After yesterday’s discussion on values, what we’re all about and where we’re going, today’s announcement by the Foundation that they will have a badge day at the Dundee United game on 11 May is something that requires us to step forward and do something about.
“Volunteers will be in place at all turnstile areas and supporters will be asked to make a donation of minimum £1 in return for a badge, which illustrates the new Celtic FC Foundation crest. All monies raised on the day will support our work challenging homelessness in the Glasgow area.”
I’m going to volunteer. You should too. It will mean getting to the game a wee bit earlier but it will also mean you can look those values we all preach in the eye. Words are easy but on this occasion, so are actions. Let’s do it.
I’ll find out how you volunteer and report back soon.

Hi ghuys I realise this is a Celtic blog and it is Champions League night but need some advice on choosing a new TV. Drawn towards Panasonic 46″- 50″ Smart TV, have had LG and Samsung but Panasonic seem to tick all the boxes.Looking at the TX series any feedback would be appreciated also where to buy. Thanks Hail Hail Hebcelt
Suarez will be at Barca next. year. And maybe Virgil the next

That’s quite restrained for our Eamon! His solution to Ireland’s lack of technical ability – “we need more ghettos” !
Really pleased for Athletico, but Barca need to do something about Neymar…..he’s just not doing it
Much as I hate what sky/uefa have done to fitba’ there’s no denying the excitement of the champions league.
Unless you deny it of course :-)
jude2005,
I know. I can still see Jinky writhing in agony. But it would be wrong to deny that the current team aren’t a good football team. On tonight’s showing a different class to Barca.
I was at the Atletico game at Parkhead when they booted Jinky off the park, and I’ve disliked them ever since. However, that was 40 years ago, and I’ve moved on from then. I think they’re a great team to watch, and would love to see them beat Real in the CL Final. When all is said and done, it was the team who did for Jinky, not the club!

Braw thanks for your reply. You want reasons for my No vote. I haven’t made up my mind yet which way I’m voting. I don’t warm to the approach taken by some of the Yes voters on here though. I’m not at the wind- up either re my concerns regarding discrimination. Salmond told us that Rangers are a huge institution and can’t be allowed to die. Kenny MacAskill told us that the League Cup Final Orange Fest singalong was a great spectacle and a marvellous advert for Scottish football. We’ve got the OB ‘get the Celtic fans’ Act. We had the Scottish media’s demonisation of Neil Lennon after the Shame Game. The Scottish media’s failure to adequately address the dangerous ramblings of Sleekit McCoist. The Scottish Government’s deliberate destruction/loss of statistics showing year on year attacks on Roman Catholics in all parts of Scotland. The Scottish media’s failure to adequately seek answers to that. The increase in the powers of Police Scotland where ordinary coppers are invested with powers to determine what is offensive and God help you if happen to be a Celtic supporter or Catholic if they don’t happen to like either. They are also now allowed to collaborate with police authorities in the USA to prevent people who haven’t been convicted of a crime to travel there if they take a dislike to you and decide that you are a crime lord.
Oh I’m sure it’ll all be fine.
I’m watching Atletico v Barca. I still have faith in Barca to pull it off. United I don’t give a stuff about.
……………………..
thankyou for such an expansive response…braw….your points of concern are ones many have quibbled with ….but if I may be so Celtic …they are expected ….almost predictable ….and when you decide you will be in an amazing place ……a place in “our” time that our grandfathers would have danced at ,they have already written the tune ………
we are that tune ….

Dunphy also thinks democracy is bad for the national team.
……..Well, Rueben Ayala in particular! Nasty piece of work he was!

Aye, Ayala…haven’t heard the name in years bit can picture the hursuit hacker like it was yesterday.
but
God Bless the Foundation for all the work they do, and have done in the past.. and ‘the Bunnet’ for reminding us of our beginnings, who we are, and what we stand for. Proud to support Celtic !!
The A.M. team at CP were mob-handed with Argentinian hatchet-men (think 6/7) – the majority replaced (ineligible for the return leg).

You saw the looks of excitement and expectation on the faces of those young and old Athletico supporters tonight. You felt for them and how they wanted their team to get into the final because they were the better team. That was me and 75000 other Celtic supporters in 1974. Their team of absolute thugs came and kicked Celtic off the park. They destroyed the game, the occasion and expectation for us. I hope the never win the CL. I’d like to see them get to the final and lead 1-0 until the last 4 minutes against Bayern as they did last time. That game went to a replay and they got gubbed 4-1. I hope it is a repeat result (aet) and that really appalling refereeing decisions go against them.
I always thought it was the same coach that was in charge of AM and Racing Club when they played us and subsequently the way those teams were sent out onto the park was down to that particular coach.
Was it the same coach in charge of BOTH those teams?
That Barca team tonight unrecognisable from the one that has dominated European football in recent years.
Just goes to show that nothing lasts forever.
Well played Atletico – good to see the hegemony of the big two in Spain being properly challenged at long last.

*don’t think so but he was the coach in 1966 WC when Alf Ramsey called the Argies animals. The full back was the same one though.

If my fading memory serves me well, the Athletico Madrid coach against Celtic was Juan Carlos Lorenzo who also coached the Argentina side involved in disgraceful scenes in the 1966 World Cup match against England.

Go Sony W6 orW8 series best. Just got new one for dining/ footie room. Had same Sony in living room for 7 years now, picture still superb. Mind buy through John Lewis
Beaten on the draw by tontine Tim.
bigyinmilan
He was manager of Argentina in 66
Barca had over 70% posession and were superior in most of the stats (goals being an exception!)
The new coach is suspect, but you can’t write them off just yet.

I’ve got a Panasonic 41 inch TX LCD. Quality is excellent. Have had it for about 6 months. Bought it in Curry’s. Good value at £395 if I remember correctly. Watch out because it has an Eco function and sometimes cuts out when your watching a programme. A little grey window appears and gives you a 3 minute warning telling you that the set will switch off unless you press the OK button on the TV’s own remote control as opposed to the SKY or Virgin remote control.
Hope that helps.
It was horrendous in 1974 but can we not move on?
40 years is too long to hold a grudge especially when completely different people are involved.
Good Evening All,
So we have the two Madrid’s, Chleski and the Munchen Machine in the Semi’s!
Who do we fancy out of that lot?
I see plenty mentions of that dreadful night when Athletico Madrid came to Celtic Park 40 years ago!
The man in charge of Athletico that night was Juan Carlos Lorenzo — the same guy who was the manager of the filthy Argentina side at the 1966 world cup. I have seen one article that gives the Athletico team of that night as:
Thug; Psycho, Punch; Spit, Hatchet, Bludgeon; Hammer, Thump, Wallop, Gouge, Axe-Murderer
Playing a Celtic side that consisted of the following:
Connaghan, Hay, Brogan; Murray, McNeill, McCluskey; Johnstone, Hood, Deans, Callaghan, Dalglish. with Hunter McGrain and Lennox on the bench.
Athletico officially gave away 53 free kicks that night — more than one every two minutes!
At full time, Billy McNeill had been given permission byJjock Stein to “sort out” the visitors as they went up the tunnel. Stein even went so far as to distract the match commander by appearing to point out an incident in the crowd as the players disappeared from the pitch.
Celtic had had a perfectly good goal disallowed and all the frustration came to the fore when the teams left the park.
A young Davie Hay was in spectacular post match form apparently and accounted for for a couple of the Madrid players single-handedly while Jim Brogan apparently dispatched his views on the game with a degree of bluntness.
Stein later chased after their manager who ran like hell and locked himself in their dressing room!
However the damage on the pitch was done — they had stopped Celtic playing to their strength in a true unsportsmanlike like manner for which they would be fined £14,000 and six — yes six — of their players would be banned for a couple games. They fielded a very different side in the second leg and played proper football.
Much later, Billy McNeill received a letter from the Athletico Madrid official reporters club inviting him to their annual dinner! He didn’t go — don’t think he even replied.
I agree with a previous poster — the whole thing was forty years ago — and by this time many of the Athletico team of that night will be old men.
I think that they should be invited back to Celtic Park in the coming season so that they can see what a truly magnificent stadium and support Celtic have on a European night.
Maybe they could be invited out on to the park to do the Paradise windfall draw or something .. and then as they go off the pitch ….. Davie Hay can knock the bleeding bejasus out of them for a second time!
I for one would chip in for the defence fund!!
No offence to the current team — but I hope someone craps in their boots!

All the Spanish teams were violent in that er including the national side.
Maybe something to do with Franco.

Heavy Argentinian influence in that side. Also a fascist state.
Perhaps the memory of the Racing Club game also played a part.
