When directors and creditors are one and the same

1069

Thanks to everyone who contributed questions for the Forum last night.  It was an open, frank and productive meeting.  Draft minutes will be distributed to attendees to be checked for accuracy before being formalised, after which the meeting’s outcomes will be made public through various outlets.

One thing which is evident, and goes largely unacknowledged, is the significant contribution made by Auldheid in building the channels needed for constructive dialogue between the club and supporters.  Well done, Pat.

I see Neil Lennon in the news being “flattered” after Norwich City chief exec, and former Celtic commercial director, David McNally, told the media he believed it only prudent he keeps an eye open for a new manager, should Chris Hughton ‘leave’.  Neil answered well, refused to comment on a job which is already filled, while setting a standard answer, suitable whether he was interested or not.  There is no point firmly denying interest in a job as a subsequent refusal to do so for a different position would leave too much information on the table.

McNally is right, it is only prudent you keep an eye on these things, but can you imagine how Hughton feels when reading this stuff, or what the resulting speculation will do to the club’s relegation chances?  There is now far too much information on the table now for Hughton to be effective.

A football manager needs authority and respect, Houghton has been denied both.  Norwich should do the decent thing and pay the man his contract before they sleepwalk into the lower leagues.

It’s funny how different people read the same thing in different ways.  An announcement that a club is in discussions with a couple of existing shareholders to borrow money to provide working capital is self-explanatory in most respects.

The announcement by Newco Rangers this morning establishes that the club needs a fresh injection of money to pay its bills.  We all knew this, but the sharp-eyed will also have noted that this loan will create the club’s two major creditors.  No bank will lend to Newco, their creditors will be limited to trade suppliers, HMRC and other football clubs, all pretty low values.  This £1.5m loan is likely to give the lenders sufficient control to vote through anything they desire, should administration occur.  The controlling directors and creditors will be one and the same.

Newco Rangers has been rag-dolled since its inception by various pressure groups within the broader family who seem determined to stamp on whatever green shoots of recovery exist.  What it really needs is the kind of strong leadership this directors-creditors group can provide, leaders who will do the right thing, take the necessary medicine and stand firm against the quislings.  While others tried to get the club for free, they paid their money, continue to do so, and deserve the chance to run their club as they see fit.  For what it’s worth I think the club and its current controllers are a perfect fit.  I hope they use their largest creditor status to protect their interests.

Congratulations to STV’s Peter Smith (aged 12 ½), who scooped the Royal Television Society’s Young Talent of the Year award, achieved partly because he was prepared and able to ask hard questions, when many of his elder peers would rather eat their own toe nails.  He’s still not uncovered that Dallas Cowboys email, so more work still to be done.

So living/working abroad prevents you knowing what is going on in Scotland’s parliament. Really?

  2. Benny you said in your post you were aware and showed disgust. Where did you show that disgust?

C’mon what did you do? Did you act? Did you complain? Did you campaign?

  3. Yeah it does Benny. Busty lives and all that” if I missed it inputs not a crime but you didn’t and did nothing…..

I’m just happy that my wee cherubs are of an age where they wont we assigned a Gestapo type to look after them and ensure their wellbeing. I always thought that was my job.

Joking aside, this is bureaucracy gone mad and seems to serve no one, not even the children its supposed to protect.

Is our game next week on the telly?

I went to George Adam’s surgery.

I wrote letters to Neil Bibby, Mary Fee & Margaret McDougal.

I didn’t bother with the Tories or other MSPs.

Do you know these people or do I need to explain that they represent Paisley and the West of Scotland?

  7. ACGR – it’s one of those things that probably sounds like a reasonable idea when you’re chatting in a Parliamentary bar, but as soon as you start going through the logistics you stop and go “Nah, it can’t work”. At least you should.

Fantastic post…couldn’t agree more. I notice we are the same age and have the same dilemma.

How the heck do we get justice without abandoning/harming Celtic. There must be a way?

Weeminger, as I say, it doesn’t affect me as the battered and bruised fruit of my lions are hugmoungous now. Seems unworkable. I’ll no doubt get the full rhyme and verse from the current woman in ACGR towers as it affects her and her work but I’m not getting drawn into the squabble about it. She might be one of those made responsible. That’s fine as long as she disany bring the wee fekers home

I just want to know if the game is on the telly on Tuesday?

  10. Good for you Benny but apart from stalking me what did they all say? Why didn’t you post it on this site before?

  11. C’mon Benny. I know you are obsessed by me. I don’t blame you. I am fab after all. But what did they all say Benny?

Winning Captains, that’s not much help. Just make sure you have bouncers on the door who have no sense of fashion but a sense of humour.

TET, it will be the old transistor radio for me then.

  13. I am reluctant to get dragged into the debate on the Named Person role because it started beyond Spinal Tap’s level 11 and has cranked up from there.

I will post my perspective and I will not get dragged into this debate.

Firstly, this bill is not an SNP stand alone policy. It was agreed by all parties bar the Tories, who agree with most of it but want to pander a bit to the Christian Right (not usually an area you look to in defending personal freedoms). It grew out of Social Work thinking and requests from parent groups and young people’s advocates for a more co-ordinated state response to collating information.

The Concept of a Named Person, has alarmed people largely because of presentation issues and a failure to explain. Plus, some of those quickest to react have not been too disposed to listen to explanations.

The Named Person would be better described as a Point-of-Contact or Information Co-ordinator. They would usually represent the agency best suited to the child’s age and stage i.e. Health Visitor for early months, Nursery Nurse and School personnel for the majority in the 3 to 16 age range.

They do not replace or surpass parents and they have been granted no additional powers that have not always been available to the local authority personnel, who have always had the duty to assess and decide on whether adequate care is being given to a child in a family situation.

There have been Named Persons available to young people with Additional Support Needs in Scotland since the mid-90s and they have operated without fuss. In the field of Child Protection, there have been Safeguarders and Advocates (not the Legally trained ones) to represent the Young Person’s voice in decision making, for just as long.

This current application of a Universal Named Person for every Child, as envisaged by this Act, has been rolled out in Highland Region for over 3 years now and no-one noticed anything much different.

Government and the State already have duties outlined to monitor and assess children to see that they are thriving and that includes making observations on how they are coping with family life (to look for issues of abuse, neglect and emotional care mostly). The State’s right to intervene is heavily limited by a variety of personal rights act, including the UN Convention on Human Rights, the Children Act, and many other pieces of legislation. They are not going to increase Receptions into Care because a teacher disputes how you handle a child; most professionals have the opposite pressure i.e to reduce Receptions into Care because the State is a poor parent generally.

You should be re-assured that the state has neither the resources, the intention, or the capability to get any more involved in the nitty gritty of family life. 95% plus of families will be blissfully aware of any change as there will be no need for action and, therefore, no actions undertaken.

I understand that people are spooked by the language and the overtones. I do get that. I wish they had called it something different.

I am wholly in favour of civil liberties and I am not at all ill disposed to a bit of SNP or politician bashing.

This Bill does not alarm me at all. The debate around it spooks me more than the Act itself.

Civil Liberties organisations are not raising objections here; right wing groups are. That should tell you something.

I would relish another opportunity to bash the SNP as the ObaF Act did reveal an Authoritarian and Populist tendency in them.

This Act is not as authoritarian as it sounds. It is a pious aspiration more than an intrusive offence. In the 3 years of its application in Highland region it caused not one bit of fuss.

I have said my piece. I think we need to inform ourselves more before we choose whether it’s worth heading for the barricades.

There are many genuine threats to civil liberties in the world. This Act is not one of them.

    Good Night CQN

  15. The ‘FUD Factor’ is a potent weapon of choice for governments and media alike; even our own PLC have resorted to it on occasion. The best defence against FUD is scepticism and public challenge. But you must first identify the FUD before responding appropriately. In the media it is often hidden behind views from nowhere, a common ploy to cultivate an -agenda driven – belief, without knowingly supplying all the facts and /or balance.

The SPL/SFA Armageddon Theory with regards the demise and banishment of Rangers(IL) is a classic example of both the media and the ‘government lowering themselves to courting FUD. The Armageddon Theory caused the FUD’o’meter to go off the scale. However, in this instance the deceit, and attempted deceits, were so transparent, every football supporter, or fan, in Scotland, and beyond, saw through it and took collective appropriate actions.

Reverse FUD, colloquially known as: FLIP-FUD (Fearless Unadulterated Dissimulations).

Again this is a weapon of deceit employed by governments, corporations, and the media. We can see FLIP-FUD in action by the media (and the silence of the SFA) this past twenty-four hours. They played down the significance of the loan being negotiated between The Rangers and others. The reason for this is simple, though the eventual consequences are debatable. The ramifications of such a loan, should it go through, were dumbed down so much so that it did not register so much as a snort on the FUD’o’meter.

Optimistic Celtic Supporters are clearing Supermarket shelves freezers of Jelly and Ice Cream.

Pessimistic Celtic Supporters are either praying to their God for deliverance, or, invoking the Just-world Hypothesis.

Optimistic Huns once again believe every word and are once again comfortably duped and look forward to winning the European Cup, soon.

Pessimistic Huns once again believe every word and are once again comfortably duped and curse the fact that although they are going to win the European Cup soon, they can’t ever be the first Scottish team to do so.

With FUD and ‘views from nowhere’ in mind, I think, for the good of man, the consumption of Dihydrogen monoxide should be made illegal.

Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colourless and odourless chemical compound, also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters. The atomic components of DHMO are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol. It kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

    Dihydrogen monoxide:

    • is called “hydroxyl acid”, the substance is the major component of acid rain.

    • contributes to the “greenhouse effect”.

    • may cause severe burns.

    • is fatal if inhaled.

    • contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.

    • accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.

    • may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.

    • has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

    • as an industrial solvent and coolant.

    • in nuclear power plants.

    • in the production of Styrofoam.

    • as a fire retardant.

    • in many forms of cruel animal research.

    • in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, product remains contaminated by this chemical.

    • as an additive in certain “junk-foods” and other food products.

  20. Setting free the bears, because right wing groups (or groups you deem as being right wing) are against the advocate “state guardian” thing does not mean you should dismiss it. If you allow yourself to fall for the old divide and conquer argument you will miss what you should rightly be concerned about, in fact your spiel defending the act could have be written by a grand master themselves….. Curious. Remember first they came for the socialist and the conservative then they came for the catholic but I did not speak out because I was an atheist and then they came for me…. Thats how all totalitarian systems start and its sad people still havent grasped fact that marx was not about egalitarianism at all, rather he viewed that life should be determined to have value only by those agents with more capabilities. Where socialism has worked is not because they have interpreted marx correctly but rather they have held an idealised egalitarian fairness doctrine at heart which is not actually at all in line with the works of what marx has written.

Where people have understood all too well the actually philosophies of marx is where attrocities have happened, for very little of it was about wealth distribution and equality and very much of it was about the elite deciding what was best for others rather than a dictatorship of equals where if one is harmed we are all harmed but if ones individuals rights conflict with that of societies it is judged in the best interests of society to make reasonable provision for protection of that individuals rights. Ideolized marxism which is not what his words actually convey is what is practiced in many countries where democratic socialism or communism has worked, where his actuall writings where understood their has been much blood shed and oppression of individualism and little genuine redistribution of wealth for it was never about making us all equal and respecting human dignity.

Basterdized versions of it however interpret on what they think he was righting and usually end up with a more humane version of it, and more genuine redistribution of wealth from the rich to the poort than his writings ever speak of, and thank god the folks did and do misunderstand his writings and often do not take his more insane points on board.

Auldheid . A lot of talk on here about them, trying to survive until they collect the season ticket money . Does that money not part belong to ticketus . Also if true about the big increase in cash for European qualification after BT take over , by not administering the full hose to them , and taking into account the helping hand from all in sundry , SFA , MIBS, etc that we know will play a huge part in their revival . Do you agree that our board have taken one hellava gamble with our clubs finances .

    ———————————-

Nope They are laughing all the way to the bank.

Rangers stiffed Ticketus so any SB money coming in will go into their coffers . They could break even next season if they bring costs down and increase SB prices by half and crowds remain the same ( a bit of an ask but not doing so will be sold to their supporters as delaying one more season to the top) so seeing through to SB sale time is vital for survival.

The earliest they could get a CL place before Celtic is season 2016/17 and to do that they would need to get promotion in two successive seasons this one 2013/14 and next 2014/15 and in their first season in the top tier (15/16) win the title to be eligible for season 2016/17 (by which time they will have been SFA members by more than three years ).

Realistically it will take them more than one season in the top tier so lets say 2017/18 which means no CL for at least 4 years.

If Celtic qualify for the next 3 years CL, that money will provide a cushion and if they return as rivals our gates will more than match theirs and we will out wage them.

So I think it could be quite a while before they can compete with us financially if of course they are only allowed to spend what they earn, something that UEFA break even requirements will be insisting on by then.

With regard to us putting a hose in their mouth this is one of those fallacies like the need for 3 years accounts that will just not die. Celtic did not and do not have that power so quite how they can be accused of not using a hose they never held, I do not know.

The expression came from SDM who obviously had delusions of grandeur, although with his chummy relationship with the banks and SFA , which Celtic do not have, he might conceivably had that power. Its hubris on his part and the idea that Celtic had hosing power and that if they had they would use it is mistaken in fact and misunderstanding of the difference between us and them.
