opinion looking at things like generational unemployment and all its negative by products,I’d like to think that Scotland itself would offer hope and solutions to poverty,I know theres no quick and easy fix but change has to start somewhere and independence looks like the best chance.
Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES

It is difficult to answer a question that is not asked although a late entry on the club’s approach to the next 5 years that arrived after the deadline happened to be addressed at the Forum.
It will be in the minutes of the meeting that Paul mentioned.
The matter of bums on seats came up in another context which will also be covered in the minutes. It explains why some of the missing crowd are missing and I expect it to be a matter of debate .
If you want to watch players of the standard that would encourage anyone to turn up on a cold wet day to watch then you have to pay top dollar.
It is simple economics that the wages of that kind of player if money was the only attraction needs a significant rise in crowd numbers to finance.
Every £5M on the wage bill needs 10,000 increase in SBsales @£500 a pop. Now that is unlikely but it is the hard financial reality that you rant against not the balance sheet which is but a reflection of that reality.
Now crowd size is obviously a concern but it is not a stick to beat Celtic with but a reason to ask ourselves as supporters what can we do to to compensate for any income lost? Unless of course the income loss is already compensated for by other revenue-CL money for example. In which case falling crowds are less of a concern than you make out.
However if you want better you have to pay more and one thing that stood out at the Forum was the time and energy not to mention money the supporter associations put in trying to get bums on seats.
Without these guys the position would be worse. So what are YOU doing to help these guys make sure there is a crowd to give the game an atmosphere for you ( and I when I am overeas) to watch on TV or Celtic TV.
The folk who do attend games in effect subsidise TV viewers and TV or streaming is one of the many, if not main cause of smaller crowds.
So its all very well in the comfort of our deck chairs to blame the club and wave the balance sheet stick, the question is are you putting in anything like those who do attend and in so doing give viewers a game to watch?
Perhaps if viewers were to pay that bit more direct to Celtic within what they can afford ( and the Overseas Season Ticket is but one way) then the burden of improving player quality through increased revenue would be more equitably shared across the total support base.
That could lead to lower ticket prices which would help increase the crowd but at no extra overall cost.
Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES.
The SNP have declared that they will not disband after a Yes vote. Alex is far too shrewd for that.
Socialist Republic of Scotland I don’t think so. Alex and Lizzy are too cosy for that and although Alex may like a crown I’m afraid Idi Amin has beaten him to it.

A fair few quid would be released once trident goes!
Wouldn’t it be an odd situation where an independent Scotland elects a party to govern it when that very same party did not want independence in the first place?

Re your question on conflict of interest. As I said earlier I don’t know enough about it to answer. However I now see the STBF and Battered Bunnet have posted. You may find your answer there.
The only point I was making was that this wasn’t solely an SNP thing.
I can also see where you are coming from and it wouldn’t be difficult to agree with of the point you’ve raised.
As I said earlier SNP take a battering, mostly because of the act which get folks so upset.
Maybe I’m thick but I don’t see it having any great impact on most of our lives. I believe there has been one arrest and as I don’t know the circumstances I cannot comment. But when I watched that video a few weeks ago that cretin who mansges The Loudon says that because of the act they refrain from singing FTP and Fenian blood. This isn’t done voluntarily.
I think this is maybe the first occasion ever when Tims and Huns unite against something as they hate the act also

It might not be utopia when we get Independence but at we WILL get
A government we vote. I’m sick of all the years of Tory rule : and then when Bambi Blair and his Luvvies got in they compromised and diluted on the policies we had spent years fighting for
Early pick for me,not got a clue about the price.

I’ll try Colebrooke in the 4 25 pm Kempton.
A stable I know well, and Colebrooke is a bit of a monkey who never runs the same race twice in a row, but is capable. 2 m 5f will suit him if he puts his best foot forward, but as I say, you never know what he is gonna do from one race to the next. He’s very well at home and the yard have fired in a few winners recently. The question is…will he pull, or, be pulled up?
I’ll hope today is a “going” day for him.
