Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

Directors’ Box Hospitality for 4, this Saturday, 5 August

Those great people at Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have offered us an incredible hospitality package for Flag Day at Celtic Park on Saturday, to raise funds for Mary’s Meals. Many thanks and good luck!

The Kano Foundation

The Kano Foundation are holding their annual bucket collection at outside Celtic Park before kick off on Saturday. This is a once-a-year event for TKF, who do tremendous work, brining young people into the Celtic family.

    Chill Ultra

I read through all of your post, and that’s not something i can say about all the ‘long’ish’ posts on here – just don’t have the time, unfortunately. Well-written, and well-considered, and worth reading if only to see things from a different perspective.

I don’t know Auldheid. Have never met him ( that I’m aware of ) and have only had brief contact with some of the other Res. 12 guys – all of whom i believe to be very genuine, honest guys, and unquestionably passionate about our Football Club.

No matter what you think of Auldheid’s motives ( and your opinion is as valid as any others here ) you surely can’t question that he wants what is best for Celtic, and Celtic fans, and has invested hours and hours and hours of his time in trying to get the club ( and Scottish Football as a whole ) to a better place than it finds itself now.

I know for a fact that most football fans in Scotland have little or no real idea about the train (crash) of events embarked on by SFA/SFL/SPFL and the various entities emanating from Ibrox which have led us to where we are now. Most of what they know comes from reading what are laughingly referred to as ‘newspapers’ and we know who controls that narrative. They are largely ignorant of the circumstances around ‘Rangers’ liquidation , LNS and Res 12.

The same can’t be said of a great number of Celtic fans especially those who read and contribute to this blog on a regular basis. In comparison to most fans of other clubs, thanks to Auldheid, BRTH ( who for me can do no wrong ) James Forrest, Paul, and many others, too numerous to mention, we are better informed about why we are in the situation we are.

Without these guys – Auldheid in particular, since he seems to be the one with the target on his back – we’d be like all the other ‘move-on’ lemmings, and we’d all be moving back to the back of the bus.

I think they deserve as much praise and support as we can give them, after what they’ve given us.

You think differently, and i don’t have a problem with that, and you obviously believe that he’s trying to lead (or mislead) people in the wrong direction, but i do think your criticism is unjustified…..for what that’s worth.

  2. CQN Saturday Naps Competition 2017-18

Lads, for all the part-time punters out there… our CQN Naps competition should hopefully resume on Saturday (5th August). Will Gweedore Celt be around to defend his title?

In order to confirm your entry, please send me an e-mail stating your CQN username to : fleagle29@ymail.com.

    RULES are relatively simple :

    a) On each Saturday, log onto the last page of the previous CQN article.

    b) Post ONE ‘nap’ selection from any major Saturday international race meeting (e.g. UK, Ireland, France, UAE).

    c) If your initial selection is a Non-Runner, you may select an alternative Saturday runner.

    d) If your NAP wins, you will “win” the hypothetical profit from a £1 stake @ Starting Prices (SP).

e.g. your selection wins at 1/2, your hypothetical profit is +£ 0.50

e.g. your selection wins at 9/4, your hypothetical profit is +£ 2.25

e.g. your selection wins at 7/2, your hypothetical profit is +£ 3.50

e.g. your selection wins at 8/1, your hypothetical profit is +£ 8.00

    e) If your nap loses or if you fail to post a selection, you “lose” your £1 hypothetical stake (-£1).

    f) If anyone wants to join the competition after Week 1 (e.g. in Week 3), then you will be allocated two losers, and would start the competition from (-£2).

    g) Our CQN Naps Champion Tipster will be the CQN punter who shows the greatest overall profit during the season.

Last season, Gweedore Celt was our CQN Naps champion, with an impressive +£27.00 profit.

    Happy punting everyone…

    :)

    Cheers, fleagle1888

Excellent riposte .Agreed with every word.My own thoughts are that ‘Enough is Enough’.The Board at Celtic MUST make a really strong statement condemning the inactions of the SFA and SPFL. I sincerely hope Celtic don’t misread the feeling of our fans. HH.
