Wishful transfer thinking, broken Hearts

953

Celtic have been linked with a whole barrage of players over the last 24 hours, strongly linked in some instances.  While it is more fun to drool over players coming in than fret as existing players leave the club, I’m very sure that some of the reports floating around right now are the product of wishful thinking on the part of agents trying to place their players with a top European club.

For each player you read about, two others will be under consideration, and remember the golden rule, if players or agents are talking publicly, they are not talking to Celtic.  It’s easy to generate screeds of column inches for you, or your client, with a few well-chosen phrases.

Ukio Bankas statement this morning that current bids for the assets of Hearts which they hold security over, specifically Tynecastle Stadium, scene of Scotland’s most famous non-assault, do not meet their valuation presents real challenge to the club.  Hearts are a club capable of generating in the region of £10m.  Operating the club on a budget this size will be difficult, raising enough cash to satisfy Ukio Bankas might be impossible.

Unlike the situation last year with Rangers, when Craig Whyte secured an irrevocable undertaking upon liquidation to transfer Ibrox Stadium to Sevco 5088 Ltd, Ukio Bankas liquidators are unlikely to reject a CVA but accept a lower bid for Tynecastle.  Without a stadium, a Newco is unlikely.  The best Hearts fans could be faced with is going “Cap in hand”, as they sing down Easter Road, to Hibs, with a request for Newco to ground-share.

Wallace Mercer was ahead of his time. Flats, flats……….

The rest of your post is also very revealing ……. pathetic attention-seeker, via being tactically controversial / critical, as opposed to being constructive …… obviously not very intelligent… shame really….

  3. we’ll still get another striker but i would take Doyle.

As i mentioned, he makes the ball stick and with a 30 + goalscorer beside would be decent. Still think big balde will come to the fore once Overmars 2 joind down the left and supplys the crosses.

Agree…..good prospect ……. Think we need to remember that some established quality players just won’t come to Scotland….in that respect our Board’s signing strategy is difficult but the only way forward …… ‘delivered’ bigtime this season…..

  6. Bad planning..lost 3 main players…have a bad feeling about Wednesday….I think we are in trouble come Wednesday…..Ffs, I wouldn’t like to be in a foxhole with some of the gloom an doom and I told you so mob in here, I hope and pray to god no Celtic players come into this site, honestly the negativity is astounding, never in all my years have I seen Celtic supporters like this honestly it’s like a Hun site, nothing positive about the team….SHOCKING.

“Wasn’t really worried until i seen the story on Wilsn this morning.

Surely, we have a plan in place. Everybody must have known these players would be for the off.”

    Surely…surely…???

The club had to have known re Vic, Hooper and Wilson (particularly the former pair) for a long time.

It is pathetic that one day before a vital CL qualifier we are scrambling looking for players. Fair play if we get (a) player(s) today but we should not be in this position. Messi and Ronaldo would not be properly prepared for a Wednesday game with a transfer on a Tuesday.

This is totally unnecessary. I appreciate transfers are not straightforward these days but certain clubs seem to be able to get transfer business done much more quickly. This brinkmanship leaves us hostages to fortune (whether of players, clubs or agents). Too often for us its a case of a last minute, ultimately disappointing, signing.

  12. Looking forward to 5 days of quality racing at Goodwood.

I expect Mark Johnston to have his usual share of winners and I’m particularly keen on Sir Graham Wade in today’s 3.40 – approx.8/1.

I like the chances of Somewhat from the same stable in tomorrow’s 2-y-o race.

No. Not that I know of. Akbw 1888 thought it was on next Tuesday 6 Aug. I was just double checking. I think it’s Wed 7 Aug.

  14. Phil Mac revealed last week that Stewart (Social Unrestl) Raygun and Neil (Armageddon) Dungchucker had been interviewed for the post of CEO of the Engkish Football League (as I don’t bother with the MSM I have no idea if they coverd it or, more likely, not!). Anyway, the poor wee souls will have to put up with life in the Scottish backwater as the guy from Leeds Utd got the gig.

Fully with you on Doyle I can’t understand the ambivilance towards him as he is one of the best back to goal strikers around. should create tons of chances for Stokes, Watt etc.

Plus centre halves hate playing against him and we haven’t really had that since Sutton/Hartson.

  16. good luck to canamalar in his motion

its about time someone stuck there head above the parapet

at celtic/sfa/any other team and had a right dig at the

scumbags for all the goings on.

if this is the only way that we get the board to come out and condemn every single move the SPL and the scumbags have pulled and tried to pull. then that’ll do for me.

no matter how hard i try to not think of the “deid lot” i

see posters…”the most successful scottish club” i see the same strips with their phoney stars, i see their triumphalist supporters smuggly gloating WATP. i see their club beaming out my tele from SSN to BBC to STV.

I see their odious slug of a manager bleeting about how they are hard done to…etc.etc.etc

on the pitch….breathe…dont panic captain manwairing.

  17. You get 1 medical with x-rays and scans that was done last night, then you get another one the next day after a rigours training session checking for swelling and after affects.

  18. to sum it up Doyle is a Sutton type player that allows a goalscoerer( say a larsson type) to play off.

Nobody is saying he will ne Hooper replacement but he makes the ball stick and especially in Europe when you play one up top in some games in a 4 2 3 1 formation you need that to bring your other main goal threats like Samaras, Commons etc.. into the game.

  19. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Good Morning all Celtic fans where ever you are in the World.Well we have up to 11 pm tonight to add one more player for tomorrows match squad.Unlike some others I think we have enough in our locker to win tomorrows game even if we dont sign anyone my biggest concern is fitness as we are at the pre-season stage while our opponents are half-way through there season this could make us vunrable later in the game.H.H.

  20. I don’t think we are “scrambling for players” but playing the game that gets most value for money, albeit there are risks involved.

I would suggest successfully getting through this qualifier is a risk that has been assessed and taken. Next one is where we have to have our eggs lined up – “Marry in haste, repent at leisure”

I agree there too and I’d say that’s why he hasn’t signed yet. Wolves are looking for more, but if we hold our nerve they’ll crack as they need him off the wage bill.

  28. Celtic Squad for tomorrow night IMO missing Wilson for obvious reasons:

Forster, Lustig, Ambrose, Matthews, Mulgrew, Mouyokolo, Izzagirre, Ledley, Brown, Kayal, Commons, Forrest, Samaras, Stokes, Watt, Zaluska, Derk Boerrigter if signed before deadline

17 players most of whom have international and C/L experience, we should be quietly confident without underestimating our opponents

  29. CL Qualifiers – where are we in terms of this time last year? Why all the doom and gloom?

This is predominantly the same Squad as last year (minus Hooper and V67) but now with the benefit of 14 CL Ties under their belts. To date we have played 6 Qualifying games (won 6; scored 13 conceded 1). Goal contributions came from; from Hooper (2) and V67 (1).

What we should remember is that in the 4 Q-ties (2012) we were missing; Efe (4), Wilson (2), Stokes (2), Ledley (1), Kayal (1) and V67 (1 due to suspension).

This same Squad then got through the CL Group Stages (W3 D1 L2; scored 8 conceded 6). Goal contributions came from; from Hooper (2) and V67 (1).

Finally, we got through to the Last 16 whilst missing; Stokes (5), Izzy (2), Brown (1), Ledley (1), Kayal (1), Mathews (1), Forrest (1) and V67 (1 again due to suspension).

    ___________________

The Squad has matured – it’s fairly flexible. The defence is pretty solid (forget warm-up games) and we have added what appears to be some key-players to the Team. No reason why we can’t deal with this tie in a professional manner – then everyone can start worrying about the final Q-tie!

    H!H! :-)
