When directors and creditors are one and the same

1069

Thanks to everyone who contributed questions for the Forum last night.  It was an open, frank and productive meeting.  Draft minutes will be distributed to attendees to be checked for accuracy before being formalised, after which the meeting’s outcomes will be made public through various outlets.

One thing which is evident, and goes largely unacknowledged, is the significant contribution made by Auldheid in building the channels needed for constructive dialogue between the club and supporters.  Well done, Pat.

I see Neil Lennon in the news being “flattered” after Norwich City chief exec, and former Celtic commercial director, David McNally, told the media he believed it only prudent he keeps an eye open for a new manager, should Chris Hughton ‘leave’.  Neil answered well, refused to comment on a job which is already filled, while setting a standard answer, suitable whether he was interested or not.  There is no point firmly denying interest in a job as a subsequent refusal to do so for a different position would leave too much information on the table.

McNally is right, it is only prudent you keep an eye on these things, but can you imagine how Hughton feels when reading this stuff, or what the resulting speculation will do to the club’s relegation chances?  There is now far too much information on the table now for Hughton to be effective.

A football manager needs authority and respect, Houghton has been denied both.  Norwich should do the decent thing and pay the man his contract before they sleepwalk into the lower leagues.

It’s funny how different people read the same thing in different ways.  An announcement that a club is in discussions with a couple of existing shareholders to borrow money to provide working capital is self-explanatory in most respects.

The announcement by Newco Rangers this morning establishes that the club needs a fresh injection of money to pay its bills.  We all knew this, but the sharp-eyed will also have noted that this loan will create the club’s two major creditors.  No bank will lend to Newco, their creditors will be limited to trade suppliers, HMRC and other football clubs, all pretty low values.  This £1.5m loan is likely to give the lenders sufficient control to vote through anything they desire, should administration occur.  The controlling directors and creditors will be one and the same.

Newco Rangers has been rag-dolled since its inception by various pressure groups within the broader family who seem determined to stamp on whatever green shoots of recovery exist.  What it really needs is the kind of strong leadership this directors-creditors group can provide, leaders who will do the right thing, take the necessary medicine and stand firm against the quislings.  While others tried to get the club for free, they paid their money, continue to do so, and deserve the chance to run their club as they see fit.  For what it’s worth I think the club and its current controllers are a perfect fit.  I hope they use their largest creditor status to protect their interests.

Congratulations to STV’s Peter Smith (aged 12 ½), who scooped the Royal Television Society’s Young Talent of the Year award, achieved partly because he was prepared and able to ask hard questions, when many of his elder peers would rather eat their own toe nails.  He’s still not uncovered that Dallas Cowboys email, so more work still to be done.

Stop blaming SNP. Every party has signed up for it, whether you agree or disagree with the premise. And please take cognizance of the fact that you Labour Luvvies started the process in 2004

Maybe a tad harsh on the club there but certainly being based in Livingston is a stumbling block. In years gone by we had Morten Weighorst attend our dance. He had come through his illness and not long returned to action. Our actual player of the year voted by the members was Andreas Thom. We were told that Morten would be able to attend as Andreas was not available. We were delighted that Morten had made the effort to come and the trophy was engraved with his name. He was our POTY. Unfortunately Morten was a bit late I think Celtic had played away that day. Our dance was usually arranged for an away match so that the majority of members could get ready and arrive on time and stay sober!

Morten got lost on his way to the hotel in Bathgate and stopped at a garage for directions. The woman at the till asked him why he was looking for the venue and he said he was attending a CSC dance. She was a Celtic fan and asked what players were going. Morten regaled this tale during his speech and spoke very well with some great humour in his half Scottish accent. When he was accepting the trophy on behalf of Andreas our president cut in and said he was our player of the year it was an emotional moment. The big man was visibly moved. It was a nice touch. You could see it meant a lot to him maybe it helped in his rehabilition. Maybe not. It certainly wouldn’t have done him any harm. It allowed him to connect though. He got what it was all about. You could tell that on the night. He made an effort. Everyone appreciated that. He was warmly received. He was not a star player. I’m not being unkind with that assessment. Morten was a fine player. Anyone who seen his rehab for his injury would be shocked. The guy virtually had to learn to walk again. He was an excellent guest for us.

Maybe being in West Lothian doesn’t help us but having a player secured allows you to get the wheels in motion to stage such an event.

The games being on Sunday’s doesn’t help either. The club can;t assure you have a player because a match may be rescheduled and the player is with the team in a hotel beforehand. If the club could have various former players on some kind of rota system or similar that would help.

The fans are vital to the club and they must be able to connect with the players if possible. If former players are as close as they get it’s a start!

  8. Billy bhoy I am blaming the scottish government for this nonsense – all of the MSPs who voted for this need their heads examined. But the SNP agenda appears to be to legislate against the pesky citizens of Scotland on everything. They are authoritarian, intrusive, condescending and it’s getting more and more sinister by the day.

  10. The referendum is not about the SNP they would be only one of many parties in an independent Country. I do not have a vote this year, heart says yes head says maybes no. But it is not about Salmond or the SNP or even the Tories. It is a historic vote for sure. night all have a good one.

I am reluctant to get dragged into the debate on the Named Person role because it started beyond Spinal Tap’s level 11 and has cranked up from there.

I will post my perspective and I will not get dragged into this debate.

Firstly, this bill is not an SNP stand alone policy. It was agreed by all parties bar the Tories, who agree with most of it but want to pander a bit to the Christian Right (not usually an area you look to in defending personal freedoms). It grew out of Social Work thinking and requests from parent groups and young people’s advocates for a more co-ordinated state response to collating information.

The Concept of a Named Person, has alarmed people largely because of presentation issues and a failure to explain. Plus, some of those quickest to react have not been too disposed to listen to explanations.

The Named Person would be better described as a Point-of-Contact or Information Co-ordinator. They would usually represent the agency best suited to the child’s age and stage i.e. Health Visitor for early months, Nursery Nurse and School personnel for the majority in the 3 to 16 age range.

They do not replace or surpass parents and they have been granted no additional powers that have not always been available to the local authority personnel, who have always had the duty to assess and decide on whether adequate care is being given to a child in a family situation.

There have been Named Persons available to young people with Additional Support Needs in Scotland since the mid-90s and they have operated without fuss. In the field of Child Protection, there have been Safeguarders and Advocates (not the Legally trained ones) to represent the Young Person’s voice in decision making, for just as long.

This current application of a Universal Named Person for every Child, as envisaged by this Act, has been rolled out in Highland Region for over 3 years now and no-one noticed anything much different.

Government and the State already have duties outlined to monitor and assess children to see that they are thriving and that includes making observations on how they are coping with family life (to look for issues of abuse, neglect and emotional care mostly). The State’s right to intervene is heavily limited by a variety of personal rights act, including the UN Convention on Human Rights, the Children Act, and many other pieces of legislation. They are not going to increase Receptions into Care because a teacher disputes how you handle a child; most professionals have the opposite pressure i.e to reduce Receptions into Care because the State is a poor parent generally.

You should be re-assured that the state has neither the resources, the intention, or the capability to get any more involved in the nitty gritty of family life. 95% plus of families will be blissfully aware of any change as there will be no need for action and, therefore, no actions undertaken.

I understand that people are spooked by the language and the overtones. I do get that. I wish they had called it something different.

I am wholly in favour of civil liberties and I am not at all ill disposed to a bit of SNP or politician bashing.

This Bill does not alarm me at all. The debate around it spooks me more than the Act itself.

Civil Liberties organisations are not raising objections here; right wing groups are. That should tell you something.

I would relish another opportunity to bash the SNP as the ObaF Act did reveal an Authoritarian and Populist tendency in them.

This Act is not as authoritarian as it sounds. It is a pious aspiration more than an intrusive offence. In the 3 years of its application in Highland region it caused not one bit of fuss.

I have said my piece. I think we need to inform ourselves more before we choose whether it’s worth heading for the barricades.

There are many genuine threats to civil liberties in the world. This Act is not one of them.

There is no such a thing as free further education. The costs have to be met somewhere.

While university education is free for the present, College budgets have been slashed to compensate. In teachers, in buildings and in available places.

Although University is no longer for the elite it is not for all.

The Snp government have failed on their own much heralded education tests even after changing the rules in 2009.

    Morten was a complete gentleman.

We were the first CSC to get Mogga after his wife passed away too. The early 90’s were easier to get players. Through his wife’s family we managed to get him to attend. His wife’s auntie lived across the street from me.

We had Mogga, Billy Stark, Tommy Burns & Willie McStay. That was an incredibly emotional night. Mowbray was exceptional. he played pool with the Bhoys in the back room of the hotel and the Treasurer was going off his nut. He should be speaking to the members. Another of the committee sais to him the guy has lost his wife and his playing pool with our junior members and letting them win and giving them a fiver a time. Best guest we have ever had! I thought it was tremendous. I think I was 16.

  23. Billy bhoy, as green pinta points out the free education position isn’t free. Similarly if I look at council tax freeze while slashing budgets then no matter how hard you try and dress it up the SNP are destroying public services while trying to bribe the electorate and pursuing populist non sustainable policies.

Going back to the named persons malarkey. Can you answer the conflict of interest question?

The SNP have introduced a lot of populist measures in the run up to the referendum in the hope of persuading the more gullible that a separate Scotland will be some kind of Big Rock Candy Mountain.

It’s all going to come back to bite them on the arse after the referendum.

  26. Billy bhoy ex celts in the media only survive in the media by criticising celtic. Look at the predominance of Huns on radio shows etc. it’s tells its own story.

When you think back to the Fergus McCann years,we really did very badly on the injury front.

And the number of them which you wouldn’t expect footballers to suffer from beggared belief, from brain or testicular cancer,career-ending toe (!) injuries,Guillaume-Barre Syndrome, just a strange catalogue.
