Words are easy, so are actions

After yesterday’s discussion on values, what we’re all about and where we’re going, today’s announcement by the Foundation that they will have a badge day at the Dundee United game on 11 May is something that requires us to step forward and do something about.

“Volunteers will be in place at all turnstile areas and supporters will be asked to make a donation of minimum £1 in return for a badge, which illustrates the new Celtic FC Foundation crest.  All monies raised on the day will support our work challenging homelessness in the Glasgow area.”

I’m going to volunteer.  You should too.  It will mean getting to the game a wee bit earlier but it will also mean you can look those values we all preach in the eye.  Words are easy but on this occasion, so are actions.  Let’s do it.

I’ll find out how you volunteer and report back soon.

    Ha! Ha! ha! Brilliant.

Celtic should have refused to play the 2nd leg v Atletico Madrid, that wasn’t football. If they wanted it playing like that, just walk away, we would have got a ban , but worth it IMO

  3. CRC, please take pictures, or are you selling tickets!?!?

    I would pay good money.

Jeez — Can guys in wheelchairs get a game at this CQN 5’s malarkey?

If so I might polish ma wheels!!!

  7. Well the better team won tonight, much stronger, more physical, wanted it more IMO, and not void on skill either.

Simeone has done a superb job at AM.

If Barca lose their appeal, they will struggle for a couple of years in Spain me thinks, and at CL level, their manger was getting abuse in a few languages tonight, as were most of the players, not at the races tonight.

    Amazing how all the Real supporters were supporting AM tonight, would never happen in Glasgow >}

Still nice wee double up, AM and BM, also had AM to qualify, lost on Barca and BM, but the others more than made up for it.

The reason i think that is because of a video of the AM game.

Maybe the commentator/narrator of the video was wrong or it is just my memory, but what he said mattered a lot to me because they were painful and bitter memories for my Dad.

He had developed Alzheimer’s in the later years of his life and despite not knowing what had happened 5 minutes ago, he remembered stuff from years ago much more clearly and in an effort to keep those memories strong, i liked to try to watch whatever football from the past that he talked about with him by finding footage on the internet or buying him a dvd of a particular game/tournament.

Anyway, it was from watching footage of both those games that the comment was made that the manager of AM was the same as the one that had been in charge of Racing Club and so we spoke about whether those 2 clubs should really have a bad memory to Celtic and whether it was the coach that was the real problem.

Maybe i just picked something up wrong?

Your Dad was correct – Lorenzo had a short spell as Racing Club manager in 1980. He also managed River Plate just after the 1966 WC.

It was horrendous in 1974 but can we not move on?

40 years is too long to hold a grudge especially when completely different people are involved.

    ——————————

You are right and whatever went on in those games was more than likely down to the managers tactics and it is a shame that a lot of fans have been left feeling bitter towards the clubs.

  18. There’s a rumour on Twitter about a 4-team tourney in August at the Aviva Stadium. Celtic Barca, Man.U., and Bilbao being mentioned. As I say, just a rumour at the moment! Would certainly fancy going to that, if true!

  21. Tomorrow, it is 40 years to the day (10 April 1974) since that shameful Atletico Madrid performance at Celtic Park.

In actual fact, SEVEN of their team who played in the first leg also played in the return leg however on that occasion they chose to play football and won the game with 2 goals in the last 13 minutes.

As much as the present team are to be admired I am afraid the memory of those two legs are still sore and I would not welcome an Atletico victory in Lisbon this year.

Also, when we played them in the Europa League in 2011, their supporters unfurled a banner which was very derogatory to Billy McNeill who had criticised their club for their antics in 1974.

Perhaps a repeat of the 1974 Brussels final is on the cards.

which article is it — he sometimes sends them on leaving me to guess who the author is!!

As for his footballing abilities — well I have never seen him play but I suspect that he plays football the same way he goes to a bar.

Sometimes slow, somewhat hesitant and lugubrious, slightly lacking in co-ordination and undoubtedly off the pace as they say. HOWEVER I suspect his defensive qualities are similar to when I go to the bar — which means he appears at speed and from out of nowhere with frightening regularity!

Maybe Lorenzo did manage both of those sides but was he in charge at the time of those clubs in the games against us?

The thing was that i believed the manager that was in charge of AM in 74 was the same manager that was in charge of RC in 67.

I am certain that i heard that and we all know that those commentators are always spot on.

I always thought it was the same coach that was in charge of AM and Racing Club when they played us and subsequently the way those teams were sent out onto the park was down to that particular coach.

Was it the same coach in charge of BOTH those teams?

I believe that he was Juan Carlo Lorenzo who was coach of the Argentinian national side that Alf Ramsey was crioticised for describing as animals.

Somebody, I forget which poster, asked me a number of questions. Was it ACR or Sadiebhoy? Anyway, I am willing to give brief answers to your questions next time you are around and I am free, if you wish.

SFTB, my ‘po-faced’ comment earlier sounded harsh. Really need to start using this smillie punctuation as I didn’t wish to be rude.

Spoke to a friend tonight who just happens to be a football fanatic, from Czech Republic, who is living in Scotland. He didn’t mention LG, despite knowing that I am a Celtic man. Not much impact. I also chose not to mention it. Conversation turned to Dukla Prague and that AM game instead.
