  1. I was just thinking that we clearly have a bit of a problem scouting strikers. I bet the scouts that we would traditionally have had access to are now working for the big bucks of the mid and low EPL teams.

It is a poison that infects every aspect of our game.

Peter…thousands of supporters have been sending you a message….do you understand?

You can lord it over an empty stadium if you like…but mark my words, you will be gone before the stadium is full again.

In the history of Celtic….you are insignificant.

You are not a Celtic great…merely a yes-man for a man who has contempt for Celtic.

Peter Lawell, I urge you to resign, for the good of Celtic.

  4. Have you any idea how stupid the post on not being a Celtic supporter sounded, who ever it was that posted that, away and get some facts ffs, and stop making up s…

DERMOT DESMOND last night revealed how his heart ruled his head when he joined forces with Fergus McCann to save Celtic.

    CELTIC SAVIOUR: Dermot Desmond [GETTY]

The Irish tycoon – and Celtic’s majority shareholder – spoke on the eve of the 20th anniversary of McCann’s takeover and acknowledged he was won over by the masterplan that was being put in place way back in 1994 after the then board was ousted.

“It was all about saving Celtic – Fergus was saving Celtic,” recalled Desmond.

“I wasn’t really aware of all the intricacies going on between the various families and factions, but Fergus went in there, I would say, as a neutral, cold and hard, and wanted to do his best for Celtic and its fans.

“I saw that and I believed in that, and it was easy for me then to look at it on that basis and to support him.

“But I never looked upon it purely as a normal investment because, as I’ve said many times before, Celtic is an emotional investment, although at the same time you don’t want to be throwing money at emotional investments as you could go broke pretty quickly doing that.

“So I looked upon it as creating a solid financial platform for Celtic in conjunction with Fergus and the other board members.

“But the emotional side of it sways you. If it had been another club on the same basis, I wouldn’t have been interested in investing.

“But, from when I was a young boy, I had a fondness and a love for Celtic so it was easy for me to look at it closely and I started off wanting to invest rather than from a basis of refusing it.”

It was all about saving Celtic – Fergus was saving Celtic

    Dermot Desmond

Desmond, talking to The Celtic View, also revealed how he got together with McCann as Celtic teetered on the brink of going bust.

“It was 1994 when I’d been introduced to the opportunity of investing in Celtic by a friend of mine called Brian Phelan, who connected me with Fergus.

“I looked over the plans he had and he told me they were looking for £4million, but I felt they would need to raise £8m.

“So I said I would invest £4m and underwrite another £4m, so that was really my first financial encounter with Celtic.”

Since then, Desmond has kept a low public profile as far as the Hoops are concerned but remains hugely interested in everything that happens at Parkhead. And no major decisions are taken without his say-so.

He is also close to manager Neil Lennon.

But now, as then, he appreciates exactly what the support means to Celtic, and added: “The football club is about the fans.

“It’s a merger between all the players, the coaches, the executives and the fans – and we are all unified in our love of Celtic.

“I think a football club without fans is not a football club.”

The trouble with your post. Mr 67 supports the board.

  6. TD67

No offence Tony….but I don’t believe a word of it.

Because what we have now…is exactly that,…”Football without the fans…thousands of them.

They spout the same old crap….because they think that’s what the fans want to hear…but its all crap.

I ask you….how could any Celtic supporter allow the team to go backwards by appointing a rookie manager to save money.

The decline is obvious….surely you see it.

Is winning the SPL when there should be no realistic competition …getting humped around Europe and selling our best players every year success ??

It seems to be so for some

As for winning the SPL ….you’d like to think with our squad that we should be ok

Potential we’ve given Aberdeen a five point start…we have one goalscorer and seem to concede at least two goals every game

We won the league last season owing largely to a good defence and good goalkeeping

Our defence is atrocious right now and Gordon not up to last seasons impressive displays

Aberdeen are better …..better enough to win the SPL …hopefully not …but we are worse …..the gap ( if there is one ) has narrowed

Get your cash on us on Thursday, the EL helped moulded our Lenny and I have a feeling Ronny will get us to the knockout stages AGAIN

i like your confidence Gerry, but i cant see us winning an away game in the EL.

In fact i think we’ll struggle at home V the 3 of them.

I’ve no doubt Peter Lawwell is a dyed in the wool Celtic fan.

As for The Great Desmondo I’d want more evidence than you’ve provided before I’m convinced.

How many games does he get to in a season?

  12. September/October will be watershed MONTHS’ – I don’t expect anything good in the EL, and I expect the management team to go.

More worrying is the real prospect that Peter Lawwell is now being pursued by two EPL clubs – with his place at the top table in Europe, he is as highly regarded in the upper echelons of English football, as he is vilified on here.’

I would then seriously worry about our club – as recent figures show, we need, with our current set-up, a turnover of circa £60 million to break even, without CL group ‘-participation and player sales.

Season tickets and the small amount of prize-money, accounts for around £20 million (and falling). The balance of income (last year t/o £51 million) £31 million, comes from deals, sponsorship and initiatives, driven and overseen by our CEO, Peter Lawwell.

Without player-sales profit contrbution last year our turnover would have been £44 million – it seems to me that going forward we can only bank on £40 million, as disaffection sets in and ST sales keep falling, year after year.

This kind of income will have a dramatic effect on the kind of wage-bill we can carry – my guess is at least a 33% reduction.

Going back to the September/October watershed – with Scotland certain to exit the Euros after failing to defeat Poland – would/could GMS be enticed back to CP.

Our present squad of players have shown a naivety and frailty over the past six months, basically from the ICT game at Champ – this seems to be getting worse and three questions need answered:

    1) Has Ronny lost the dressing-room?

    2) Is the job too big for him?

    3) Why are players under-performing?

On 1&2, I say yes – on 3, I wonder, with so many of our players in the International squad, are they’re heads being ‘turned’ by tales of massive wages in England, from other squad members.

Finally, and ironically, next year may prove a positive, albeit temporary, distraction from our ongoing woes – the return of a rejuvenated Sevco is bound to have a galvanizing effect, and of course, will add in the VVD money to our accounts – just the kind of situation that would attract a new manager.

Peter Lawwell leaving would be a bigger body-blow than the cumulative departures of Victor, Fraser, Hooper, Ki and VVD – perhaps ‘a la Corbyn’, or Indy – factions within our support would attempt to commit hari-kiri, and campaign for someone like Findlay as our CEO – now that would really be ARMAGEDDON!

  14. *THE KING VIC 67* on

I re-ran P67’s interview with celtic tv yesterday (actually watch it often).

P67 made good points at that period, such as we need to keep ploughing our hard earned dosh in to celtic in the wake of *Rangers’ death.( excuse the paraphrasing).

Like many others on here, I have followed that guidance, however I have now reached the point in which I think I’m so close to falling out of love with Celtic.

As a club we have had darker days but for me, this is not the Celtic I know it want and is every but as bad only disguised due to the mankys not challenging us.

It’s all down to this “strategy”. Peter Lawwell was so arrogant in his midweek interview that I have now reached the cross roads as to continue to fund this out of blind faith or stop and proactively challenge everything that is wrong within the club.

  15. Yeah….give us legends on massive billboards around the stadium….but at the same time try to tell us that Ciftci was our top target…..really!

“The problem with having people like DD and PL running Celtic…is that they like to hide when things are going badly.

But when things are good…there they are, basking in the warmth generated by the supporters, milking it for all its worth. ”

Remind us of instances when you saw DD and PL milking it for all it’s worth please as PL has a fairly low key profile most if the time apart from his bonus and heated driveway getting mentioned ad nauseum every time we lose, and I find DD in particular the exact opposite and doesn’t milk it at all.

The target of your ire should be UEFA and the fact that we, as Champions of our league, still have to run the gauntlet of 3 pre-season qualification rounds, when players just back form their holidays, and others just signed up.

Am I chuffed we lost yesterday, nope, but if the league is more competitive this year can’t say I’m exactly suicidal over it either.

Have you canvassed all the reasons/opinions of Celtic fans who have gave up season tickets in the last 10 years ? you post with authority on why they no longer attend ? can you justify that ?

If you average out attendances over the last 40/50 years, are we at present with 40,000 season ticket holders above or below a reasonable support average in the time frame i have outlined above

  18. You show them in print who and what the man said and is, and still they want more proof? Yer having a laugh, I don’t do playground games, but I’ll tell you this for a fact, there are 3 groups of people who don’t like PL, AND DD, and they are, The Celtic Trust, The Scottish Media, And Huns, I know where my goes on, and NO ONE in here will tell me any different, NO ONE.

  19. I’d urge the board to dismiss what anyone says on this site, or any other Celtic site due to hun infiltration.

Anyone could post a few positive comments then start agitating to get rid of the CEO, coach, players etc.

Some kind of hunnish destabilising fantasy.

Sorry. there really is no major problem in spotting strikers.

The real problem is in acknowledging that the acquisition of quality strikers requires the will power to put hands into fairly deep pockets..

  22. I sill don’t feel any better about our performance yesterday.

The way I see one team wanted to win more and they did. That’s what’s making me uncomfortable.

Our defence is shambolic under pressure.

There was a time when you would say not one Aberdeen player would get in our team. Now, although we have the better players, in the vast majority of positions, the gap is clearly closing.

Our downsizing is catching up with us. There a few bloggers on here, and of course Paul, who are very close to the furnace at the club. I would be happy in one of you would/ could come on and say there is no rift in the changing room, because my eyes tell me there is and I would be happy to be wrong.
