Wishful transfer thinking, broken Hearts

953

Celtic have been linked with a whole barrage of players over the last 24 hours, strongly linked in some instances.  While it is more fun to drool over players coming in than fret as existing players leave the club, I’m very sure that some of the reports floating around right now are the product of wishful thinking on the part of agents trying to place their players with a top European club.

For each player you read about, two others will be under consideration, and remember the golden rule, if players or agents are talking publicly, they are not talking to Celtic.  It’s easy to generate screeds of column inches for you, or your client, with a few well-chosen phrases.

Ukio Bankas statement this morning that current bids for the assets of Hearts which they hold security over, specifically Tynecastle Stadium, scene of Scotland’s most famous non-assault, do not meet their valuation presents real challenge to the club.  Hearts are a club capable of generating in the region of £10m.  Operating the club on a budget this size will be difficult, raising enough cash to satisfy Ukio Bankas might be impossible.

Unlike the situation last year with Rangers, when Craig Whyte secured an irrevocable undertaking upon liquidation to transfer Ibrox Stadium to Sevco 5088 Ltd, Ukio Bankas liquidators are unlikely to reject a CVA but accept a lower bid for Tynecastle.  Without a stadium, a Newco is unlikely.  The best Hearts fans could be faced with is going “Cap in hand”, as they sing down Easter Road, to Hibs, with a request for Newco to ground-share.

Wallace Mercer was ahead of his time. Flats, flats……….

Proper football journalism Mate, then of course we could believe the Retard, Celts in shambolic planning before massive Euro tie type borracks..

4 players in so far and I believe enough in the squad to take care of Elfsborg in Glasgow before a big crowd..

  5. Rules For CQN posters

1- Neil Lennon must put out the strongest team for every single match, whilst resting players for Europe and bringing through the youngsters.

2- We as Celtic supporters want a competitive league but if we fail to win every game 5-0 with silky play we should sack the Manager/ Board / Bored.

3- Peter Lawwell is the devil incarnate for selling all our best players

4- Peter Lawwell is the devil incarnate for not selling our best players before they get injured, have a run of bad games or just don’t fancy it.

5- We as fans, will be faithful through and through until we are 3 down against Aberdeen… When we win 4-3 it is important that you post stating you had no doubt we would win.

6- New signings will be given approximately 45 minutes to prove their ability.

7- If you posted that player A (who went from Hibs to England and did well) should have been snapped up by Celtic you must mention this at every opportunity.

8- If you posted that players B C D E F G H I J (who left Scotland to end up playing for Scunthorpe reserves) should be snapped up by Celtic), you can forget about it.

9- We are all Celtic fans together, unless you have a different view on politics, music, breaking bad and how you make toasted cheese/ cheese on toast.

10- CQN is the best Celtic blog ever… except when some idiot says that Joe Ledley had a great game… FFS he hardly touched the ball in the second have… and that goal he scored was a fluke….and what about…..

11- Tito Villanova sold David Villa so he could assemble his dream front 3 of Messi, Neymar and McCourt!!

12- Gary Hooper has been holding Anthony Stokes back (and with him now leaving) Stokes will score 50 goals this season (70 if the Elvis impersonators leave him alone!!)

13- Tony Watt and Dylan McGeouch are saviours of Celtic, this is not open to challenge however if you do challenge this you are either 1. Anti Scots players being at Celtic , 2: a follower of Sevco, 3 Don’t know anything about football anyhow.

14- Don’t mention signing players or mentioning weakness during a transfer window

Paul will soon write a new header or send in his bhoys to say spending money is anti Celtic

Must keep peters bonus on track :))))

15- You are either a Happy Clapper or a Mineshafter, one or the other.

Jo Ledley had a good game – Happy Clapper

Jo Ledley was a bit quiet – Mineshafter.

16- Any player sold by Celtic will get better the longer he is away.

If the dutch boy signs he could be a surprise pick for the first 45 mins he has pace to burn and will trouble any defence. As we know football is a funny old game and it wouldnt surprise me if Bangura played in both legs and scores at least once.H.H.

  7. we have signed a bustling centre forward

we have signed a future dutch international centre half

we have signed an epl experienced although injury prone

    centre half.

we are on the verge of signing a dutch left winger only a year ago was on the cusp of international football

thats not too bad at all.

the only problem is we lost 2 of our best players and

our main centre half’s leaving by the look of it.

yesterday i was feeling optimistic, buying an ajax player

and linked with a few promising/sought after strikers.

cmon celtic/PL knock our socks off with a couple of

quality signings to show everyone we are not the

EPL’s feeder club. i kinda know we are but lets look

as though we are moving up to another level.

  8. Champions League is all about taking your chances when they come, and midfield and defence keeping the mistakes to a minimum it’s like most cup games, I would say the only thing they may on us is games played ( competitive ) but without a doubt we have the quality but we will have to work hard as well and I think NFL will have that drummed into our squad.

    Good Morning.

I just don’t get this “scrambling for players” view shared by some.

Getting £12.5M for Wanyama is excellent business and I believe we have midfield cover and will look to add more.

Hooper was always going– especially if you listen to his Norwich press conference. Neil Lennon openly stated that he would be looking to add strikers whether Hooper stayed or not– but especially if a deal went through for him– and remember that Lennon has said for some time that he expected him to leave.

Celtic have enquired about players– some have been bought— some targets have said no– that is the way of the football life.

Only a few weeks ago this forum was full of comments that Celtic were doing the business early with the capture of Van Djyk and Balde— by the way they are a very highly rated centre half and a big powerful forward player who needs a bit of polishing up!

Since then we have captured Mouyokolo ( another centre half ) and now Boeriggter ( another forward ) and apparently we are still chasing at least two targets!

Do you think that there is any possibility that the reason we signed two centre halves was because te management could see the Kelvin Wilson thing on the horizon?

Do you think Kelvin Wilson, with his domestic issues, was ever going to sign a new contract?

Does it sound as if Joe Ledley wants to sign a new contract and if so what do you make of Lennon’s statement that he will use some of the Victor money to improve the terms for Joe Ledley’s new contract?

Similarly for the European talisman Samaras.

Honestly– some folk want to leave football management to those who are doing it, because they seem to know what they are talking about.

  14. Brogan Rogan etc.

So selling Victor was “excellent business”. Maybe. But not wait till after the CL qualifiers? Victor would have given 100%, he’s a good pro. It was his agents pushing for a move – ever since the Barca games. If we fail to get to the CL group stage, it will not have been such excellent business, and even if it is, I support a football team, not a business.

I didn’t really know much about neuroblastoma until you started highlighting Vanessa’s plight on here, but I learned a lot during my involvement with WO4L. The hugely successful fundraising campaign for Vanessa showed what could be acheived for other children such as Oscar.

When you hear words like ‘remission’ and ‘the all clear’ being used, it’s difficult to reign in expectations and remind people that the children still have potential battles ahead of them.

All we really want for them and their families is a normal life. God knows they deserve it.

  18. Football.is a business and lots of clubs are going out of business, reason most of them are going out of business is giving players wages they can not afford, Celtic do not play that game, we stay with in our budget and pay our debts win cups and leagues AND play in the last 16 of the Champions League AND DID GOOD BUSINESS , others went on another road we did not want to go down, our history of how we have done THE BUSINESS remains unbroken.

  19. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Kano 1000

re centre Halves – no, I have to disagree. We NEEDED to sign two simply to maintain the same levels of cover in the squad. Rogne and Gershon both left, and were replaced by Mouyokolo and Van Dijk. Should Wilson leave (I hope he doesn’t) then we will be 1 down on last season, so he also should be replaced (even more important given he is a starter).

I would recommend moving for kalidou Koulibaly (6’5″ 22 year old ex-france U20 from Genk) who has been one of the reasons Genk finished 3rd this season – he was very influential in their defence. can also play in the holding midfield role.

If we seriously want to compete for 4 trophies this season, then we need a squad that is at least as strong as last year, and hopefully stronger.

  20. If you remove Kelvin Wilson, the other centre halves’ experience of playing alongside one another in the last 2 years extends to Ambrose/Mulgrew (they have played twice together), and Lustig/Mulgrew, who have played at CB together ONCE.

I don’t know if these occasions ran to 90 mins, but none of them were in a 4-4-2 type arrangement (what Celtic played in the last 2 games), and none of them were exactly stellar defensive performances.

Putting it mildly, I very much hope that Kelvin Wilson remains at Celtic until we have negotiated these vital Champions League qualifiers, upon which the fate of our season rests.

  21. Yorkbhoy

Excellent. I particularly liked numbers 6 and 7 whilst 16 was my favourite.

    You could also add that Elfsborg being halfway through their season is seen as;

    A) Mineshafters = much fitter than us;

    B) Happyclappers = we are much fresher than them.

    79 caps

    We all support a team!

However tell me this — are you happier supporting that team in the champions league than if say they were playing Cumbernauld Juniors?

Southampton came knocking with the club’s valuation of the player. If he gets injured or has a stinker maybe you lose the money and the chance to advance the squad.

The club has to react to the market that it is in– and by the way that is not the Scottish Market. If the ambition was just to make money then the club would sell virtually all of the first team and still be in with a good chance of lifting the Scottish League!!

The strategy since the start of the Lennon years has seen steady if not rapid advancement– so why question it now?

Others did far more for Vanessa than me— I just told a story and badgered on about the disease and her.

Those involved in the Oscar campaign really picked up that baton and ran with it further than I ever could.

The point I was making is that te fight doesn’t end there and that we as a support can do far more than simply raise money– although we appear to be hellish good at that when we put our mind to it!

    Good Morning.

BRTH – Absolutely bang on with that assesment – The few times I post on here I preach the same theory

The one thing I would add that makes the job more difficult for Celtic is the timing – getting players in before the transfer window closes is a game of cat and mouse – but clubs looking to sell to Celtic are aware that CL qualifiers are mega important to us – so buying to get into CL group stages is a harder date for Celtic than the window closing date very difficult and I believe the board NL and John Park do as well as anybody before them
