Word for the day: Ajer

230

With the arrival of Marvin Compper all four of Celtic’s central defenders will feel an increase in pressure to make the starting line-up. Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko may already have other places on his mind but neither Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer will know where they fit in the manager’s plans.

Ajer (19) fits our style of play better than any of the existing options. So much of our play depends on the central defenders being able to control a quick pass, move it on, or run with the ball. Boyata and Simunovic accomplished this well away to Anderlecht, but their movement, first touch and composure on the ball has dipped well below that level.

I have some concerns about Ajer defending. He has not been tested rigorously and I have noticed a tendency to allow strikers to drift into space, so we should be cautious about putting too much responsibility onto his shoulders.

What is clear is that we play better football and are a better team with him in the side. That alone is enough to merit keeping his place.

Best memory of 2017, Tom Rogic’s winner to clinch the treble.

There are about 5 million RCs in the UK.

Of these, about 800K live in Scotland.

Far more children attend RC schools in England than in Scotland

Anti Catholic prejudice in England evaporated while it was still a feature of daily life up here.

Paul McGrath is one of my all-time not-a-Celt favourite players and I would have loved to see him in the Hoops.

What he did for Villa he could have done for us.

But hey ho. We signed Paul Elliott, who was a superb player.

We should’ve bought Steve Clarke as well when we had the chance, always thought at the time he would have made a big difference for us, fine player.

  7. Best moment so far for me

  8. Big Packy in answer to your question about Catholic Cathedrals in England and Wales, there are twenty two in total, three of which are in Wales. In addition, there are three Eastern Rite Cathedrals that are in communion with Rome, plus a Cathedral of the Bishop of the Forces.

Best memory of 2017 – I agree, Tom dinking it over the Dons keeper to give us the Treble.

But I will never forget Jozo putting Kenny Miller into orbit. Fairly. That was brilliant.

  12. CELTIC BY NUMBERS on 3RD JANUARY 2018 7:49 PM

    Forgot to say earlier.

    Great post and statt-ing.

    Thanks.

Honestly, that’s the first time I’ve read/heard that one. :o))

    I will use it.

  14. Is it too stupid to say the favourite moment of 2017 is all of it together.

We live in the second greatest times of all.

Thoroughly enjoyed Arsenal v Chelsea could easily have been 5.5.

    A draw probably fair.

Game had everything. Referee a few dodgy decisions too and what about Morata three one on ones and missed them all.

    Hail Hail

    ……………………………

I didn’t see the match as I no longer contribute to Sky etc, but I had bets of 3-2 for Arsenal and a 3-3 draw.

I didn’t go out yesterday as my Doc is giving me more anti biotics and an Inhaler today. I may have a couple of beers today though and then re start the tablets etc afterwards ?

    HENDERSON HORSES…

One winner yesterday, and the other finishing 2nd on it’s racecourse debut. I bet two singles and a double, so I had a small profit. As expected although they are not ALL winning, his horses are bang in form and he has only TWO RUNNERS Today 2.15 FOLLOW THE BEAR and at 3.55 BEFORE MIDNIGHT.

IF they both win, we won’t be millionaires but hey theres an old saying in gambling…..I would rather have a 4/6 winner….than a 4/6 Loser !

The horses today are sitting at 2/1 and 5/4 early prices.

    I am already on

  16. MAYBE one day this Huin Cheating Scum will be brought to their knees FINALLY ?

Like many others I really appreciate all the hard work that AULDHEID and others have did for years now, and those Bhoys must be even more frustrated than I am ?

However, it truly beggars belief that they are allowed to limp along and signing players on loan ( Sean Goss ?), but hopefully one day soon we will have a real Judgement Day IF HMRC and The Takeover Panel get a real hold of them.

As someone else pointed out, this winter break MUST be the last thing they needed right now with NO money coming in ?

    I sincerely hope so.

    HH

  17. In all my long years, this is the most prolonged spell of Flu etc that I have ever had

it must be abput 7/8 weeks now ?

The Doc told me yesterday possible Bronchitus ?…he’s given me an Inhaler.

Do I need to REFILL an Inhaler after a while, I have never used one ?

All the best to anyone else on here who has it.

  18. FOOTBALL QUESTION….and NOT a Trick Question !

Many years ago, during my time of trying to be a football player, I scored a goal with my 1st touch….and NONE of my team mates had touched the ball during the duration of the match, in other words I was the ONLY player from my team to have touched the ball when I stuck it low in the opposition net.

How did I do it ?

NOT a Trick question…this really happened.

    HH

  19. JOBO…In my post mate, I did state “The Opposition Net”….so it’s not an own goal. It was a perfectly valid and legit goal which stood.

    T atrick question.

    ……………

    MGBHOY,

Fix Radio.?..sorry mate but you have lost me ?

  20. t atrick ????/= TRICK

I can only repeat for the last time.

It is NOT a TRICK QUESTION..IT IS PERFECTLY VALID, AND THERE WERE NUMEROUS WITNESS’S INCLUDING 200/300 SPECTATORS.

  21. The hand of God on

Big Jimmy…you could have latched onto a bad passbook from the opposition after they kicked off or they could have given away a penalty from their kick off maybe from a silly handball or a trip as someone again latched onto a poor passback

  22. 50 shades of green on

    Big Jimmy.

Other team kick off , you barge forward try 2take out the striker, miss him connect with the ball instead and it flys into the neat.
