Winners, fighters and a divine gamble

244

How many times do you wish players would just practice crossing the ball?  Set aside the low balls across the face of goal.  A good aerial cross needs enough pace to make it difficult for the keeper to pluck it out of the air, but not too much, it also needs to drop to allow an attacker to make contact.

Most of the poor crosses you see fail the test of pace, more often than not, they are blasted beyond control.  Notwithstanding Josip Juranovic’s waywardness last night, a failure to direct the ball carefully enough is less common.

When Tom Rogic crossed the ball as the clock hit 96 minutes last night, including the keeper, there were nine Ross County players in the box.  They had to contend with only three Celtic players: Liel Abada, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Anthony Ralston.

For the first time since our first away win of the campaign, at Aberdeen on 3 October, I watched those closing moments thinking the season was about to pivot.  Devastated by injuries and with a cup final to plan for, the manager rested Rogic, his remaining creative force, as well as left back, Greg Taylor.

If Ange Postecoglou wins his first trophy in Scotland on Sunday, his gamble will have paid off brilliantly, but goodness, what a gamble.

I doubt Tom practices crossing any more than the rest of them, his talent appears God given.  If so, a Divine Hand lifted the ball into an area for Anthony Ralston to attack. Heavily outnumbered, it should have been a no contest.

What happened next is the stuff of legend.  Anthony’s leap was astonishing.  His head met the ball 8’ off the ground.  Up early, he used his shoulders and neck to keep his head where it needed to be, for an instant, giving the impression he could levitate.  No Hindu divinity here, just athleticism.

Add your own adjective to this team: winners, fighters, determined, indefatigable.  On nights like this, they are all true.  Enjoy your Celtic.

LYING BASSA’s…and to think some Folk VOTED for that ?

    CHUMPS.

    HH.

  5. At Prime Ministers question time last Wednesday, Boris Johnson was CONGRATULTING HIS Tory Government because of the high number of JOB Vacancies in the UK ?

NO MENTION of course of how many Folk have LEFT the NHS because of Brexit/Immigration issues, and/or of the number of Business’s who have been SACKING Employees cos of COVID and the lack of Business/Orders etc ?

NO WONDER that there are many Job Vacancies in the UK !

I think Paul should issue red cards to the anti vax nuts who pollute this place with their conspiracy theories quackery.

No apologies just round them up and ban the lot

an all day sesh on Sunday for the game……….. great weekend ahead

  12. The Tory party isn’t a cult.

    It allows dissent.

All mainstream political parties do, apart from the SNP.

Their representatives do what they are told.

And their supporters are either unaware of that fact or think it’s acceptable.

    Hence it is a cult.

  13. WHAT IS THE STARS

Sounding a bit nazist this morning. You dont like the vax to be questioned?

Have a listen to ex-england international Matt le Tissier talking about the footballers and other sportsmen that have recently been collapsing with breathing-heart problems ,including several deaths .

Of course soon as Le Tissier publicly points this out…….guess what? He is labelled an ” anti-vaxxer” and “conspiracy nut”.

  14. Although I’m onboard with the vaccination programme , it is always healthy to question. There are so many unanswered questions.

Eg : Can anyone on here tell us just how many vacancies the population will need ?

We’ve seen the consequences of blind obedience.

    ##

No. Depends on the number of mutations/variations occur and how infectious and virulent they are. It will probably settle down eventually to become like ordinary flu, but it’s a new disease for humans so it’s unchartered territory.

You just have to face reality and deal with it as best you can. Being a snowflake and pretending it can be wished away isn’t an option.

  17. Big Jimmy

Not exactly correct. Malky Mackay was sacked by Cardiff City BEFORE any racist/sexist text messages were reported in the media. Mackay was lined up for the Crystal Palace job but the reporting in the media, via texts released by Cardiff, led Palace to withdraw their offer. Nowadays this is a called cancel culture.

A racist for me is someone who discriminates against people due to the colour of their skin. i.e someone who DOES something racist, not someone who SAYS something racist. Likewise with sexist, telling a sexist joke doesn’t make you a sexist. Others may appear to be squeaky clean in their declarations but ACT in different ways in private . Bernard Manning or Benny Hill were slaughtered for their sexism when the likes of Esther Rantzen rallied bitterly against those comics. Later we realise how professionally close Ms Rantzen was to Jimmy Savile.

But we are getting off the point, which is Celtic. I admire your Celtic trajectory and your passion for the club and I wish you all the best.

    Cancellations of events has started.

Amy MacDonald had a sold out concert at the Hydro tonight.

She cancelled it last night and moved it to March 2022.

Also Deacon Blue have cancelled their Aberdeen gig on Saturday and their Hydro gig on Sunday too.

Hopefully the cup final isn’t compromised in any way.

Obviously the Hydro is completely enclosed so different surroundings to Hampden.

The Tory party isn’t a cult.

    Sure you spelt cult correctly?

  20. Ernie,

Face reality you say. OK, let’s live with it and stop itching for lockdowns. Hiding from it is not reality.

In truth, nobody can give unequivocal facts about the vaccines.

Why : Because they are experimental. 2023, will give a better understanding.

Get the jags and keep society open. That should be reality.

Because you question authority doesn’t make you a snowflake. Unquestioning blind obedience has consequences ( Papers please )

Just as well our ancesters weren’t as submissive.

  23. From the BBC Scottish Football gosip:

Scotland’s national clinical director Jason Leitch is “worried” about 50,000 travelling to Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final between Hibernian and Celtic amid the increase in Covid-19 cases.

No mention in this headline (I did not click on the Sun article) of 50,000 people travelling to Ibrox tomorrow.

Yet again Celtic highlighted whilst others ignored.

As is was in the beginning in Scotland, is now in Scotland and forever shall be in Scotland.

  24. Looks like we are going to another “emergency” press conference from Nicola Sturgeon at or around 12.15pm, so if Paul67 has already written his article for today, and it is not clear from his own post, he might not take into account anything that might affect football, including the League Cup Final. I’m second guessing of course, and that is usually the First Minister’s job.

  25. SAINT STIVS on 17TH DECEMBER 2021 10:36 AM

Everyone parroting the party line, whatever it is, whether they agree with it or believe it. It’s sinister, and does not augur well.

Might work when 100% of the population are fully vaccinated.

That’s 100% worldwide, not just those in oor ain wee bit.

Until that point people have to modify their behaviour.
